I'm guessing the trade that almost went down for our 34th pick was probably Cleveland's future 1st. That would make sense all around since it would be late 20's in a less stacked draft and the Cavaliers have nobody on their roster we would trade 34 for.

Knicks fan here. Just wanted to say I think you guys did really well tonight. Fox, Justin Jackson, Harry Giles and Frank Mason?
I'm actually really jealous.

Can't trust Twitter unless it's from Woj. Smh. I saw two different tweets from sources (not woj) saying Wolves. Oh well. I like Houston better for Cam.

Can have total of 17 players. 15 NBA and 2 NBA/DLeague. And deuces to McLemore and Afflalo.
Giles should be one of the 2-way guys and Wiley would be my other choice.
Wiley looks like a possibility however he would not be my first choice . I won't complain if we bring him in though .

Overall I'm satisfied with the draft.
Fox and Justin Jackson were my bet a couple of days ago at #5 and #10, and apart from that we got Giles. I was reluctant to make a trade down, but I guess it was worth.
With Collins selected at #19, I think I would have preferred Swanigan, Ojeleye or Anunoby at #20, but with so many young players you can risk a high potential/bust player.
Mason at #34 is again a solid pick.
Thanks God we haven't done a Leonard/Turner deal with the Blazers, at least for now. Hope Vlade manages the cap space well...

I'm happy you didn't chase Zinger out of town too man.
Frank may take some time for you fellas, but he's got great size. Just be patient for a bit.

I saw on James Hams twitter that Fox and Jackson are close so that's a huge bonus. Said he was like a big brother.

I wanted OG too.
But I can respect a swing for the fences.

I don't mind if he takes times. As long as he takes strides throughout the year, I don't mind if we suck. I want Porter or Doncic next year (as I'm sure you guys do as well!)
I was ready to skin Phil Jackson's peyote smoking, senile old ass myself if he traded KP (I would have been sad if it was for a king's ransom but would have lived with that coup)

Yeah. We have a work email chain 30 messages long a day around Kings/NBA talk so it has replaced my RGM habit.
One day I will be more active...

#2: I thought the draft was OK. I think everyone thinks it was great because of the absurdly low bar we had to jump. I mean, as long as Vlade didn't get his * stuck in a blender and have us draft some unknown Euro it was bound to be a win in most people's eyes.
Personally, I'd have gone BPA at 10 (Monk) and probably would have passed on Mason at 34 for Bolden (though after the Giles pick Bolden would have been a poor selection--can only have so many high upside big men on the roster).
#3: I think the direction is pretty obvious. Draft high character, high work ethic, and (generally) high motor guys who want to be here.
#4: On the one hand I was kind of annoyed that we didn't attempt to take on any salary for more picks, but then I realized what the Kings may be thinking. That is, bringing in more than 4 rooks seems like overkill. Plus the value of cap space goes up as more teams get closer to it. So instead of grabbing more 2017 picks now, wait until free agency and acquire 2018 picks.
#5: Really hoping for a high pick next year. Justin Jackson IMO isn't a starting caliber player. Replace him in the starting lineup with a guy like Porter and this team could look really good.
BPA was Collins at that point. Monk was the more exciting pick but Zach is going to be a really good pro.
What salary were you interested in taking on and to get what picks? Lots of trade talks in top 10 but not much action so I'm happy we didnt try and get more picks and then look to package.
The draft went pretty great. We got an 1st team SEC point who filled position of great need, an ACC player of year, National Player of Year and a guy who barring injuries was number one prospect for most of his life. I think Vlade did phenomenal.
I do agree about Porter which would be amazing.

One of our local radio personalities was in favor of making a run at KP. This is the 1st time I can remember the consensus fan favorite falling to us.
I give Vlade credit. I would have taken Giles at 10. To move down and get him was awesome. That made my draft night.
I don't think KP was ever really on the block. More Phil public shaming than anything but when they were talking about the hypothetical trade with Phoenix and the Knicks I was not happy.

Disagree. The modern NBA puts great value on guards who can shoot (and score). Monk is absolutely elite at that. Collins has such a small sample size to be considered BPA there IMO.

Portland would have been the obvious target -- especially if we wanted to take a flier on a guy like Giles (still at 20).

Re: NBA 2017 Draft thread. 5th pick and 10th pick.
I think the draft was decent to pretty good. Fox was a no-brainer at 5. I think not taking ZCollins at 10 (and not trading for Drummond) was a sign that they want to give our bigs (Skal/WCS/PapaG) time to develop. That being said this is a huge year for WCS and if he doesn't develop they may look to draft his replacement next year (Bamba/Ayton/Williams). And logically, us taking Monk at 10 would have made coming over a little less desirable for Bogdan. I know Monk can play a little 1 and Bogdan can play a little 3 but he'd really be battling just to see the court. Now the backup 2-guard spot is his if he wants it (let Malachi develop in G-league)
Like most im not totally sold with the Jackson pick but time will tell. Was hoping for someone with a little more boom/bust upside but he can run and shoot so we'll see how it shakes out. I do like how active he is both offensively and defensively.
Between Fox, Jackson and WCS we have some guys that can really fly down the court.
Between Fox, Buddy, Jackson, Skal and WCS we may field at times the skinniest starting 5 in league history.
Mason pick i'm fine with at that spot. I see him spending the first half of the year in the G-league then being brought up at some point. The one thing we didn't get was a dirty work, rebounding big man.
It will be interesting to see how free agency shakes out. Where some people say go with a full youth movement and give all the young guys the bulk of the minutes i think you need vets setting the tone for the younger guys to learn winning habits from (both on and off the court). Collison or Lawson, a scoring wing, and a gritty rebounding big man should be priorities.
