Challenge: make the kings a contender

The challenge is to make the kings into a contender within 2 years. the reason for this is because we are in our offseason and have less to discuss.
I think the kings have several pieces that would be useful in a championship run but I think they would need to make some moves to get there in the next 2 years.
I think I have a couple ideas that could accelerate us into compete mode.
trade the #3
Spencer hawes
Donte Greene
for
Marc Gasol
#12 pick
I would prefer to go after someone like Bogut whom I think could be had for a little cheaper and may be more impactful but There is something about Gasol's game that makes me think he would be the perfect fit with Evans.
grizz do it because They still view Thabeet as the future and the package the recieve allows them to get a guy like Cousins or Favors and get a center in Hawes that allows them to continue on their current path. They also get Donte greene to hedge their bets on Gay.
Kings do it to get a true anchor on the defensive end and to get a potential all star level center.
Trade # 2
Jeff Green
for
Jason Thompson
Kings draft
Pattrick Patterson with #12
Kings sign Reddick to 4mil per for 4 years
New lineup looks like this.
Udrih/Reddick
Evans/Garcia
J Green/Casspi/Nocioni
Landry/Patterson
M Gasol/Brockman
This team I think can be a contender.

Haha, wow... That is not a contender, lol. Those 2 trades are very very bad. I would rather keep both Hawes+Green AND get Cousins/Turner..
Thompson is a legit 4/5 and has more value than Jeff Green. Rather keep Thompson as well.
And Reddick for 4 mill for 4 years? Really?

^^^Well the point of the thread was a challenge if you disagree so much show me your plan to put a contender on the floor within the next 2 years.
I think that Thompson vs Green is about equal. Green and his complete game would be very useful and he's a pretty solid 3pt shooter which is important with evans.
I think that Gasol + Patterson is more important to contending for our team than the Package the kings send out. Gasol is further along the lines of development than is Cousins. Turner isn't a very good 3pt shooter so I don't want him on the same team as Evans.

Yeah, I wouldn't do those trades either. Thompson is a valueable player, as is Greene. Both going into their 3rd year, I want to see what kind of jump they can make. Greene in particular has alot of talent.
IMHO, it's too early to start this, simply because their are too many questions:
How good can Greene & Casspi become?
Will Hawes live up to his potential?
What player will we get in the upcoming draft?
....& will said player become a all-star talent next to Reke?
Exactly ....how good can tyreke evans become?
Will all that in mind, I think Petrie is waiting things how these guys develop and mesh as a team. If Tyreke continues to work and become a superstar player, and the current players we have continue to develop their games, who's to say in 3-4 years we don't have a contending team?
Thats the best option IMO, considering 70% of our core players are 23 and under.

No way the Grizzlies do the first trade. That's really lopsided in our favor.

if hedo's contract was like 3 years, i would consider trading for him, potentially sign a big if possible, or sg, depending on the outcome of the draft.

It's tough to do because it's almost impossible for the Kings to make deals now that turn them into a contender now, but....this is my "get the F out of the way it you don't play D build around Reke and Landry team!"
Draft:
#3 Derrick Favors
#33 Jarvis Varnado
Buy a 2nd rounder (new concept for the Maloofs I know) and select Luke Harangody.
Trade #1:
Noc and Hawes to Philly for Sam Dalembert
- Gives the Sixers some tax relief and the young C they originally wanted back in the '07 draft. Gives the Kings a legit rebounder/shotblocker in the paint
Trade #2:
Jason Thompson to Detroit for Tayshaun Prince
- Detroit needs some quality young bigs. Kings get a veteran presence that is the definition of "glue guy". He can fit in, play D, run point, and shoot.
Trade #3:
Beno Udrih and Jarvis Varnado to Chicago for Kirk Hinrich
- Udrih fits their needs better IMO. He can provide a spark plug for the Bulls off the bench and/or can play with D. Rose much in the same way he does with Tyreke. Varnado seems like a Bulls type to me. It also gives them about 2 million more $$$ to play with in summer. Kings get a quality defender that also happens to be a decent spot shooter from 3.
Free Agency:
Pretty low key, Re-sign Udoka and Brockman. Also sign Orien Green as another tough wing defender for depth purposes. He was pretty decent with us a few seasons ago. 13th man void goes to Greg Ostertag for whatever the max is set at so we can see those fantabulous booty shorts again.
Lineup:
PG: Hinrich/Green
SG: Evans/Garcia
SF: Prince/Casspi/Udoka
PF: Landry/Brockman/Harangody
C: Daly/Favors/Tag
I see a team with a solid 8 1/2 man rotation. Garcia gets most of the minutes backing up the 1, 2, and 3. Casspi should get decent minutes at the 2 and 3 as well. The frontcourt minute breakdown is as follows: Landry 36 mpg at PF (maybe a few at C in a small ball lineup as well) and Daly at around his average of 24 mpg at C. That leaves 36 mpg total for the backups. Favors is obviously going to see the bulk of those minutes at PF and C with Brockman getting whats left. Harangody is for depth purposes or if our team desperately needs some offense/shooting from the frontcourt. He's a high potential player IMO and worth developing.
The team as a whole would play a slower tempo a la the Blazers or Celtics. I think there's enough spacing around Evans and Landry to give them prime operating room and consequently they should share the bulk of the 75-80 shots per game on average. 20 or so for each of them. They are the primary offensive focus with the need to dish out to the wide open shooter on ensuing double teams a priority. Offensive rebounding is a huge plus this team has over others having multiple quality offensive rebounder's in Landry, Favors, Dalembert, and especially Brockman. This team would make teams pay dearly on the offensive glass considering the tempo of the game.

