When will Giles/Bagley move to the starting lineup?

Post#1 » by LightTheBeam » Thu Jan 17, 2019 12:37 am

I think its pretty clear to anyone watching that Bagley/Giles consistently outplay our starting front court in their limited minutes. I know they are both young, but Bagley was the #2 overall pick for a reason.

Additionally I think Bjelica and WCS would be a better fit with the backups. WCS for 1 wouldnt get abused by the starting center like he does, and for 2 he plays great with Bogdan in the pick and roll so it makes sense. Bjelica would allow more space for Bogdan to operate, and he should also have an easier time guarding backup bigs.

I think it balances our roster and makes us a better team. Do you guys think we will see them starting together this year? Potentially just Bagley? If either, when do you think Joerger makes the change?

Maybe Bagley will this season if Joerger feels enough heat from the FO, but otherwise, neither until next season.

Willie getting killed by opposing centers gets overstated, and wouldn't particularly improve with Bagley right now. Bjelica's spacing is pretty important to the starting 5. They definitely shouldn't be starting together until one of them (probably Giles) gets a real 3 point shot.

Assuming no trades happen, I think we let them get experience, probably let Willie go, and they get their shot next season.

I think Joerger will wait until we are out of PO contention, until then the line-up stays as is barring any trades.
If we slip late in the season and can't get back into the POs then Giles/Bagley need to be let loose with Fox/Buddy/Bogdan.

They both need more size to be sure they don’t get hurt.
They also need to get to the point of establishment and recognition of their talent level that they don’t get the cheap foul calls and can work to the fullest of their talent.

Simon & OG have it collective right. It was a good move by Joerger to keep them out of the starting lineup at the beginning of the season (one that I didn't agree with). And it is good to have them play against the second unit together.

This shouldn't change until we are out of playoff contention and maybe until next year when they have had an off-season to work on their bodies.

But if they don't start together next season - errrr (and of course I know more than a professional coach :D)

Hopefully when Joerger thinks they can handle starting. No need to rush the development process. Bagley is closer to being ready to start and could probably start if needed. Giles is a different story. Wasn't that long ago when he looked really overwhelmed.

They still aren't consistent and pull out the rookie mistakes here and there. When they do the team goes down fast too. Not bad if they weren't concerned about winning, but they are and probably should be since this is the first taste in over a decade.

You guys are crazy if you think we're better off with Bagley/Giles as our starting front court. Yes they're raw and still need developing, but that's exactly why they shouldn't start. They struggle with playing within on our offense, often forcing passes and bumping into our players. Think about how that would affect Fox and Buddy's development. As much as people like to hate on WCS, he's actually been an integral piece of our entire offense.

You guys saw what happened when we had Bagley/Giles in vs. Charlotte. They got abused everywhere. Flashy passes don't make up for everything.

We aren't in a rush to start Bagley. Plus, Bjelica is the better player and he's much better with our starting lineup.
