Opinion on Donte Greene

Post#1 » by [EverGreen] » Sat Aug 17, 2013 4:13 am

I'm a Celtics fan and as I'm, sure you are all aware we're acquired Donte Greene in a move that is largely cap related.
Everyone, including myself seems to assume that he'll be waived, but I noticed he started games a couple of years back.
I know next to nothing about him, I was just wondering what you opinion if him is, strengths and weakness. Can he still make it in the NBA?

He's a shooter that can't shoot.

He's a decent defensive player though.

High character and seems like a nice guy outside of basketball.

He has the talent to be an NBA player, but I have real doubts about the drive. He actually could be a really good player. He's a very good, pretty fluid athlete at 6' 10", can streak shoot a little when given the opportunity, and has varied from inconsequential to excellent defensively.

I just think he's fine being on a roster and doesn't really care that much about getting better. Nice guy, but no real drive to reach his potential.

Great bench guy who doesn't complain. Also a great athlete and he is labeled as a shooter, but he can't shoot.

He came into the league and looked like he as going to be a very good shooter, but his shot has gotten progressively worse since entering the league. I have always been a big fan and feel that in the right environment he can be a good player. He just needs the right opportunity, I think he makes a better starter than a player off the bench as he doesn't get into rythm quickly.

He was a guy I thought was going to be around for a while on our roster. He has the tools and physical ability. He was pigeon holed in as a power forward and that he definitely is not. He's a wing player that is just tall.

It also seemed to me that when we had him we didn't have that (still don't yet) that system that develops guys. He came out of Syracuse early, and he was just raw. He's a nice kid. I wouldn't say it as he doesn't have the drive (in terms of being lazy) but I will say he was just happy to be there. He was one of my favorite Kings. I liked the Donte Greene show as well.

I hope it works for him in Boston if he gets a chance.
