DeMarcus Cousins Ain't No Joke

Post#1 » by YC42Balla » Sun Jul 11, 2010 8:10 pm

Here's an article I read (and found to be pretty Interesting), on SacTownRoyality.com by Ziller.

--After reading this, and watching a few of Cousins Summer-League practice vid's on Kings.com ...
It's got me thinking, he's the real deal hu? He's really training hard, I wait to watch him play against Detroit tomorrow!!

I checked out Summer League practice on Friday. Jason Jones has been to them all, so check out his reactions.

At Friday's practice, one thing stood out to me.

DeMarcus Cousins is not playing around.

Star-divide

He owned the paint during the five-on-five drills and scrimmages. A lot of great rebounders do their work with positioning and hands. Guys like Kevin Love, Jon Brockman and even Carlos Boozer move laterally and fight for rebounds which essentially become loose balls once they fall below the rim. Cousins can do that, and came up with plenty of rebounds in what were effectively scrums, especially during a five-on-five drill in which a coach fired up an errant shot and the 10 players fought for possession.

Yeah, this makes me really want to watch tomorrows game! If Cousins comes out determined and driven, the sky is the limit, really.

Lets not get to excited, this is just practice/drills and summer-league. I guess it would be fair to say that if he is going to be a great NBA player, he will have a great summer-league. But I would not go as far as to say if he does have a great summer-league he will be a great NBA player. Practice/Summer League and the regular season are 2 different things, much like the regular season and play-offs are 2 different things.

I have also been watching numerous videos on you-tube before/after he was drafted. During his college career, and the ones on the kings website. And the more videos I watch, the more I like him - he seems like a great personality - he likes to have fun, but on the court he is all business - also it seems like him and whiteside are getting along great - this could prove worthwhile in the future once they both assert themselves as our starting pf/center.

I can't wait until our next summer-league game, I hope he performs well.

Pretty much. Having a bad summer league doesn't necessarily mean too much, some of the best players in the league have struggled in summer league. Look at Casspi last year, he looked horrid during summer league but as soon as the season started he was kicking butt and turning heads.

I think Tim Duncan did really bad in the summer league as well.

I'm still excited for this game tomorrow though.
