Omri Casspi
What are your thoughts on him almost through his 2nd year? What kind of player do you see him becoming? I think he has been a disappointment overall. He has had all the opportunity in the world this season with no other real SF option on the team (with Cisco being out and Donte being Donte). Offensively he has no playmaking ability whatsoever, he can't go off the dribble or one on one as it probably ends in a turnover or a low % shot,he's a bad passer and cant run a fast break to save his life. On the plus side he is a pretty good spot up shooter, and his rebounding is impressive. Defensively I'd say he's about average. He has a good motor and plays with high energy. ATM I dont see him as a starter on a contender but more of a high energy/spark off the bench.

In all fairness to him, he was a 23rd pick, so I don't think it's right to have such high expectations. To me, he's been fine. He's a great three point shooter. He can finish the fast-break with a dunk regularly. He's high energy on defense and is terrific with hustle plays. I don't see him as a future all-star or anything like that, but I think he has the potential to have a long career in this league. He has room for improvement in a lot of areas, but so do a lot of second year guys. I think it's too soon to judge his ceiling. Too many guys have broken out in year 3.

Re: Omri Casspi
I think he's the type of the player who suffers the most from our "do w/e the **** you want" offence.
Cause his handles are bad at this point he preety much relys on everybody else to supply for him and put him in good spots.... if you see in alot of games he can have like 6-7 minute stractchs where he doesn't even touch the ball unless he rebounds it or someone actually pull his head up and see him open(and he's open ALOT)
It all comes down to "Can he improove his handle".. thats the key - cause if he can it he's gonna be twice the player he is right now... and I have faith in him and believe he will work and improove it to a good enough level.
If he stays like this as far as his dribbling and ball handling goes he won't be anything major in this league.. like you said a spark off the bench at best.
But I think that we're not using him AT ALL, alot due to the fact that our team flat out sucks and everyone looks to get his.. when we had Sergio Rodrigues for example last year and also whenever Pooh is on the floor you can see the real Omri comming back to life... if we get a better coach/offence with real off the ball movement through screens and ball movement - along with a true point guard whos willing and looking to pass - you'll see a whole diffrent Omri.

Agree with a lot of your points. I think Casspi has potential to be a very effective role player/energy guy. He brings it every night and has a great stroke from 3. His ball handling really is what's keeping him from being a better scoring threat (well, that and people only look to him to bail them out of bad takes *coughTYREKEcough*). But again, that's a major problem for a lot of players on this team, and not just Casspi. There's not enough team play sometimes.
Casspi's defense has also improved greatly. He still struggles against some of the stronger SFs in the league, but if he can build a little more mass, it'll help him from getting pushed around so much.
BUT, did you see that ALLEY OOP ONE HANDED THROW DOWN tonight?!!?! Made Bill Walton proud, lol.

how about his left handed dunk in traffic last night too.
i think Omri is a spark plug kind of player who can do a little of everything but isn't consistent enough or good enough to be THE SF moving forward. Its too important of a position. He would be great as a bench player that sees 20 min a game. The Kings are gonna be mediocre until they upgrade the positions where they are mediocre. We need an upgrade at PF, SF, and PG because Beno, JT, Omri, are unbelievably perfect bench players. They have weakness' that allow them to be starters on a bad team but could never be starters on playoff or championship teams.
Cousins/Dally
?/JT
?/Omri
Evans/Thornton
?/Beno
Kings better get aggressive this offseason and fill some of those holes. Maybe trade for Josh Smith or Danny Granger. Maybe sign David West or Wilson Chandler in FA. Or draft Derrick Williams or Kyrie Irving if we get the chance. If we lose out on a top 3 pick we should trade the pick and maybe JT or Omri and go after Smith or Granger. We need another 20 point a game player to take some pressure off Tyreke and DMC. Right now every team knows they are our main options on offense and thats why its easy to gameplan for us.
Option 1: top 3 pick grab Irving, Williams, TJones. Then sign David West.
Option 2: trade pick plus Dally (sign and trade) + Omri for Josh Smith OR trade pick plus JT + Omri for Danny Granger.
Option 3 (most likely): draft pick 5 or 6, do nothing in FA. Win 30 games maybe in 2011-2012
