Midtown is right before downtown man, like 29th street to 20th street. Even though technically East Sac where i stay would be considered midtown on a map

I was talknig about Downtown Plaza as the mall because the blocks are so small you can really walk there from any where in downtown and be fine... unless your punk lol

No I havent commited any crimes just DWI. I am 27 so bar scene is definantly crucial. So Midtown, W Sacto or E Sacto are the place I should look at to live because I will be able to get around. I have lived in the city I am originally from Boston so city life isnt new to me.

They haven't caught me yet... but its a bad habit that I'm slowly getting over with.

I think everyone saying to avoid south sac is exaggerating a little. If you're trying to save money its not as bad as some say, and yeah while the crimes may be higher if you mind your own business you most likely will be fine. Random crimes do happen but you can't avoid that anywhere. My grandparents have lived in meadowview for about 40 years and have had 1 or 2 breakins the whole time, 1 when no one was living in the house, the other was just tools stolen out of the garage, so its really not that bad of an option if you're looking for a more cheaper route.

Just to be clear, West Sac isn't Sacramento. It's whole other town in a different county directly across the river. It's a mostly industrial area with lots of truck drivers and the Russian mob living there. It's getting better though.

And south sac isn't that bad! I lived in south sac all my life and we've never had much trouble. The Greenhaven/Pocket area is fine and so is Land Park. Just avoid Mack and most of Meadowview and you'll be fine.

I haven't lived in Sac area since 1989 but am also moving back to the area from Orange County this month. I'm moving to Folsom but liked West Roseville as second option. These areas are newer but might be a little pricey for a guy that is relocating without a job. I'd recommend first lining up a job then choosing a place to live due to your lack of transportation. Natomas is close to dowtown and has some new areas plus that's where Arco Arena is. Others areas I haven't seen mentioned that are decent but older are Citrus Heights and Orangevale. Good luck.

Folsom, Roseville, Citrus Heights, and Orangevale are all very suburban and boring, although nice. The most walkable exciting neighborhoods would definitely be east sac and midtown. I would choose one of the 2.

Midtown is probably the better option.

Umm a DUI is a crime my friend ;) I'm just hazing!

Anyhow this ain't Boston. Think more downtown Springfield, Ma! I've never been to Ma, but my brother and sister were born there.

Downtown Springfield:

Tell me (locals) that doesn't look similar to Sac?

PetrieUnderstudy suggested Natomas, which is actually an area in the city of Sacramento, but there's only two buses IIRC that come to south Natomas and one that comes to North Natomas. I live in North Natomas (work in South Natomas), and my wife and I have got to be the youngest home owners (30/29) in this area. If we didn't have kids we'd live like above Mikuni's or somewhere Down/Midtown. All I gotta say is if you're fairly decent looking and can talk to girls you'll CLEAN UP in midtown. So many hoes!

You don't really want to get "too East" into E. Sac or "too West" into West Sacramento as an FYI. East Sacramento goes all the way to Watt Ave, and then Sac county (Rosemont basically) goes to Rancho Cordova. Sac doesn't have real distinct boundaries so East Sac is kind of open to interpretation. In Rancho Cordova (where I grew up) the local sports writer referred to us as the East Siders all the time. Basically stay West of 50th St. West Sac...just make sure you're within walking distance of the bridge.

This is a good thread surprisingly.

That can happen anywhere. My wife left the garage door open and my power tools were gone. I'm under the impression the thief will use them, too because my golf clubs went untouched!

Anyway...how come nobody brings up Fair Oaks being violent? Not that I'm scared to go anywhere in Sacramento County, but I've received more dirty looks and got into more scuffles (not really violent scuffles) in Folsom, Roseville, Fair Oaks, and lovely Orangevale than I'll ever get into in South Sac, the Heights, or Oak Park. I hate to always be the one who points this out but fear is relative to your surroundings, and I stick out like K-Mart's jump shot in the above areas!

