DeMarcus Cousins or Joakim Noah

Post#1 » by Bac2Basics » Tue Mar 15, 2011 6:33 am

Sacramento just missed on getting Noah, ending up Spencer Hawes in that year's draft a couple years ago.
Had Sacramento actually drafted Noah, it's unlikely that the Kings would have drafted Cousins.

So, knowing what we know so far, which would you rather have, Noah or Cousins?

Pretty much.

Noah is a proven 12/12 type of guy that can bust his ass off on the court. Not a star player by a long shot but a very valuable piece to have for a contending team. Cousins has the "pizazz" aura around him that indicates he will be a dominant figure in the near future.

I really, really like Noah and WANTED him back in the 07 draft but I rather have Cousins. Cousins is the type of player that can seriously elevate a team's success in a blink of an eye. Franchise-talent for sure.

In terms of ceiling Cousins is above just about every other young big in the league. If we needed a player like Noah and he was literally just the absolute perfect fit and the last piece in order to win a title maybe, but as is and will most likely ever be? Heck nah.

Cousins is already the better scorer and assist-maker by far. Unlike Noah, he can be the focal point of an offense and be a team's leading scorer and #1 option to run an offense through. No comparison there really. Will he catch up on defense and rebounding? Noah is exceptional at both. I don't know. But I do know that Cousins isn't a bad rebounder or defender and I also know that I've seen a lot of improvement in both areas this year. I'm not trying to downplay Noah at all. He deserves his contract and status as an elite rebounding and defensive big. But Cousins, and any potential franchise-player big, is my choice over Noah any day of the week.

On the other hand, I resist the premise of the OP. We play Cousins at 4 next to Dalembert. Cousins was BPA when we picked. We would have still selected him. Cousins+Noah would be unstoppable. But if what you meant to say was if we drafted Noah, we would have been better enough in the W column to the effect that we wouldn't have picked high enough to get Cousins, ok.

I like all the points that have been made so far and dont find a need to repeat them..

In an attempt to bring somethin new to the convo, here are a few things that make you say hmmmm.

*Noah was 22 years old when he was drafted in 2007, Cousins was 19.

*Noah's rookie year he avg 20mpg and only produced around 5.6 rpg, 6.5 ppg, and .86bpg.... At 20 Cousins produced a much more productive rookie season.

*Cousins is avg the same amount of blocks in his rookie season as Noah did (.86) Although i dont see DMC developing into a blocking C.

*It wasnt until last season Noah averaged a double-double.. Last season he was 24/25 yrs old.

*Cousins in his rookie season is avg more PPG (14.30) than Noah has in any given season in his 5 yrs (highest is this season at 12.51)

NOW IN THE BATTLE OF THIS YRS SEASON HIGHS - Rookie Cousins(20yr) vs. 5 yr vet Noah(26yr)

PPG - Cousins 29.................Noah 26
FGM- Cousins 11 (x4)............Noah 8 (x3)
3fgm - Cousins 1 (x3)............Noah 0
FTM- Cousins 13..................Noah 10
FTA- Cousins 18...................Noah 12
Off. R- Cousins 6 (x3)...........Noah 9 (x2)
Def. R- Cousins 12 (x2).........Noah 15
Reb- Cousins 18..................Noah 19 (x2)
Ast- Cousins 7 (x2)...............Noah 6
Stl- Cousins 3 (x5)................Noah 4 (x2)
Blk- Cousins 4......................Noah 6

Demarcus is just so much more talented. if he can keep his emotions in check(very questionable), he will be very very special.

It just simply would boil down to fit. Cousins is so far beyond Noah in the potential department that it's not even close. Noah is an upper echelon role player with, under the right circumstances, could be the type to help tip a loaded team over the edge. Cousins is the type of talent you build around at a franchise level. Obviously all depends on Cousins at this stage, but he's got the tools.

To me, to choose between Cousins and Howard is a hard choice.

What could have been...

If Hawes had the work ethic and the passion for the game, this guy would have been great. Imagine a more offensively talented-Bogut.

I tend to disagree with that statement. I think if we had Noah, we would definitely have drafted Cousins but would not have traded for Dalembert.

My reasoning is that with Cousins, a perfect type of player that you want to play next to him is precisely what Noah is. A fully sized PF/C type that is an energy guy, a great rebounder, a good shot blocker and a great defender.

Noah is a 12/12/2 type guy who is the ultimate role playing big. You still need a low post scoring punch next to him, hence why they went out and got Boozer.

If I had to pick one, I go with Cousins because guys of his skill and size are VERY rare to find. He is a legitimate 20+/12+/3+assist per game big. You can run your offense through him. You can post him up, you can play him from the elbow and make him pick his spots from there, whether to drive, shoot or pass. Those types of players are ridiculously hard to find!!

Noah is a great player in his own right, but he is not they type of big that you give him the ball and let him go to work. He is an uber role playing all-star. Its ironic that you are comparing the two because IMHO, they are a PERFECT front court to have. With Cousins, you get offense (low post and mid range shooting), passing, rebounding and toughness. With Noah you get rebounding, energy, defence, shotblocking and he is good passer himself. Noah can play PF and/or C and Cousins can do the same but the difference is that Cousins in general cannot guard PFs where as Noah can.

It would be a dream come true if we could trot out a front line twin towers in Cousins and Noah as that front court would terrorize opposition for years to come.

DMC no question. Noah's perfect for Chicago right now, but what they needed and what we needed were two completely different things.

Bulls fan here coming in peace. I've watched a few SAC games this season and am actually excited for the Bulls/Kings game on Monday (I'm going).

As someone stated above, both players are equally as valuable on their respective teams. I'm not sure Jo would mesh well in SAC, and don't think DMC would be well received in Chicago.

I think both a tremendous talents. DMC is by far a greater offensive force, while Jo is by far a greater defensive force. Personally, I believe the game extends beyond pure talent.

While both are emotional players, Jo uses his emotion to influence his game a little bit better than DMC. DMC is so damn immature, thus more of a risk.

Wish the Kings the best. You guys are a few key role players away from seriously competing.
I'm a Chicagoan, til Chicago wins. Til we blow like Chicago windddddd...
