Re: California Classic
One thing the kings seem to be consistent at is using the talents on the roster....Joerger is stuck in the NBA of 10-20 years ago. His staff are no better. Doesn't anyone watch film?

Yes, he looked great. Really think he alone can develop into a player that makes this a playoff team if he plays how he did then/first few weeks of last season/crunch time. His body looked good

Re: California Classic
Bagley no impact/points at the half. I just don’t want him to be a bust now. Starter will do

Re: California Classic
Unless there are some rules the coaches have to follow on certain plays not to run (pick and roll clearly), then should it come to pass that Dave Joerger doesn't make it all the way through the year it looks like the Kings might be in some trouble if one of these guys get the chair! My goodness, I think Viveks coaching of his daughters team might be a better option than this. They aren't involving Bagley at all outside of late clock post ups where another Kings big dives into the paint making it a 4 person wall between he and the hoop. He faces up and has to pass the ball back out because there is nowhere to go. smh. They can't draw up a simple lob play or a drop off? He's a finisher above all right now and they haven't let him be that 1 time so far. If SL is any indication of how the Kings are going to play during the year it looks like more of the same folks.

This coaching staff has never looked competent the last few years when it comes to summer league

I'm sure part of it is they want them to do the things they aren't comfortable with but c'mon, like maybe a few pick and rolls for the bigs just to get something going? Bagley and Giles are again spending 90% of their time in the middle paint and the other 10% posting up.

Re: California Classic
There you go. That's mostly what Bagley is at this point. They finally had two dump offs to him, one at the rim and the other on the fast break. He'll eventually learn to find his shot in the face up game (assuming they understand spacing) but right now as a finisher he can help the team.

Said this over on the draft board for the past year. I think his first couple years he is going to be that ultimate garbage man. Put backs, dump offs and transition buckets. Then by year 3 we will start to see his shot become more consistent and more comfortable with his handle. AD only scored 13ppg as a rookie and 75% of his shots were assisted on. Seeing him now, you would never think of him as a garbage man type player, but that is what he was early on.

I'll be honest. I'd take Miles over Mason.

Some think he'll never be more than that, I disagree, but it's also the reason he can almost single-handedly cause the Kings FG% to jump upward if he's playing with guards that look for him off pick and roll or on dump off's.

Ya with his work ethic I think he should have no problem progressing. With his great athleticism, solid form on his jumper, really nothing is going to hold him back from being able to improve at a rapid pace. The biggest thing he needs to work on is that off hand. But ya I know a lot of people want instant results, but I think 13ppg as a rookie, 18ppg his 2nd year and 20+ his 3rd year would be great progression.
If Fox was playing today, Bagley would probably have 15+ points at least. There has been close to 10 times where Bagley had great positioning down low on a guards drive and he was there for an easy dump off, but the guard never made the pass. Fox would make that pass.

The only thing the Kings can rely on since they aren't running hardly any pnr is either post up domination or guards collapsing the defense and Fox is the only player capable of doing that so I agree, it would be different.

So ya...no Fox is the reason for Bagley's poor showings? Seems like the excuse Im hearing.
So is Mason the backup PG we want going into the season and is he capable of getting Bagley and Giles the ball in scoring positions?

I question the motor/work ethic thing too man, as those usually make impacts on games.

Bagley has tailed off I'm sure on his own as well and not immune to blame but lets get him some function and then see what happens. This is why I'm such a proponent of getting your best players an easy look early whether it be a back door, a lob, a fast break dunk, etc. Once that confidence starts to sink it's all down hill. The game of basketball is based almost entirely on rhythm so it would seem to make sense getting an early flow should be priority number 1. I'm watching another Kings summer league team that is 10 steps behind the other teams. Every year they struggle to run almost any simple set play and that's coaching man. All the way.
As for Mason. Again, you have to look at history and his natural game is most likely going to see him playing overseas if he doesn't either adjust away from that, or find the perfect situation for him to be that. This is not it and if the FO knows what it's doing it will never be. He can do those things but this is another reason why drafting older players can be troublesome if they don't immediately fit a custom made role for them, will he do those things? Can he adjust his game significantly at this point in his development? I've liked Miles so far. His size and approach seems more like player that can fit the regular roster to me. He's a defender first as well. He can give you something without having to score or create for others off of trying to score for himself which is essentially what Mason does even when he does create for others.
