Kings Hire AECOM To Design Arena

Post#1 » by ICMTM » Tue Aug 27, 2013 12:18 am

"We have assembled the best artists in the world to design and build the new arena," said Kings owner Vivek Ranadive in a press statement. "AECOM has the résumé to design and create the most technologically advanced and fan-centric arena in the world."

See this is why I think this thing is a sure thing. There is way too much momentum and energy put into this by the new owners. Forget what they are saying...they are DOING what they should be doing. We haven't seen this in a decade (owners doing what they should be...)

I'm with ICMTM. Things are humming along very well. Everybody involved is legit and committed. Labor, business, arts, the local/state government and many others are all united on this. Sacramento is unbelievably massive and special opportunity that's unique in California, and that there's no way in hell they're going to let it slip by.

They won't actually be constructing till next year from what I understand. Let's see what happens with the vote.

I really want to believe this is finally over, but way too early for me considering. Back when the Maloofs were minority owners, before they bought out Thomas, a story came out about NBA minority owners talking relocation to Anaheim. This has been like a 15 year saga for me. At least people don't call me a conspiracy theorist now about all this bs the Maloofs put us through now.

But I'll finally rest when the deadline for the vote passes, and construction begins.

Some things to consider:

1. The Maloofs aren't owners
2. The BOG would have been more inclined to approve relocation had the plans in Sacramento not been solid.
3. The new ownership group wants to be here AND wants to make it work.
4. The city government is 7-2 in favor of the plans.
5. There really is not a big opposition to this arena plan.

Yeah, this was known from the beginning. Need to go under the 18 months environmental review process that started, I think this past April.

As for a vote, even if it happens, which I have real doubts about, I'm not afraid of it. I was a little afraid before when they had big money on their side, but now that Hansen's out, and literally no major players in Sac are against this, it's hard to see where the anti-arena people would really get strong funding--which they would need, since they don't have the facts on their side.

Here is the point that most are missing. The previous regime was looking to make money off the building and land the arena was on. The current regime is betting on globalization as their money maker. For globalization to work they need an arena, a team, etc etc. They don't need to squeeze dollars on the arena deal. They don't need insane things like parking revenues or a competition zone around the arena. They just need a fair price and low risk on their investment.

The new regime is betting they can make India Sacramento Kings fans. I still think that Qualcomm/TIBCO will be making NBA branded set top boxes and broadcasting in India. I haven't heard anything of the sort, but it makes me believe that is the bigger opportunity than an arena in Sacramento. Getting a building in Sac is just their entry fee into a new market.

Again a lot of speculation on my part. I just think the end goal of globalization is the big picture. Getting an arena is a part of that big picture for the new ownership group.

Your speculation is spot on ICMTM. They have a vision, and it goes way beyond what anybody else is doing or even thinking about.

Which is why I don't get some of the wait and see attitudes I'm reading.

Logically you're right. But on an emotional level, it's hard not to be wary of anything.
