That's a good jump, especially when Summer League is not a flattering place to play for players like him. I know, I have this weird fascination with Papagiannis. The fact that so many see so many flaws in him makes me higher on him, because when he fixes those flaws over time, he's going to surprise a lot of people. It's kind of like rooting for the underdog.

SL isn't really about stats, for me it's about showing what tools are in your tool box. Papa was underwhelming, so was his athleticism. The PER or ppg is irrelevant really.

But his "tools" aren't underwhelming, which is kind of the point. I think we've all been at least mildly impressed with what we see when he demonstrates what he can do when he puts his tools on display. The frustration comes with his inconsistency or inability at times to display these tools. That being said, I think it's fair to cut him some slack. We are talking about a 7'2" "kid" that is just coming to the end of physical growth. It's now a curiosity to see how well he grows as a player into his body.

Fingers crossed.

I'm just going to step in here and give my two cents. I agree with you and I think it's very silly that this trade board along with Twitter has been so down on Papa this offseason. This kid just turned 20 years old. We knew this kid was going to be a project last season and then we finally saw him get minutes. He actually showed some flashes and people weren't that mad at Vlade's selection. Sure, he was drafted early but we got Skal later.

Summer League has passed and all of a sudden, this kid isn't a project anymore and fans are calling for his release. It's pretty ridiculous. We all knew he was a project and I know that this board is better than this. We are being short sighted here. I've even caught myself yelling at the screen when Papa fumbles a rebound. Then I remind myself that he is a project. I know this!

He did not play well in Summer League. I saw that and I understand the frustration. Let's just back up and realize that huge guys like this don't grow on trees. This guy was asked to lose weight this offseason and he did that. Now he has to learn to play at that weight. I believe this 20(!) year old will get much better.

The tools are underwhelming in 2017 when you consider his slow feet.

Fact is Vlade picked a kid at #13 who will be too slow to be an impact starter. He's in the wrong era.

Like with Benny Mac I give all rookies at least two years leeway before I start holding them to a higher standard. Ben showed flashes two and was getting flak for things like defensive lapses that weren't even his fault. I think we all want Papa, and all our players to succeed, I'm just wary of being impatient with development. Whiteside was supposed to be a second round draft bust. After about a year we called the farm on him. How many people lamented the King's "stupidity" for letting him go after his break out season with the Heat?

I don't know. I guess we're all guilty to an extent of over thinking the complexities of player development. Development takes time and the only real answer to it is patience.

Wrong era or not, if he's a top #13 player from the 2016 draft then it was the right call.

I'm personally giving him till he's 21 before I demand he starts buying everyone on this board a beer. That's ethical for more reasons than one.
