Name me one GM that would do a better job than Petrie that would be WILLING to come to Sacramento.

This isn't really an issue. There a lot of good basketball minds out there, and only 30 GM positions in the NBA (and most of them are taken). Hell, many realgmers would have done a better job than Petrie in recent years.

My concern would more so be the Maloofs having a clue who they should hire.

Petrie isn't the problem. Look at Payroll. All the teams who spend big are winning. The teams in the bottom half of spending are mostly lottery teams. Napier pointed to teams like OKC, LAC, and MEM who have turned things around recently. They are all in the upper half of payroll spending. The Kings are in the bottom 5.

If we're like the Warriors who are in the upper half AND are not winning (but they are 7-5 right now) I would cry foul.

This is simply not looking at the whole picture. We're up to the cap. We can't spend any more right now. Other teams spend more because they're acquiring players worth re-signing to large deals. We're not right now (in part because the guys we would re-sign like that aren't old enough to be re-signed yet).

The problem is how the money is being spent. It's using up all of our cap room middling deals to guys like Cicso, Outlaw, Hayes, Salmons, JT, etc. Combined, those guys make more than anyone in the league. The problem is that combined, they amount to nothing if there isn't a star on your team for them to play with.

Yeah, people can't go with the low payroll this year. It may have worked for previous seasons, but the Maloofs stuck to their word this year and we spent pretty much everything we had. Petrie's problem has always been giving out the big deal to the average role player (Mikki Moore, anyone?) and he did it again with Hayes and by trading for Salmons.

Speaking of our money problems, all of those years of saving the $$$ was wasted in one off season, and I don't think we'll have a decent cap to spend for another 2 years now. Ugh.

Now is the time when you want to start signing players like Hayes, Thompson, Brooks, etc. Mikki Moore would be an awesome pick up now, not back when they did. Role players will get exposed when they are asked to be more than they are. This team does have talent worth putting role players around. The tipping point is using two top 10 picks on a Jimmer Fredette and a Thomas Robinson and still keeping some of those other pieces around or going out and signing other players that fill that same role. Players drafted that high aren't so cheap when you've got so many other players also hovering around or over MLE status and you still don't have a team that compliments eachother. All it takes is 1 person too many to sink the boat. This is simply a case of spending money in the wrong places. This deadline is huge for Petrie but he went out this summer and used up valuable cap space that could have been used to help facilitate a trade. That puts him behind the 8 ball already most likely.

With Chuck under contract I thought they should have either overpaid JT on a shorter deal like 2 years or went with a cheapie for the minimum if they could better spend the money.

JT's contract was way too long.

The good news is we have several trade able players, Just have to be careful or lucky on what we get in return.

We really don't right now. Tyreke and Demarcus could theoretically become that, but as of now, neither is that kind of talent, and that's a big part of the problem. Tyreke is closed off way too much from his drives because of his lack of an outside shot, and Demarcus, while skilled enough, still makes horrible, impulsive decisions all the time. There are things the team could do better, but until Demarcus becomes a smarter player, he won't be that talent you can build a team around.

How do you lump like six random guys and say "combined they more than anyone?" The kings haven't been spenders since the Bonzi Wells days. Payroll evolves and the Kings chose to lower theirs years ago.

What? Most of those 80s and 90s teams sucked fyi. People stopped coming when the Maloofs made it clear that they wanted out of Sacramento.

The Kings team from the 80s - mid-90s were bad. What are you talking about?

So yeeeah, lets overlook the fact that the people of Sacramento sold out Arco 21 out of 27 years since the Kings arrival.

I'm pretty sure these clowns are to blame for that. Worst owners in the NBA. Nobody wants to support owners who pull out of arena deals and are constantly in negotiations for relocation with other cities. The past few years all we've been doing is supporting a below .500 team -- at least for me any ways -- I became a die hard kings fan in 2004-5. I was too young, or not as interested as I am now, to watch them at their peak during the glory days. Screw my life.

Edit: For the record, I still support the team. I wear my Kings gear practically every day. I watch their games in agony, too. However, being a Kings fan hasn't been the same, with a winning or losing record, ever since the Maloofs decided to file for relocation.

It's simple; everyone is fed up with the Maloofs!!!! I know everyone wants a winner but these asses don't deserve a winner!!!! So that's karma right?

As far as the coach; he has to wake up and see what's happening, pull back from Cousins. He's not ready for the heavy burden and by the way Mr. Ray, what is going on? You were specifically brought here to help Cousins but I see no type low post game at all. All I see is a 7 footer playing like a wing. It is time to see if Reke can handle more of a leadership role. Cut the minutes back and start to define roles; James Johnson is a defensive specialist right now nothing more, you have no choice but to give Garcia minutes due to the fact he is probably your best spot up shooter at the wing or else make a trade; maybe you can move one of the 3 Gs you don't have enough minutes for. Brooks & Fredette can handle but should handle less frequently as they should play off of Reke due to the fact they both have the capability to spot up and by the way Fredette needs more minutes. I know this is hard but IT should be a energy guy when the team needs energy; he shouldn't have consistent minutes. JT is fine but cut some of his minutes to give the young guy more time especially against the more athletic type 4s. I may be wrong but at least I can make a decision, maybe you should too, Coach Smart.
