Per Wiretap, Nets unlikely to offer extension to Brook Lopez. Their hopes as has been stated in the media is to get Dwight Howard via trade or free agency. Lopez is only 23 and an excellent lost post scorer. If he were available to the Kings via trade or free agency after this or next season would he be a good fit? Play him at center and Cousins at PF. Lopez is a much better scorer than Cuz. Tell Cuz that his primary focus would be to lead the NBA in rebounding and play defense. I think Lopez is the caliber player the Kings could obtain and not completely break the bank. He's from California, played at Stanford, and seems to have the personality that would fit smaller market Sacramento.
Hypothetical 2012-13 Lineup
PG Andre Miller(FA)/Isaiah Thomas/Jimmer Fredette
SG Tyreke Evans/Marcus Thornton(6th man)/Francisco Garcia
SF Ryan Anderson(FA) or Gerald Wallace(FA)/Donte Greene(QO)/Tyler Honeycutt
PF DeMarcus Cousins/Chuck Hayes/Thomas Robinson(Draft)
C Brook Lopez(FA)/Jason Thompson(QO)/Hassan Whiteside
The free agents I listed as possibilities have some sort of ties to the area (the Hayes factor).
I'd look to move Salmons via amnesty or trade, Outlaw, and Hickson.

I'm all for it! I love centers who can dominate the paint and add him with the DeMarcus and you've got yourself a top 5 front line. Although I hate Stanford(WSU guy) I'd love to get him.

I like Brook but I think Cousins needs a defensive big next to him so he doesn't get in foul trouble.

It's certainly an interesting idea. Worth thinking about if we can make it happen.

Re: Thoughts on Brook Lopez?
Brook Lopez isn't really a paint domination type, however he is a finesse, perimeter oriented skilled big who in theory would be a nice fit next to Cousins. However is limited athletic ability next to Cousins is exactly one of the reasons they passed on DMC to begin with. He's too used to being a major part of his teams offensive scheme as well. If they traded Evans and maybe even Marcus and stocked up on role playing defending shooters, maybe. Otherwise, no way, would just completely make some of the issues you see now worse.

I have three things to say:
1. I dislike threads that start with Hypothetical lineups that involve 3 or more FA additions (unrealistic)
2. Amnesty on Salmons should be a last resort. A trade for average players would be more appealing. Greater chance we find a role player.
3. I like Brook Lopez and believe he would fit nicely next to Big Cuz. To trade for him however would probably cost Thornton or Evans. Is it worth it? Also I Highly doubt he signs in Sac as a FA

Re: Thoughts on Brook Lopez?
Brook Lopez would be an excellent fit next to Cousins. What Lopez lacks in rebounding skills, Cousins more than makes up for. And they seem like they'd be great complements on offense. Lopez is also an above average shot-blocker, so our interior D will be solid with him on board. I'd definitely put in a high bid for him this offseason.
But
I like how you just threw in there that we're getting Ryan Anderson. He will be very, very expensive. If we're serious about extending Evans and Cousins when the time comes, I really doubt we can afford Lopez and Anderson in the offseason. It's one or the other (yes if I said that this time last year, people would think I was crazy, but that's the reality of things at the present). And I'm inclined to go with Lopez. Anderson can shoot; but can he shoot when his defender is actually guarding him instead of helping on Howard? Don't know, don't care to find out at his price.
If Andre Miller can have that J-Kidd/Nash longevity, I'm all for pursuing him. I just haven't paid enough attention to the guy lately to know whether he has that kind of gas left in his tank, being 35 (J-Kidd is 38, Nash is 37). If he can give us 3-4 good years, why not. We need a vet around.

1st the odds of us signing 3-4 free agents in 1 year is very , very slim . I would rule that out right now .As far as trades go it is very doubtful we aquire K.LOVE or D12 though of the 2 I see D12 as being more possible though that would be a massive gamble though it could be worth it if we could unload a bad contract or 2 incase he walks though again I doubt it .
The 2 players I believe are the most realistic trade targets for us while having a chance to trade either Salmons is :
Clippers trade M.Williams has this year + a player option for next season for Salmons both make 8.5 million salaries work out even
or
Jazz trade D.Harris makes 9,319 million this year & 8.500 million next season for Salmons 8.500 million this season though in this case we take on an additional 819,000 it may be worh adding that salary this season to save us a couple of years in terms of Salmons contract .

Re: Thoughts on Brook Lopez?
Simply stating you won't offer an extension to player A or player B is simply code for 'we're keeping our options open. You see the Kings doing this with Thompson currently. You're seeing the Nets preserving cap space for Dwight. They'll match nearly any offer for Brook. I have no doubt.

Would like him as a FA pickup but wouldn't give up much in trade for him.
