how old is he now, 28/29? i know he's a great teammate and has been a leader on the floor, but considering where he was drafted and the progression of his game...how long before we consider him a bust? i look at this roster and what rotations we can use and i keep forgetting that francisco is on the team

Well he was drafted in the 20s and been injured a lot. I really wouldn't consider him as a bust.

Not really.
We drafted him as a junior in Louisville. He was like 23 years old as a rookie. Now he has 5 years under his belt, he is considered as a veteran.
...
He isn't a bust. He is what he is. A three point specialist with defensive ability and passing/ball handling ability.

Cisco is great. I want to keep him. Great bench/roll player. Great leader. He will do really good this year if not hurt.

He's not a bust, he's not old either, and you need veterans on every team, actually, I don't think we have enough veterans.

Honestly, if he was healthy, I think he'd be a fantastic fit next to Tyreke. A decent ball handler who won't demand or need the ball, a very capable shooter and a very solid defender. Alas, he hasn't been healthy in quite some time. :/

Garcia is probably our most consistent three point shooter we have. I don't think we should overlook that.

Players drafted int eh 20"s that have productive careers and actually stick in the league are not considered busts.

The age thing doesnt matter, he hasnt logged in alot of games so I still think he has many good years ahead of him. He will be great next season.

Cisco's the type of player that doesn't even being to scratch his prime until he's about 33.

I don't know.
He seem to plateaued already.
If he ever improves, it will be a marginal gain IMO. That doesn't means he is a bad player, he is an excellent role player already.

I don't understand why people like to view players who are in their late 20's as hold - I mean honestly their are players who play into their mid 30's easy... you're talking about another 5-10 years .. that's a lot of years left in him.
I like Cisco - he is probably the most consistent 3 point shooter we have, I think Caspi will give him a run for his money in that area this season - His only problem is that he seems to get injured a lot and its hard to get in any kind of a rhythm when you're constantly coming off an injury.
If he stays healthy he is basically exactly what we need for a back up guard - can play good d, and hit a 3 point shot consistently. I would just like to see us get a beast 3 point shooter... someone who can help spread the offense with Caspi ... come off screens/pick n rolls and knock them down. Hopefully we can find that in the FA...

Depends on what type of improvement you think he will make. I think the only improvement he will make a truly needs to make is his consistency and playing more in control. His ceiling is that of a role player no question, but role players can still improve in some facet. Experience will be his improvement.

jj reddick does that pretty well....and his increased role with the magic this season suggests he is no longer that much of a defensive liability like he was back when he entered the league and saw garbage PT...how much do you guys think a guy like reddick would go for in FA? a fair price, and do you guys think he would receive higher offers than his value?
in my opinion we are just that type of player short from being done in the rebuilding process and basically nurturing our talent into a contender (obviously dalembert is out the door whether @ the deadline or after this season). our back up point is garcia since he's like a point forward if he can stay healthy and be more in control would be even better, so really we are just in need of 1 more player and that is the pure long range bomber that can move the great on floor w/o the ball off of screens.
beno/garcia
reke/reddick
greene or casspi
JT/landry/brockman
cousins/whiteside/brockman
assuming JT has a breakout year (which i'm counting on this year) and assuming whiteside pans out...this is a very strong 11 man rotation in 2 years!

I think we as fans have gotten so accustomed to seeing kids come into the league straight out of high school that we now consider anybody over the age of 25 as somewhat of a dinosaur. Yeah, youth is important for he future, but you can only STAY young for so long. And once the future actually COMES, you need to start letting your young players develop (in a stable system, not the coaching turnstyle that we've become so used to over the past several years) before you start talking about "bust" or trades. I mean, how does 5 years in the league suddenly make you a "veteran"? If a guy comes into the league at age 18 (hypothetically speaking), is he a veteran by the time he turns 23?
Also, who's to say that Casspi can't develop into the lights-out shooter that this team needs, with a little bit of work? I mean he DID just come off his rookie season where for a while he was in the discussion with Tyreke for ROY. Greene could potentially become adequate from distance as well. Just give em a chance. I doubt we're really going anywhere immediately next year either way, but it won't hurt to take some time to discover their potential.

^^^not that you are refering to my comments or anything. just want to say that yeah what you are saying is so true...i just saw today the thunder are talking max salary extension on durant (even though in 2 years he will be a max salary player) the dude is freakin 21 still in his 3rd yr in the league already you are talking about he's done enough to deserve max salary...cause he made all-nba 1st team for the first time in his 3 yr. career....that's so BS..... he could easily not take his team to the playoffs next year, or be eliminated in the first round for the next 5 years (cause of how loaded the west is and always will be) and not win in OKC; or get hurt and see his production drop and not ever be the same. does 3 yrs. in the league merit max salary now a days? i hate the way the media just hands over credit to players just like that. whatever happened to earning your place among the games' elite players? sweating blood for your team in order to earn your stripes? i definately don't like the way the media treats athletes today and even less the way athletes buy into it.
however, in adding reddick to the team i never intended to subtract greene or casspi or garcia for any matter...i believe they are key players in our success as a team...i just feel due to garcia's injury prone-ness and due to greene and casspi being raw and young that it doesn't hurt to have an insurance dead eye shooter that moves great without the ball and coming off of screens to knock down shots is his bread and butter (reddick is relatively young as well) instead of just having garcia greene casspi and beno as our shooters you are now adding reddick to the mix. it just adds more to our arsenal is all. and garcia can play the point so it doesn't create logjams for minutes IMHO.

Fair enough, I suppose. I think with a few more minutes, they might be able to provide that added shooting, but an extra shooting specialist probably wouldn't hurt anybody.
Although, since when does an isolated freak accident make a guy injury prone?

i guess that would be the ever growing popular attitude of better to be safe than sorry...always wanting to cover your ass so we throw out those labels just in case...but in reality you are right. one isolated freak accident does not make a guy injury prone, however he is now more likely to reinjure his wrist than he was before his injury and that should call for at least a little concern.
