Cousins should get around 4, but i think both Brock and Whiteside will get mim deals around 1 million a piece.

That should leave us around 13 million to play with.

False, with Cousins, Brockman, and Whiteside, we would be slightly under 41 mil in committed contracts.

Giving us around 17 million in cap space without going over.

Hopefully, we just use a small portion of this, on a player like Reddick (with us spending no more than say 5 mil).

I would really like to see us save money in free agency, and instead use that money on getting more big men coaches for Cousins and Whiteside. Perhaps pay Hakeem 5 mil

I think Reddick is restricted, so the odds of us getting him WITHOUT overpaying are probably low.

Also...

The salary cap is set to 58.044 million.

The minimum team salary is 75% of the total cap...

Therefore, every team must have at least 43.533 million committed.


If we want to spend the bare minimum (which I think we should) we need to either sign or trade for roughly 2-3 million more. Look at what a team like OKC has been able to do with cap space. They've accumulated a ton of assets (draft picks, rookies, future picks, etc.) simply by using their cap space as an asset. With Petrie's drafting record, if we were able to add say, 3 more first round picks using our cap space, even if they are low low picks, Petrie should be able to draft at least one solid role player.

That is pretty much what I figured. The numbers I had seen at various sites had the cap holds for #5 and the second round pick. Obviously Brock isn't counted there, but he wil not be that much. I believe that Daly had about 2 million more than actual salary (@ 12) that added as a trade kicker, but that is the difference between the 18-19 I have seen and the 17 that is probably the actual. Don't forget that some of the older estimates had the cap dropping below 50 million so they were VERY conservative.

I am just really thinking ahead to 1) the trade deadline; 2) next season; and 3) Reke and others extensiions next year after the new CBA is figured.
