This is the one issue I have. Thomas Robinson and James Johnson are now very similar. James Johnson has some CWebb to his game too and is able to create for others and pass, but how many balls does this team expect top play with.

James Johnson is still far and away going to improve this team defensively on the perimeter and even inside with his shotblocking.

Figures Petrie would make a move where I really like the player, but how about making some room for him and the others now?

This is an entire situation that needs a solution. Filling the SF spot would have been logical since there were so many options this summer. Hope this doesn't mean no going after Rush.

Just a thought, but this could be a deal that leads to another deal and it starts making sense. Oops, brief moment of optimism, sorry.

No way are we done, unless potential trades fall apart.

We have Garcia's expiring and Chuck to shop around, won't get much for them, but I think one or both on the way out.

Maybe in some ways, Fields is a more natural fit as a floor spreader. Johnson has some point F skills, but once again, this team is chalk full of that now, especially with TRob.

No issues at all with this trade provided we make another move to get some shooting and either Garcia or Salmons out.

2.8 single year contract, let's see what else we do in free agency.

That's a pretty big "if" there. With this trade, we're left with about $3M and change left before we hit our cap. Can't see us doing much more than maybe signing some cheap veteran to play back up PG. No way we add T-Will now, unless we amnesty Salmons or (for some reason) Garcia.

And that's the problem with the timing of this move, all that space is GONE. I mean, it was pretty much gone after that JT overpay job but it's really gone now.

He's also the only player on our team that can shoot the goddamn 3 pointer. Take Tyreke Evans off of his pedestal and look at his actual production the last two years. Thornton has helped us win more games in his 1.5 years with us than Tyreke has in his 3. It goes Cousins, then Thornton, then Thomas Robinson right now.

Thornton doesn't have the hype because he wasn't our pick, he was a second rounder, and doesn't get national media attention...but he is damn effective and we should appreciate having him on our team. As I said before--his floor is Jason Terry and he will continue to improve.

Kings fans really need to give up on their wet dream about Tyreke being a future superstar. Some players just don't pan out, and he's looking like one of them. Mike Miller won ROY and he turned out to be a career role player. OJ Mayo was hyped and averaged 18 his rookie year, then regressed and was relegated to the bench.

You and I couldn't agree more on that. I doubt Petrie and the Kings think the way these fans do. Petrie has been known to nab that Peja like deal and he did with Marcus. If this is still the crafty, intelligent Petrie, you see Evans moved in a package for something that takes this entire situation and brings it in line to where it makes sense. If Petrie follows suit with his recent moves, Evans gets a max deal and they trade Thornton for Lamar Odom.

yeah makes the JT move even more undesirable, we should have signed Darnell Jackson to a 1 year, made this move and try to do some more work.

Sure, he didn't shoot the ball well, but he made up for it on the other end by blocking shots, diving for loose balls, and playing really good defense. For a 2nd rounder? You should be happy.

And this year was his first full season in getting minutes and because of that I THINK he can get better and being a black belt and all, he has the discipline to get better. Right after a few weeks of the last game of the 2010-2011 season, he immediately went on some program, lost a lot of weight, and looked noticeably slim at the season ending interviews.

I'm not saying you got an all star. Just saying he will be a valuable piece on the team. He can occasionally handle the basketball also. When Jose was out in 2010-2011, our offense looked completely different with Bayless and Johnson sharing ball handling responsibilities, and the offense was very good.

The only reason the Raptors got rid of him was because the GM has to free up as much opportunity as he can for Landry Fields, who he mistakenly overpaid by 10-11 million dollars.

Let me give you some back story. This team is chalk full of a players wanting to handle the ball and create shots. You can't even comment until you've seen a team play like the Kings did early last year. They literally struggled to get 16 assists on a good night. It is/was very frustrating when you can see all the players and their ability to create for others, but you can't have a team full of those players, you need to have someone to spread the floor too.

Hey, the Kings were there themselves for a long time. I don't know if it broke something in Petries head and he developed some kind of complex to where now he can't live without a team full of those players or something, but you haven't seen ugly ball like the kind of ball you play with no shooters and nothing but point F's. :-?

The Sacramento Kings are what killed JJ Hicksons career. 'nuff said

raps fan here, y'all got a head case, but one who will have your star player's back, evans or cousins, no prob, but he is a certified bonehead with a streak of both diva and ufc in him

he was a decent fantasy pickup last season for blocks and steals, a light version of gerald wallace, shawn marion, josh smith

only good side for the raps is 1st, more minutes for our wings, and 2nd, a non guaranteed early 2nd round pick (attractive under the new cba, i think), while we originally traded miami's late 1st for him, dunno who that was, maybe cole?

bottom line, raps fans feel abused, so congrats kings!

He's a good role player and there's no doubt that we got good value for him, but we already have several players that play exactly like he does. We couldn't play Evans at SF because we needed a SF to spread the floor with his jump/3PT shot. Now we just have a taller Tyreke Evans at the SF spot.

Honestly, anyone that thought AK was a great fit, shouldn't be complaining about JJ. Similar in some ways. Both can run point, both block shots, both aren't great shooters, etc. etc.

This is a very polarizing trade for Raptor fans, mainly because Johnson is a bi-polar player. He can do some things well, even spectacularly well. He's a tremendous recovery and weak-side shot blocker. But what he doesn't do well, he does egregiously poorly. His shot mechanics, shot selection and basketball IQ are below sea level. If he was our best small forward last year, it was because our SF situation was actually worse than yours - lamentable, pathetic.

As one of our most experienced and intelligent posters said on Twitter:

@jmaltman
@WolstatSun I think they have an idiot quota. They dropped Whiteside today for the incoming Brooks, with JJ coming in to take the idiot spot

or as one of our beat writers said:

Ryan Wolstat ‏@WolstatSun
Last thing about Sac because I feel bad for their awesome fans, but the organization does know there is only one ball right?

Pretty good defender. Solid rebounder and tough down low. Can't fault this move for a 2nd rounder.

Well the Kings biggest problem was defense and JJ will definitely help that. Hopefully he doesn't demand many shots. We needed someone to defend the elite SF/SG.

Well if he was already complaining about his role in Toronto, this is already a shaky start.

I don't know about defending SG's. He's a legit combo forward in the vein of Shawn Marion, but more size. If I drafted him, I would have played him and would play him at PF for a good deal of his minutes. Similar to Donte in that sense but Johnson has way more tools as a passer.

For a 6'9 tweener PF/SF JJ is a good ball handler and can play a point forward role. He is a tremendous shot blocker, decent rebounder and good hustle player. The only really big issue with him is trying to shoot out of slumps when he can't shoot with any consistency in the first place. It is not mechanics it is poor shot selection. If he loses the long ball and picks up a shorter range game he will be a great addition. If he keeps trying for the long ball he'll out of the league in short order.

So to sum it up.

He does everything we don't necessarily need.
While he does nothing that we desperately need.
