I've read your thread from this point to the end and don't come as a troll. I live in Rhode Island so effectively my home team - when I watch 30 minutes of basketball - is the Celtics. Before Vlade threw money at LaVine, I was hoping you would make a run at Smart. He's a subpar shooter - bring in Drew Hanlen to work with him - but he's a winner in every other way.
You have the cap space to offer him four at $55 mil or $60 mil but front load it at $16.5 mil or $15.5 mil and work down to $13.5 mil or $12.5 mil. He will bring defensive intensity like you've never seen. He's the guard equivalent of Andre Iguodala. He's a perfect fit with Fox. Looking at your payroll, Shumpert's $11 mil comes off after this season, so you'll still have some money to play with next season with the cap scheduled to go up to $108 mil.
I don't know whether the Celtics will match. It won't be easy for them because they've got to deal with Rozier who's going to be very unhappy coming off the bench. And then they're going to make their third $30 mil offer to Kyrie next July. That will give them three players - two coming off major surgery - at a combined $90 mil. Good luck.
I also don't believe that the pick you lose this coming year will be a bottom five pick. You have a nice young nucleus which has been underreported. The addition of Smart will not hurt you.
He knows how to win and he can play multiple defensive positions.
Good luck.
