Monroe vs Whiteside

Post#1 » by king125 » Wed Jun 16, 2010 3:34 pm

The Kings are bringing them in for another workout. Contingency plan? Trading down?

Who would you rather have?

Looks to me like trading down. Possibly to #11. A deal might have already been struck and could take place draft day (pure speculation)

Collison/11 could be headed to the kings. I am now thinking that we draft whiteside. He grades out as a potential Tyson Chandler type player...limited offensive game, great rebounder and defense. If he turns into an elite shot blocker, he could be a Marcus Camby type...which would be solid. I read that he impressed the kings.

It is looking more and more like the kings will not be picking 5th in this draft.

If we don't stay at 5 and get Cousins, id much rather do a Collison + #11(Whiteside) than a past his prime Prince and #7 (Monroe or Whiteside). In the end if Cousins is there at 5 im thinking GP takes him, this is basically a contingency plan workout.

who says Whiteside lasts to 11. GS, Detroit, and Utah are in the market for a Center. Say Cousins goes at 4, New Orleans (if that is the trade partner) would probably take Johnson (they need help on the wings) who would GS, Detroit, and Utah take? Monroe? Udoh? Patterson? Aldrich? all ahead of Whiteside?

I would be fine with this if it happened. It would give Hawes 1 last chance to prove his worth while Whiteside develops this year. It would be a great team moving forward.

Evans/Collison/Udrih/Garcia would split the backcourt (plus maybe whoever we get at 33)
Greene/Casspi fight it out for the 3 spot
Hawes/Landry/Thompson/Whiteside would split the frontcourt.

I would rather have Whiteside over Monroe.

Just out of curiosity, has anything been reported or even formally suggested about Collison/11 for 5 to Sacramento? I haven't read anything, yet you Kings fans seem fairly confident in it. Unless they were getting Cousins and shedding a contract as well, I can't see why NOH would do that.

I talked to GP just now and he said the rumor was true. The trade would have already been completed but the Fax machine at his office broke so he sent his assistant down to Kinkos to wait for the fax from New Orleans to come through.

haha, in truth we are all just a bunch of message board maniacs who think we know whats going on. thats me anyways

There have been no conversations between both teams for Collision. Kings did however call another team concerning another PG via trade though

You can't see why a team would trade Collison and 11th for the strong possibility of having Cousins? Really? Because I think that's too little for the Kings to accept.

So much of this draft [lottery] is going to be decided based on what Minnesota does at #4. They have so many options and could really shake up the draft. The Kings need to be in a position where no matter what Minnesota does they'll be happy.

What if Minnesota takes Johnson at 4? Well, in that case Favors or Cousins falls to the Kings.

What if Minnesota takes Cousins at 4? Then the Kings need to make the choice to trade down or stand pat. Maybe the only offers that are legitimate have them moving down to, say, 15 or 20. In that case they say "none of our guys will be on the board then, so we'll take Monroe". What if there's a trade on the table returning them a pick in the 7-11 range? Well, then maybe they make it and take Whiteside.

What if Minnesota makes a trade at #4? Then it all depends where Minnesota moves and who takes their place. It really just comes back down to the above scenario.

It's all about having a contingency plan because the top of the draft is so fluid. The Kings are making sure that they target multiple players that they *CAN* get depending on what other teams do.

I like both players for different reasons. Monroe for his passing, fundamentals, and high basketball IQ. and he's perfect for the Princeton offense. I like whiteside for his defense and his ability to hold low post position, and alter shots. and his mid range game.

Petrie has an intriguing decision to make. and I trust him completely.

We don't run the Princeton anymore...doesn't fit Tyreke's style.

ya we actually run the "Tyreke" offense now, which means all you bigs get the hell out of the way while I drive the lane. and if the lane gets clogged i am gonna dish it out and you bigs (Landry, Thompson, Hawes, #5) better be able to shoot the 15-17 footer.

Why you think Petrie is having all these big guys shoot so much at the workouts? The truth is Cousins might be the worst fit for this team. He is not that great at post defense and his offense is more geared for the post (back to basket) even though he did kill it at his workout shooting jump shots. Whiteside has a nice jumper and plays defense. He might be the guy that fits with Evans the most. He just might be too unpolished to contribute right away.

I agree with RPA, Petrie needs to have about 5 options on the table as far as picks, trades, etc go. Minnesota might screw us like we screwed them last year taking Tyreke.

Cousins can post and step out to 17, he said he was always in the post at Kentucky because thats where Cal told him to be.

We need a second option and Tyreke needs to learn to play off the ball a little. An offense entirely based around Tyreke just won't work. Hell--an offense based around Lebron doesn't even work. You need other legitimate options and a real low post option is HUGELY valuable. Cousins would be a big dose of what this team needs.

There is no way we could get Collison And #11 out of #5, no way.

While Cousins is my expected and prefered pick, I'm praying Whiteside dominates in order to give us a strong, sturdy, not-Monroe backup plan.

I actually see a very wide way, Cousins is supposed to be there at #5, and if this is the case, Collison an #11 is a bargain.

I think Minnesota is pretty firmly committed to Johnson, the draft hinges on 5th overall.

This, unless you also give something else up (Garcia? Greene?) take back some terrible contract, and even then doubtful.

What's the buzz you're hearing on Whiteside?

Why is Sacramento bringing him back for a second workout?

And why is Monroe's agent letting Monroe work out against Whiteside when he originally said he wouldn't let Monroe work out against anyone but Favors or Cousins?

Any juice?