Oh just a simple DWI? Yeah...that's not a big deal.

...only 17,000+ people die every year from alcohol-related crashes.

because the majority of murders in the county don't happen in fair oaks, they happen in south sac. and i'm not saying that as some scarred old white lady from folsom, i'm saying that as someone that used to kick it down there, 47th, 24th and florin, florin and tamoshanter, woodbine park, etc. and i'll tell you, theres areas down there, g parkway comes to mind, that i wouldn't go with out a pistol. so your telling me you'd go down to oak park after dark by yourself and walk around and everything is peaches and cream? and i'm not really trying to single out the south area, i'd dare you to go post up on A street in north highlands and not have any problems, shoot, theres apartment complexes in carmichael a friend of mine stayed in and they were terrible, 2 stabbings and someone firing shots within the course of the first 3 months my boy was there. so anyway, theres bad areas whereever, and i said that, carmichael is nice, but the amber ridge apartments or whatever are super grimey. its just the south area as whole has more hoodish areas, theres no denying that.

anyway man, good luck moving out here. sac is cool, i was born and raised out here, i've traveled and lived in new jersey when i was in high school for a couple years, but its cool in sac. the people are all real chill and laid back, someone had made a comment earlier that people in sacramento are stuck up or something, couldnt' disagree more, unless they were talking about one of the conservative, rich, boring suburbs like roseville or folsom or something.

Well I was being facetious about violence in Fair Oaks, but I wasn't kidding about the way people treat others in those neighborhoods. I absolutely hate Roseville and Folsom because I'm sorry what you say but people are too pretentious. People act like they have Manhattan money and walk around like they don't stink. The same can be said about areas in South Sac. Except the difference is people act harder than they are...again pretentious.

Felony assault is higher in South Sac, but there were 43 Homicides in Sac County last year. I was trying to find out a data breakdown of causes and locations and I lost the link I got the original info from. I'd bet at least 15% of those are auto related. One was the girl who "held her wee for a Wii" (don't laugh I knew her). The perception that the south is the Wild West is just not really justified.

http://www.news10.net/display_story.aspx?storyid=33797

People die in Fair Oaks as well

I looked up Meadowview in terms of crime numbers (513 incidents) versus Fair Oaks (349 incidents) in the last 90 days available and this is what it comes down to:

In Fair Oaks you're more likely to get your car stolen. Car related crimes are by far the most common crime anywhere in both areas. In Meadowview there are WAY more incidences of drugs and I would suspect that is the one of the drivers behind elevated crime levels.

Since we all pretty much agree Midtown is where to be I looked up crime data for the area and again out of 289 crimes in the last 90 days here's how it breaks down:

Burglary -72
Larceny Theft - 51
Auto Theft - 38
Vandalism - 27
Misdemeanor Assault - 20
DUI - 17
Felony Assault - 16

So hiphop...you're more likely to get caught drunk driving than getting your ass beat badly so don't push it :)

He can't drive so Orangevale is a NO! The bus runs all through C-Heights so it's not as bad, but the bus is slow here.

I'd stay clear of Oak Park unless you think you can hang with those guys. I went to school and out skirts of it but decided to wonder in one day after school and got jumped by hella dudes for not being from the area.

Night time rough too like 91siccx said. Lots of crimes don't get reported because its a lot of teen / young adult on teen / young adult violence and you gotta keep your mouth shut on stuff out there or you'll get labeled as a snitch... you don't want that

Rough...I played baseball at Christian Brothers one summer (was there from like 5:30 to dark every day) and nothing happened. Nobody got jumped. I didn't hear any gun shots. Nobody got stabbed...nothing? That's before the gate was put up on their campus.

Now I'm not saying Oak Park is a good neighborhood because it's not! 14th Ave is kind of scary! I'm just saying it's relative. One of the better law schools in the country (McGeorge) is in Oak Park. One of the most expensive private schools in the city is in Oak Park (Christian Brothers).
