Yeah, but OKC, SAS, LAL before and after the trade are still all below the Heat.
I think Presti is acknowledging that and setting up his roster to peak 2-3 years from now when the Heat could start to show some additional weakness due to age.

I think OKC just realized that after Harden signs that deal it would become rather clear fairly quickly that while he's a very solid player, he's not a max talent. When you overestimated the value of others on your team it cuts into what you can do. I doubt they ever had any intentions of re-signing him, I mean, 6 million over the life of the deal crushed it? I don't think so, just putting the bait out there for other teams and/or hoping he'd back down. We'll get to see what he does as a number 1 option now so whether or not he will be a max player will be determined.
Just hate to see this kind of stuff as Reke enters his final year. If this team signs Tyreke to the max after unloading that deal to JT I don't know what is going on. The only way it's acceptable is if there is significant interest in him at that price around the league, this team is well on it's way to title contention, or he becomes more of an all around player.
As for the deal, kudos to the Thunder. That's how you do it. I remember when Geoff Petrie used to make those kind of cut and dry solid return before it's too late kind of moves. The only similarity is that the Thunder have also ignored some of their weakest areas, most notably post scoring. Very, very perimeter oriented team and not enough scoring at the rim when needed.
