This is really the mind blowing thing.

I remember Vlade would collect 2nds like Candy. It seemed like every trade was some minor piece for a 2nd and cash considerations. I didn't appreciate it then, but fast forward and IDK what the hell Monte even does with the 2nds or how we ended up in this spot. Just total mismanagement.

We paid 2 2nds to swap Davion + Sasha for McDaniels. Sasha gets bought out for 0, and then we waive McDaniels. What was the difference in McDaniels and Davions salary? 1-2 million. What a joke. I've never seen that cost to dump a million. 99% of the time you pay some cash and teams absorb the difference to make a few bucks. But god forbid Vivek ever includes cash in his deals.

We gave up a swap to a team with the next generational talent to take Barnes (who has been good for them), and then still gave 2 2nds to Chicago for taking on Duarte's small deal. After we gave Indiana 2 2nds for the bust known as Duarte. So Duarte costs us 4 2nds himself, when it was obvious he was a bad player.

so 4 2nds + a swap to get Demar basically.

Then how many 2nds have we sold instead of trading them for future capital. Outside of Lyles deal, and Sabonis, Monte's trades have been pretty horrendous.

then we waive McDaniels.

No we didn't. To make matters worse, he was traded to the Spurs along with the 2031 2nd round pick for essentially a fake 2nd round pick that is Chicago's and protected top 55.

So the trade was:
Davion
Sasha
#45 Pick
'25 Port 2nd (currently at #37)
'31 Sac 2nd

For (drumroll please)
'25 Chi 2nd (protected top 55)

The funny thing is we knew davion didn't figure into long term plans. Every damn person knew he was gone, but we never make moves early, we always wait until it's too late.

Like trade deadline teams are trying to improve. We couldn't have dumped Barnes for an expiring? We couldn't have got a 2nd for davion?

Knicks gave value for Bojan. They wouldn't have given the same package for Barnes?
Bucks gave a 2nd for bev, they wouldn't have for davion?

It's a common theme with Monte. Doesnt sell non fits for value, and then ends up paying to dump them when he wants to go after the next shiny thing. But it's just spending picks to go in circles no real upgrades.

Charlotte just sold Richards for 2 2nds. I wish we could have done that last year. Borderline bench players for picks.

Wouldn't mind knocking on the door of the 76ers for Yabusele.

Colby for Yabusele.

Was cooking up a Fox trade in case it comes to that. Here's where I ended up. Don't love it, but maybe we get better on the court?

Kings out: Fox, Huerter
Kings in: LaVine, Whitmore, Eason, 2-3 1sts?

Monk - LaVine - DeRozan - Keegan - Sabonis
Carter - Keon - Whitmore - Eason - Lyles
Much deeper bigger team. Get another guard who is having an AS season, and add tons of assets. That bench is nasty defensively/shooting.

Houston out: Eason, Whitmore, FVV, 2 or 31sts
Houston in: Fox, Huerter

Fox - Green - Amen - Brooks - Sengun
Sheppard - Huerter - Jabari - Green - Adams
Keep Amen, Jabari, Sengun, and Green while adding Fox.

Chicago out: LaVine
Chicago in: FVV
Chicago dumps Lavine for an expiring. Moves to rebuild.

Just cut Chicago out or the Kings need 2 x 1sts for taking Lavine. So 5 x 1sts overall.

Not to be negative, but we have differing views on Fox..

GMs can feel the way you guys do about his worth, or they can feel closer to I do.. (RealGM trade board is in the middle it seems)

I'm worried there is a market with several interested teams lowballing us..

I hope thats not true, but getting Eason/Whitmore/firsts/FVV etc... just not seeing it

but if we are getting lowballed, I still would like management to just pull the scab regardless

Typically I agree. But I can't see the team taking a step back. LaVine is having a career year, and he fills in the Fox gap. But he's got a lot more size and can even shift to the 3.

I'm not in favor of moving Fox, but if we do, this is the kind of deal I could live with. Star replacement, 2 young wings, 2+ draft picks.

And ya, we can probably ask the Bulls for a pick here. We save them 90+ million.

Yes yes.. We know. The guy who lacks "innate motor" is sleepwalking his way to another 26-6-5-2 season while shooting nearly 50% from the field. He's worth peanuts. Kings should just give him away. I'm sure Sabonis is prepared to drop 35 in the playoffs every night. Checks Notes* oh Kevon Looney gave him fits the last time we went to the playoffs and Fox went toe to toe with a GOAT, hmmm. Doesn't fit our narrative though lets pretend that didn't happen lol.

