T-mac? Lets give it a shot

Post#1 » by sactownK » Sun Jul 11, 2010 2:48 am

Here’s why I like Mcgrady. It's a good fit for the Kings, who need a scorer, and it's a good fit for Mcgrady, who has never had the supporting talent the Kings can provide. At 31, he’s still near the “prime of his career” and he’s a proven “lights out” scorer that the Kings have lacked. You sign a guy like Mcgrady at risk because he is injury prone. So, you take a chance on him, but if it works out your gonna win a lot of games, and he’ll resurrect his career. If not, your in the same boat you would have been in anyways. Like him or not, he’s gonna sell tickets. So you sign him for a few years until your team develops and gradually replace him with 3-4 other solid consistent starters. Then you trade him, or let him go, and get another younger Rookie or Free Agent that you can sign long-term. Buy low, sell high. It might take a lot of sweetening but if you get Mcgrady or Michael Redd you’re on the verge of contention!

I don't see Sacramento targeting T-Mac for what it would likely take to get him.

I don't think he's nearly the elite player that everyone thought he was even in his prime, and he's clearly past his prime.
He's injury prone, playing 70+ games only once in the past 5 seasons.
I think it's questionable at best the kind of influence that he might have with all the youngsters that Sacramento has.

This is a pass unless he's signed for basically the vet minimum or only slightly more.
Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed.

It would be a waste of money. I would much rather go for someone next year that will be able to grow with our young team instead of grow old with them. It is an interesting idea, but unless we could sign him for just one year at about 5 million I say its a no go.

I would much rather see Casspi and Greene battle for that 3 spot.

He's near cancer status in my opinion.

Hell no. We have a good thing going here right now, there is no reason to try to accelerate it or to push the young guys that are developing back down the rotation.

Doubt he will take the vet minimum from a bottom team when he could go to Miami and play off the bench there.

This is just a HELL to the NO!

T-Mac is just the kind of overinflated undertalented ego that we do NOT need here right now.

I don't know. Chris Webber didn't exactly have the greatest reputation in the world when we first brought him here... Sacramento is a known career rehab clinic.

And in any case, we're only talking about plugging a hole at the shooting guard position for the time being. McGrady doesn't HAVE to necessarily be a part of our long term plan, so long as he can put some points on the board for us right now. Having a Mcgrady on the floor would open things up IMMENSELY for Tyreke & Cousins to go to work. Who knows? It could also potentially open up a Big Three of our own. Yeah it's a risk, but you never take risks, 1999-2004 never even happen...
Besides, who's better out there right now that we have a ghost of a chance at bringing here?

I'd rather have TMAC than JHOW...

But that's like saying I'd rather have Herpes instead of Gonorrhea.

I'd love him on the team. Casspi and Greene are still unproven and T-Mac will help us win some games while they develop. He can shoot, he's hungry, and let's face it, we need some veterans on this team. The front office feels the same way according to all the reports regarding our interest in Prince and Josh Howard. As long as it's for CHEAP, I think he'd look great in our starting line up.

Gonorrhea can be cured, herpes can't btw, but I see your point. I rather have neither. No love without the glove Petrie!

Help us win games? What's the point. The reason OKC has such a bright future, is because they avoided crap gimmicks like this to improve themselves. Ya, signing T-Mac may help us win 1-5 games next year, but that's about it. We still won't be in the playoffs. Our team won't really be any better. It's just dumb.

Don't try to force us into contending or into the playoffs. Just be patient and slowly improve our team. We will most likely have another lotto pick next year, but that'll be an important asset for our overall team.

None of you remember TMac's agent fireworks promise few months ago? The Kings won't touch him.
