I'd rather them talk with many, then narrow it down to a few.

Completely disagree. "Talking" is what got us Eric Mussellman (remember, he gave an "amazing" presentation to the Maloofs).

The Kings should have used the last 2+ months to look at bodies of work and talk to a bunch of people about perspective candidates. Narrow that list down to 2 or 3 guys and then consider having them each come in.

Talking to a bunch of people just means you're likely going to pick the one that interviews the best; not the one that is the best for your team.

Further, talking to a lot of people could "validate" a bad interview. That is, they bring 10 people in to interview and 1 or 2 have bad talks. The Kings can chalk it up to them not being as good as they hoped because the other 8 went fine. Bring in 3 guys and have 2 go wrong and it validates your interview as the problem.

I mean seriously, bringing in 6, 10, 15 guys to interview for the job absolutely wreaks of amateur hour. Of course, at this point I'd expect nothing less from this organization.

I disagree. Especially with a new GM. Vlade probably won't take more than 2-3 weeks to decide.

I agree about casting a wide net.. but what is there to talk with Del Negro about if that's true? I will assume it isn't until those talks are official. Lots of speculation that might not be accurate.

As odd as it sounds, Mark Jackson would actually be okay. He's someone that would get DMC to stop being an emotional lesbian and actually worry about basketball.

It's like a concert, always start with the lowest and least relevant people first. :D :D

Taking 2-3 weeks to decide is totally fine. That's not what I'm criticizing. What I'm criticizing is bringing in so many people for interviews when they should be able to be eliminated well before that by:
a) Looking at what they've done
b) Talking to people they've worked with

If they think 15 people legitimately pass their test to be coach then there's something wrong with that test.

Makes you wonder how many requests for interviews were politely declined...

We don't know who will actually interview either. Many potential candidates may all ready have said no thanks privately. Is there a candidate or two that you believe would possibly take the job that are levels above the rest?

I'm not sure there are any coaches of that caliber who are interested just yet either.

To me if I were Vlade I'd have lots of talks for now, then get serious on a second interview a bit later.

Maybe, but the names aren't inspiring. After the last few years I expected some inspiring names to come out early.

When Mike Woodson looks like the best candidate so far...it's a bit troubling.

What names were you expecting? None of the top tier names will even consider coaching the Kings.

Kings have one thing going for them: supply and demand. Vlade can thank Brooklyn and Phoenix for going with what I would consider Coaches who weren't on Vlade's wish list. As the number of teams looking for a coach shrink, the big fishes in the free agent coaching world may reconsider their demands or priorities. Kings may get lucky by taking their time with smaller fish in the beginning and circling back to the big catches later on when leverage has shifted. As for Woodson, he's not one of the first three so can we all agree his name was mentioned by Woj first because MW's agent made a phone call?

There will be a new name everyday until a coach is hired. Don't get so attached. At least that's my approach.

There should be a spectrum between top tier names and Mitchell/Del Negro /Brown etc

Malone got fired on a whim and Karl got run out of town (deservedly but it still doesn't look good) under a year into his contract. Why would any head coach want to join the team if they had other options?

The Kings are the least desirable destination for a coach in the league right now. Expectations are high, talent is middling and management is a mess.

So... how's McHale looking now?

Holy cow, this better be a quick elimination process.

My realistic pick.

I just hope we don't hear him say he doesn't want to interview.

Lionel Hollins, if we are seriously going to try another DMC led season. It's going to fail as usual, but we might as well do it to the best of our ability. Sign Hollins (Doubtful though),
