76ers willing to trade #2 pick

OK, according to Chad Ford (yes, take it with a grain of salt), the 76ers would be willing to trade the #2 pick if the trading partner takes on Brand (and his little $51 million contract).
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_ ... -no-2-pickI actually thought about this, Tuesday night after the draft lottery, but didn't think it would really give the 76ers that much salary flexibility (not to mention being a huge gamble with our cap space).
While it wouldn't shock me if Philly is throwing out a trial balloon, I wonder what they really want.
Here are some thoughts for the Kings:
--If we take on Brand, would we need to give them the #5 pick? Or could it be a player or next year's first rounder?
--If we're not going to get any of the big name FA's (Bosh, Amare, LJ, Wade, J. Johnson, Boozer), then there really isn't much else to spend our cap space on anyway -- except for overpaying for some players (David Lee, would be great, but we'd probably have to overpay to get him).
--So, would it be worth it to basically add Evan Turner to our team, knowing that without significant cap flexibility the next few years, we would have the same players we have now, plus Turner (and some minor contracts)?
pg:Evans/Udrih
sg:Turner/Garcia
sf:Greene/Casspi/Noc
pf:Brand/Landry/Broc
c:Hawes/Thompson
or
pg:Udrih
sg: Evans/Garcia/Casspi
sf: Turner/Greene/Noc
pf: Landry/Thompson
c: Brand/Hawes/Brockman
The options are endless.....
I don't know, for now, I can't say yes or no to this. I'd engage Philly, to at the very least, get Turner into town for a workout with Evans and company and see what we think. Could the two of them work together? Don't know.
If many of us believe that we need another star and we're not getting a big name FA, and if Turner could become that star, is it worth it?
Thoughts??

my first reaction is

to 51 million in the next 3 years!
its basically a given that we would have to send them the 5th pick this year.
first thought say no to this trade becasue of his huge contract... but it is very interesting if he could return to form
i might do it if we can send them No-c-oh-NO!!!

2nd thoughts say doing this trade kills our free agency flex. the next 3 years which im sure we can all agree is going to be our best shot at signing an all star as they earn a reputation around the league.
id rather take cousins or johnson and have all that cap space... no thanks sixers

I'd do it if Turner really fit here at all, but he doesn't. He's worth in terms of talent, but not when you factor in that he's a poor fit.

If Sacramento has to take on Brand, there's no way we'd send then #5 back in the deal,

Just not happening, not in this draft at least. I think trying to hit a homerun through the draft alone is a mistake. We scored huge with Evans and have a real decent shot at getting some major talent in the form of Wes Johnson, Al Farouq Aminu, or Demarcus Cousins. The only thing we might need after that is one big FA signing and time.

Exactly. We would keep both our fifth pick and have the second pick as well.

if thats the case who would u take? you can really shake up the top 5.. do you take favors at 2 and hope cousins drops to 5? do you take evan turner at 2 and then get left with johnson at 5 ? do you trade one of the picks to a team with 2-3 1st round picks? that would be very interesting

I would do it if we are able to keep our #5 in the process.
I'm probably in the minority that believes that Brand can be serviceable to an extent that he will be an upgrade to our frontcourt...

I'd do it, take Favors at #2 and Wesley at #5.
Brand may have no knees, but he could teach Favors/Thompson/Landry a few things, and we might have a waist deep big core but you can't deny having Favors/Wesley both wouldn't be worth it.

I don't think you draft Favors over a guy like Evan Turner. I think the main reason trading for the #2 is to get the opportunity draft Evan Turner not Favors.

Turner isn't as good a fit as Johnson/Favors would be IMHO. But I suppose taking Turner and then Aldrich at #5 is equally as good.

You do not take Favors at 2. If Favors is who you want then you trade #2 to NJN for #3 and filler.
Prokorov wants a big name and Evan Turner is the 2nd biggest name in the draft.
Beno/Garcia
Evans/Greene/Garcia
Johnson/Casspi/Garcia/Noc
Favors/Landry
Hawes/JT
I might even look to trade down from 5 to pick up back court help. Get a poing guard and another pick and get Aldrich or Whiteside.
Maybe even trade #2 and #5 for #3 and Harris
Harris/Beno/2nd (combo guard
Evans/Garcia/2nd (2nd combo guard)
Greene/Casspi/nocioni
Favors/Landry/JT
Brand/JT/Hawes
I know many of you will hate it, but I think it is a good lineup full of athletes and versatility. Look to swing a draft day deal for Hawes.

^^^We wouldn't have to give up that much. I believe that the number 2 is worth harris and the number 3 by itself.
If we were to go out and get the Number 2 pick and take on brand this is the way I would do this.
Kings trade the #2 and Nocioni
for the #3 pick.
draft Cousins and Wes johnson.
trade Greene and garcia for Gadzuric.. With Brand on the Books we need the capspace.
Trade Landry for Rudy Fernandez and Bayless.
new lineup
Cousins/Hawes
Thompson/Brand/Brockman
Johnson/Casspi
Evans/Rudy
Udrih/Bayless
That team is primed to compete. And while the salary structure is top heavy with Brand, by the time this team starts handing out all of the extensions it's going to have to give Brand will be coming off the books.
To be Honest that team looks amazing to me.

Given the opportunity, you would pick Cousins over Favors?

^^^yeah. Cousins just has the potential to be dominant. I know there is a lot of risk with him, but if he were to live up to his potential he could be like a 6'11 version of Shaq, always commanding a double team great foot work in the post big enough to shove people around and solid ability to pass out of the double team.

He's good but I just don't see that happening. A true 6'11" Shaq would be far more athletic. I think people forget how agile Shaq was in his younger days and into his prime. Cousins has the potential to be Eddy Curry with higher IQ, great hands, great vision, that will potentially lead the league in rebounds every year. Easily a player you build around for sure. The one thing that scares me about him is also one of his positives I guess. He came into the combine in much better shape than he has been in for awhile and still came in at almost 300 pounds. Not too hard to figure out why the guy can't jump over a small town phonebook.

Just kidding, he's not that bad athletically and he probably tested out decently but still. He is just simply "big boned". I don't think that bodes too well for him getting all that much more fleet of foot.

^^^I went back to watch some of the highlights from shaq and yeah shaq was way more athletic with the ability to play above the rim. He also had such a flair and style even at that point in his development.

Cousins scares me. I see him and I think of the NBAs version of Jamarcus Russell. Lazy, no work ethic, and attitude problems is a bad combination especially when u are already that big. Give me Favors all day