Ehh. really not feeling Hinrich unless it's Noc for Hinrich. Beno is simply a better player at this point.
Also Dalembert is a nice defensive player, but he's not really an anchor. I mean Philly was 24th in defense this year, and it's not like he's got crappy defenders on the wings. He's got Iguodola, Young, Holiday, and then he's playing next to Elton Brand. Granted Eddie Jordan is a horrible defensive coach, and they were better last year (although still barely above average).
There are just other guys I'd much rather go after.

Really!? I think the exact opposite myself. I wouldn't trade Cousins, Favors, or Johnson at 3 for Gasol straight up. Nor would I trade Hawes and Greene for the 12th pick straight up.

It's all about fit and defense. Hinrich is OK doing the things Beno isn't, like standing out of the way at the 3 point line and playing lock down defense.
Philly allowed teams to shoot nearly 40% from 3. Terrible wing defense regardless of defensive potential, chemistry issues abound. Daly's still a guy that makes players think twice about entering the lane and he makes up for Landry's lack of defensive rebounding. He's also an excellent shot deterrent and has one of the sickest defensive wing trios ever constructed in Hinrich, Evans, and Prince up front. Dalembert and Favors at C is 48 minutes of defense and rebounding not to mention more than decent athletic ability as a whole. This is all about putting the most idealistic qualities you could wish for around Tyreke Evans. The other positive is that Daly and Prince are expiring so if it doesn't work you haven't screwed your cap for an eternity. If it did work you re-sign them for what will most likely be less $$$. Okafor could also be another possibility at C if the Hornets are looking to dump him, Dalembert is more acquirable however.

Oh, and much like the Pistons of '04 it's a very blue collar team. The chemistry should be awesome.

So if I HAD to do my best to make us a contender, this is what I would TRY to do:
1. Draft Cousins and Warren/Lawai/Babbit/Pondexter
2. S&T with Raptors for Bosh: Landry, Hawes, Garcia and Noc for Bosh & filler
3. Sign Randy Foye
W/Foye:
Foye/Beno
Tyreke/Casspi
Greene/Casspi
Bosh/Brockman
Cousins/Thompson
I feel like either one of these lineups would be able to compete with the big guns within a year or two. Bosh would be the PERFECT compliment to Tyreke and Cousins would be a great player to have right next to Bosh. Thompson off the bench playing 3-5 would be such a nice luxury and Foye would be excellent to facilitate and play next to Tyreke. I feel like if Greene could become a stopper on defense, this team would be almost perfectly well rounded.

^^^I like it pretty well KM44 but I don't think we get the raptors to take Nocioni in that deal but that's ok we still have enough capspace to absorb the rest of bosh's contract without any problems. The other issue I have here is that Cousins is a poor fit with bosh I would instead look to draft Favors or I would look at trading back to pick Aldrich who would be a perfect fit with Bosh.
SacKingzzzz
I like your compete build a lot. But i'm always a fan of a more balanced team and I feel you love defense so much that that team would struggle to score 80pts. There needs to be a true 3rd option on offense in the starting lineup and a better offensive force off the bench to be a spark plug. your build would benifit from adding more 3pt shooter's.

My plan is very simple. Get the #2 pick and take Evan Turner. To me that is all we would need to contend for the playoffs. With some other movies, I think we could contend for better seeding.

You do realize you traded the pick to get either Favors or Cousins in order to get Lopez, right?

basically im assuming kings win lottery and get #1 pick while NJ gets the #3-5 pick. we swap this years picks, give them next yrs 1st. we will turn one of our biggest weaknesses into one of our biggest strengths along with evans holding down our back court and greene turning into the beast he has the potential to be, this is a solid playoff team in 2 years..

Not a good assumption as if anything it's more likely that the Nets end up w/ #1 and the Kings are #3-5