Hmmm. That kind of sounds like your trying to set up the narrative for when Fox is still a King after the deadline its only because no one was interested in him, which won't be the case at all.

Guaranteed if Fox is traded he will bring back a godfather like haul. Guys with his accolades heading into the prime of their careers don't get traded for medium returns. Like ever. You can not like the player, we get it. But at this point its comical.

I thought that might have been the path you were taking with Lavine. And to some extent I agree with you on another scorer as when Fox went out and Monk was either on the bench or not hitting the offense went stagnant. Need another killer scorer and no not DDR as the offense would literally come to a halt. He is doing well with the way he is playing right now, he doesn't need more iso touches.

Ultimately I'd prefer to just keep him of course. I'd just be clear with fox, what does it take to get you to stick around? We got sabonis, we got derozan, monk resigned, what is the next step for you to commit?

If its a realistic add like "clear up the guard glut and get us another big". Then I as monte would be motivated to make that deal happen. This roster has proven with a good coach + Devin/Keon playing we can be on memphis/Houston level. Get huerter + gone for Collins and we fix a lot of the roster imbalance.

But if his ask is unrealistic (win a title, etc), I'd rather trade him now before he becomes an expiring.

This part.

The sudden propensity of this fanbase in trying to give away a rare star that we own is ludicrous.

See I can jive with this because it makes sense.

But I still don’t move him til summer before the draft. It’s just not going to work now and keep the team moving and on the current upswing. It will kill morale and momentum and anyone you bring in at that level will need to much time to acclimatize and the drop off will be the end of this season.

I think that's the risk you either take or don't. If you believe the chemistry can hold for a period of time, then it shouldn't persuade you from swinging from the fences. I think that's where Monk comes in and how he would get the team around him and keep morale high.
The Kings have a tough schedule prior to the trade deadline so it is going to be difficult to navigate. BUT a 3 game road trip to Dallas, NOP, NOP, then 8 days off might just do the trick and that is all after trade deadline day. Then you have another 27 games to get ready for a PO run. That's a lot.

I'm not suggesting to trade Fox. Personally I think he will be here long term if the team can make improvements around the seams. If they can't, then yes a trade in the off season is likely.

I will put this in here for now, but if a mod wants to move it that's ok too, however it does pertain to trade discussion in the end.
I want to get people's thoughts on Fox and his contract. I am still of the major belief he still has aspirations of a supermax contract and it's not far off.

All NBA Team Locks At The Moment
Jokic
SGA
Giannis

Having A Great Season And In Contention (who am I missing?)
KAT
Sabonis
AD
Trae
Cade
LaMelo*
Tatum
Wemby
KD*
Ant
Brunson
Maxey

Games Qualify Update
KD needs to play 35 of Phoenix Suns' 40 remaining games to qualify.
LaMelo needs to play 38 of Charlotte's 44 games to qualify.
Fox needs to play 27 of the teams' 41 games to qualify.

So when you look at the guys above, right now, I think Fox makes it, which makes him supermax eligible.

So then it becomes the question.
Do you trade Fox now because you will be bound to offering a supermax and if you don't its a huge PR hit IMO. And if you do, as much as I love Fox, a supermax contract would sink this franchise. It's the same as any other franchise with one, the old CBA era was hard enough to build a team with 1 in it let alone the new CBA era.

I don’t want him making the regular max here but your list is suspect

Doncic
Cavs players
Brown
Tyrese
Banchero
Lavine
Sengun
Harden
Both lakers
Steph

And I just stopped midway through the west have an argument

I don’t tip him making it

Doncic - Doesn't qualify. Can't qualify.
Cavs players - Mitchell almost career lows in scoring and assists. Won't make it on current trajectory. Garland not as good as Mitchell either. Team success though? Maybe.
Brown - Nope. Fox is a decent amount ahead.
Tyrese - How is his season better than Fox's? Because it's not on the same planet.
Banchero - Going to be really tough to play 56 of the Magics 39 remaining games.
Lavine - please.
Sengun - Could have a case with team success. Will they have Jokic, Sabonis, KAT, AD and Sengun in an All NBA team? Maybe.
Harden - 39.8 FG%. Come on now.
Both lakers - Had AD in that initial list. Bron MIGHT make it.

So, Fox has a much better chance as we sit right now than almost anyone on your list.

Add Mitchell, Bron, Sengun to my initial list. That's still 18 guys and then Fox with potentially a few more to fall off from a games played perspective. He isn't just close, IMO he is in at this point.
Now, if the Kings don't make the POs then yeah I don't see him making it, but I think that's a given for both he and Domas.

Tyrese - team success, more integral and playing much better as season goes

Some are arguable, but I’m not seeing it
