Okay, so the general concensus is that Jason Terry will get bought out, and I agree, but. . .

What if he decides to play for the Kings next year. I really see the Jet as a player that was really effective about 3 years ago and is just about useless now. That's a big ol' contract to sit at the end of the bench, and I don't think he should, he can come in off the bench for 5-10 minutes depending on the game and get a few points.

My question is this. What other options are there? Does anyone think there's a team that would trade anything we'd want for the JET?

Don't get me wrong, the trade was a good trade because we got Evans and got rid of Thornton's contract. I'm just thinking ahead and trying to see what all of the King's options are on this one.

Don't get me wrong, the trade was a good trade because we got Evans and got rid of Thornton's contract. I'm just thinking ahead and trying to see what all of the King's options are on this one.

For selfish reasons, I'd rather have Sacramento not buy-out Terry, as either way his salary will count against the cap. Buying him out will only mean we need at least an addition $500k to pay for a player to take his roster spot.

Realistically, he will be bought-out in order to save the owners some money.


But either way, his salary counts against our cap and it's unlikely anyone will trade for him unless we either give up an asset or we take back a longer contract.

I look at him right now, and I see $5million in expiring money, and nothing else.

Just easier to move his 5 mil expiring than MT 8+ in a trade. All sorts of options with a 5 mil expiring, a fill in, or if someone is unhappy with higher paid talent for whatever reason, some incentive to move them.

For example

Josh Smith 14 million for 3 more seasons after this.
JT $6,037,500 $6,431,250 $6,825,000

The expiring of Terry would give them financial incentive to only have to pay JT his rate if they were unhappy with Smith.

Not that I'd do that deal for certain but you get the idea.

They better not buy him out! They may need his salary in a trade. They need to tell him to sit tight and let him know that if they don't move him by the deadline they'll buy him out then but at no time before that.

I really liked the class that Petrie brought to the organization, and of course the title run with Vlade and C-Webb, but it sure seems like he was slow to understand the new dynamics, and thanks to the Maloofs, he really left us with some bad contracts. Pete has done an impressive job shedding them. Of course, Landry may haunt him.

Yeah some expiring contracts, and you can grab a potential star if they are not happy where they are at, or the franchise who has them wants to move them. You never know, maybe they like a younger prospect, are not going anywhere and want to rebuild etc.

Is why you want to keep multi year deals to a minimum, save them for legitimate talent.

Even beyond that, his contract could be the difference between a trade going down and even working per the CBA. Imagine if they just bought out John Salmons, that Rudy Gay deal doesn't get done if that happened. The Kings would have had to try and pawn off JT or Landrys deal on them to make it work. That would have killed the deal.

Terry (unless traded) will be on the roster until the trade deadline in February. There is ZERO incentive to buy him out or cut him before then.

I don't know, Felton and Iman is a decent back court defensively and this could make McLemore expendable. Depending on what the Kings did with the other pieces they could then move this deal might be worth it.

I don't know, Felton and Iman is a decent back court defensively and this could make McLemore expendable. Depending on what the Kings did with the other pieces they could then move this deal might be worth it.

Felton ain't decent in any way. Iman's knees are shot. He's not the defensive player he used to be. He's also not really a veteran. I'd still consider him for the bench, but I'd try to look elsewhere first. For JET, he's not bad tho.
