Im predicting Smart, Gordon, and Randle are sitting there at #8. Smart is a good two way player but how does that impact the IT situation and would that be the last we see of McCallum? Gordon has great athleticism and length but may need time to bulk up. Randle will be a bust IMO but others think his strength will make up for his short comings.
Nothing here screams win now. If the philosophy truly is to compete then trading for a vet would be the best route. My wish list:
Larry Sanders
Brook Lopez
Jrue Holiday
Al Horford
Asik
Miles Plumlee
Some of these guys will command more than the #8 but its time to make a run for an impact player.

You must be out of your mind. We don't have enough to bridge the gap between #8 and these players.

Horford sure call me crazy but the other two could be had for the right package with a third team. Regardless my list isn't based on just obtainable players, it's made up of a combo of rumors and what I'd like to see.Big_Cat wrote:City of Trees wrote:My wish list:

One thing that was clear with NOLA was that (and it's what we know) when Evans is a starter, on the ball, and surrounded by guys who can shoot it and finish (Ryan Anderson, AD) he's all world. I'm not saying they're moving Jrue Holiday, but I am saying the NOLA beat writers, fans, et al can see where moving Holiday for a piece may work?
Just speaking in theory. Lopez and Horford I don't see it.

NOLA did give up a lot to get Holiday, and I can't imagine them giving up on Holiday already.
While I don't think Lopez/Horford/Holiday type talent is anywhere near what we can obtain...I do think we need to realistically understand that the #8 pick most of the time amounts to nothing. Draft picks are only valuable until June 27th. In my mind it's really similar to buying a car, the moment the draft occurs...teams don't value rookies as much as they did when they were still undrafted prospects.
If we want to gamble, knowing odds are against us...then sure. Otherwise...we should just acknowledge what the 8th pick generally amounts to...and be PROACTIVE instead of reactive.

It's almost like expecting your team to lose on purpose so that they have higher percentage points to jump up in the draft is a ridiculous thing to do.
It's because this is a 6 person draft in almost every expert/analysts eyes.
3 games is what separated us from getting a future scrub (8th pick) vs getting guaranteed getting one of the 6.
Lie to yourself all you want. Our 8th pick will follow in the footsteps of Spencer Hawes, Jason Thompson, Jimmer Fredette, Thomas Robinson, and Ben McLemore
Well this is just plain making crap up.
And the fact is we don't know what will fall to us at 8, or what those players will become. Every draft is its own animal. Saying that the difference between 8 and 6 is absolutely a scrub or some kind of star is completely absurd. Nobody here can pretend to have any clue about that.
Not to mention, assuming the two you have rounding out that top 6 are Randle and Smart, I don't see either of those guys being huge star players at the next level--Smart not at all, and Randle won't in a place where Cousins is already taking up the post touches.

I think it's a 7 player draft with tiers. I could see Gordon going higher than some in the 2nd tier though if teams like his potential because I do think his potential is higher than some in the 2nd tier. The question with him is what position does he play and can he reach his potential.
1st tier:
Wiggins
Parker
Embiid
2nd tier:
Vonleh
Exum
Randle
Smart
3rd tier:
Gordon
4th tier:
whoever else
