What are your thoughts on acquiring Brendan Haywood this offseason? Would you be OK with Haywood being the FA we get with our cap space? The Kings would most likely have to be willing to pay around $10M per for the next 4 or 5 years. I think its overpaying, but realsitically IMO thats what the Kings will have to do anyway. Haywood is exactly what this team needs, he's a good post defender, blocks shots, rebounds. He's a defensive presence next to Landry, it moves both Hawes and Thompson to the bench where they should be IMO and hopefully they are able to work on and improve their games and bodies this offseason. If we could sign Haywood to something like 5/$50 and get Turner in the draft, we wouldn't be too far off from contending IMO.

Depends on who we draft but I'd like him. For 10 million a year? Hell nah! Just too much $$$ for a role player. If it was like literally the last piece we needed to get over the top then maybe but it's not. Might be better off trying to find us a young "Haywood" or trading for an existing contracted talent with less years.

He destroyed us in the ESPN Washington game. I saw him trying to defend the pick and roll in the playoffs and he was horrible at it. However in the paint, you can put him on other centers and trust that he'll be ok defending one on one.

But yeah, he's going to want a lot of cash. Maybe though, the horrible playoff series and all the minutes that Carlisle refused to give him would force him to have a lower asking price.

If we draft Favors, he should be the primary target, else it's debatable, we'll need more scoring upfront.

I prefer Cousins .. some Risk .. high reward .. combination of Tyreke and Cousins is just very
Shaq & Penny to me .. throwing Haywood in that mix I could like .. but not at the price of 10 per year .. not if we have Cousins ..

Favors has huge upside .. but mixing JT/Landry/Favors ... unless JT bulks up and is permanent 5 ...I can't see Favors as a benefit at center being 6'9" ...a guy like Cousins commands the paint .. and him creating lanes and or blocking out for Tyreke .. seems to good to pass up ..

I pretty much agree with every point here.

I'd rather take Cousins for 1/3 of the dough and work on his defense. Haywood would really be a good fit here, but not for 10m

I can see Sacramento bringing in a veteran guy like Haywood even if they draft a big (Cousins, etc.) however, I can't see them offering anywhere close to $10 million/year.

If we end up with Cousins there is noneed to overpay for someone like Haywood. We would be much better off signing a guy for mid-level type money and contract length as a vet b/u prescence. We are just not in a position to need a Haywood type right now. And I am not sure how much he would help after seeing how Dallas did in the first round. I think that people often make the mistake that guys who are defense-only at Center are a must have. In the East, yes, because of the slower pace and half-court dominant style a big thug Center is more necessary. However in the West, the game is much more motion open and free-flowing and you need a mobile Center who can also hit a mid-range jumper.

Fesenko is a better target at a fraction of the cost.

Exactly my thought. Why overpay when you do not need to?

I like Fesenko but the truth is that while he comes at a fraction of the cost, he also provides a fraction of the production. Still, paying Haywood mega millions while not even close to really knowing what the finished product of this team will look like is a huge mistake.

Watch Fesenko during the series against the Lakers. You won't be impressed.

Why pay a 30 year old guy that much for the legnth that he'll want it won't help our team. Draft cousins and looke to move one of hawes or landry for a reserve shot blocking big man.

I like Haywood, but at 10 million a year I am not sure he would be the best player for that kind of money. I wouldnt mind going after Dirk for a 3 or 4 year deal.
