you guys are going to be ridiculously good in a few years
I'm not a Kings fan, but the amount of good young players on this team is incredible. I don't know your entire roster, but as far as I know everyone on the team is deserving of at least 10 minutes a game. Getting Cousins was great, and the idea that 32 players were taken ahead of Whiteside blows my mind.

Re: you guys are going to be ridiculously good in a few years
Thanks. I think Kings fans are excited as everything is starting to come together. Having a front court of Thompson, Landry, DMC, and Whiteside will be awesome for years. Greene is really starting to show his potential (a 6'11 athletic guy that can play sg, sf, and pf, hit three's and play defense) he is going to be awesome. Casspi showed he definelty belongs in the nba as a rookie last year (probably the 5th or 6th best rookie) and well Tyreke will be rekeing havoc for years. Garcia s the inspirational leader/glue and Beno is more than adequate for now he actually plays very well with Tyreke. Then you look at the fact we have a decent trading chip in Dalembert and have a good chunk of change to spend in the future as we are under the cap. WE prolly wont be a playoff team this year but we will be fun to wtch and will be contending in a couple years.

i think in 2011-2012 we will be very scary. I think Cousins second year will be incredible. Evans should be an all-star by then. Hopefully Whiteside gets stronger. We will have cap enough cap space for somebody really good. I can go on and on.

We're excited, it's the 1st time since 2004 that think the Kings have the major pieces and the cornerstones for a good team, need to see how things play when these players learn to play with each other.

Could be nice in the long haul but I doubt this team makes no improvements from here on out.

If your team is just a crappy team, then whatever. But I think this team has enough quality pieces installed to where tanking is no longer an option. It's about time we started to encourage more of a winning atmosphere and let our talent blossom to its fullest potential. I see no reason why we can't at least CONDEND for a playoff spot this year. At this point, I think another top 5 lottery pick (meaning bottom 5 winning %) will be a disappointment and a complete waste of a perfectly good season. The losing mentality needs to go. The draft is supposed to help teams rebuild with fresh new talent. I think we have enough young talent with which to start building a contender. Besides, something tells me that there's only so many times one team can keep getting lucky in the draft, despite the league's greatest efforts to thwart them...

agreed. Its time we start winning some games and learn how to finish in the 4th quarter. This team will develop better if its winning games. at this point in our rebuild we dont need a top 5 pick.. let Petire work his magic 10-20

In a perfect world we just miss the playoffs and get lucky in the lottery next season. I see the potential but also I think we have a long way to go before we're going to be a good team.

two seasons? as far as i know, this team is one lottery pick away to become a playoff team.
Rebuilding through the draft isn't a bad thing to do. this kings team was on the right direction.

Having a 3/4/5 that are at least 6-11 Green/Thompson/Cousins super tall frontline can matchup with playoff squad from the Lakers to to the Blazers to OKC. With Tyreke bringing clutchness, some clutch role players, a SG/PG in the draft and this team will be in the playoffs next year. OKC took 3 years after Durant to make the playoffs next year will be Evans 2nd.

I was really disappointed by Cousins' play in the SL. He looked like another player who would put up stats but wouldn't translate into too many additional wins. The guy just didn't play very smart and struggled to make the right basketball decisions on many plays. Whiteside, on the other hand, looked good, but I doubt that he'd get much playing time in a Reke/DMC ticket machine.
Assuming Landry does not leave via FA next season, I'm thinking a couple more top 10 lotto picks at least before the playoffs (it took 50 wins to make it to the playoffs last season in the West).

Re: you guys are going to be ridiculously good in a few years
Looks can be deceiving. Cousins looked like a superstar the first 3 games, and while playing poorly over the next 3 still had some highlight plays or near misses. That tells me one thing, fatigue was a factor. You don't just absolutely make the game look easy for 3 solid games and then drop off because you suck. The drop off was progressive which more often than not leads to more and more tired and sloppy play.

I think that is the ideal scenario this season. I don't wanna see us make any big win now moves or signings, and I don't want to see this team tank it this year. We however should rely on our youngsters to win games and learn how to be a winning group, that's the best way for us to improve as a team. Then next summer when we have a better grasp of exactly how this team fits together we can start making consolidation trades, and/or a big signing.

Again, I chalk that up to playing 6 games in 7 nights, a ridiculously hectic schedule which we haven't seen in the REGULAR SEASON since the abbreviated 1999 lockout season. We also aren't likely to see that again in the foreseeable future either, so I wouldn't worry about his summer league production dropoff unless it somehow translates to the regular season. Sure there are plenty of back to backs as well as 4 games in 5 night scenarios, but then again, MOST teams struggle in those situations anyway. Players aren't machines, afterall...
I think he'll be pretty solid once the season starts.
Also, consider this - how can you develop talent in a chronically losing environment? And how does a small market team, not unlike ourselves, attract other notable talent if they are chronic losers? How many more years can we stay in the bottom of the league before we finally decide that it's time to pick ourselves up? And it's not like we CAN'T do it right now. We have the pieces and potential. Yeah we may not make the playoffs this year, but maybe we might. You never know for sure if you don't try. I at LEAST wanna see some effort out there. In my mind, having a goal, having something to play for (playoffs), is how you get the most out of your players. Look at the 2006 Kings. There was absolutely NO WAY that team should have made the playoffs. But once Ron Artest got here, he lit a fire under the team by EXPECTING to make the playoffs. What happened? Everybody started playing better once this new goal was in sight, and eventually they made it. And they managed to make a 6 game series against the then defending champion Spurs.
I think that's the same thing we ought to do now. EXPECT this team to make the playoffs THIS year, and see how the players respond. If you stop being complacent and saying "the west is too tough" and get your competitive juices flowing instead, you might be surprised at what may transpire...

Bucks fan here. There's no way in hell I would have let DMC slip past 3rd in this draft. I think he'll be the 2nd best player from this draft. The Whiteside pick was a homerun for the second round. The Kings are going to be fine. They just need to add a true general at point so that Evans can play the two. That frontcourt is downright nasty to think about.

Re: you guys are going to be ridiculously good in a few years
Lose? I think you mean tank. Haha just playin from a GSW fan. Although I was very bitter after you guys took Cousins. Definitely wasn't surprised, Just that going from 4th to 6th in a 5 player draft is absolutely ridiculous.
I look forward to watching you guys next year with Tyreke and Cousins. I like some of your players like Casspi and Whiteside. The latter particularly because he was a second round steal and can be brought along slowly. Casspi looks like a solid rotation player. You guys have a lot of FC depth with the shrewd move to get Dalembert. Landry is a guy I completely forgot you guys had. While I don't think you guys will make the playoffs, you certainly have two players to build around with star potential. I am envious sir.
With that I hope you guys have a good season, but I hope the Dubz cream you guys after your reign of dominance over my poor franchise. = )

I'm not proposing that they deliberately shoot for another top 10 lottery pick. You should never tank it. I'm saying that DMC doesn't look NBA-ready, so top 10 lottery picks look likely. DMC looked very raw out there. Expectation is a double-edged sword. Judging from his SL play, I think the greater danger for DMC is complacency, not lack of confidence. He looked like he took his touches/possessions for granted and didn't value his chances enough on either end of the floor. Whiteside looked much more the player with the right mental focus out there.

Re: you guys are going to be ridiculously good in a few years
Cousins looked like the most NBA-ready player of the draft to me, and since he wasn't fighting for a roster spot and it was summer league, he was probably trying things that he wouldn't normally do during a game. He also showed a lot of heart to me, playing big minutes in every game of a 6 games in 7 nights schedule. Cousins wants to prove the haters wrong, and I'm sure he will.
