Would Kings fans be open to a Nelson/Landry swap?

Post#1 » by Cigamodnalro » Sun Jul 25, 2010 2:33 pm

Just playing around with rosters right now....how would you guys feel about a deal centered around Jameer Nelson and Carl Landry. It'd allow TE to play his natural SG more, and it'd open the door for Cousins and Whiteside to get more playing time at the big. The accompanying pieces are up for debate/consideration, but I'd love to get feedback on a deal involving those two guys.

I wouldn't mind seeing Landry go for a better fit/need, especially if Geoff were to pull the trigger. Jameer would likely be a 6th man, coming in for either Evans or Udrih. He's a bit more of a shooter isn't he? I don't see him as the passing guard that sets up plays and teammates. But with the number of other bigs we have, namely Thompson, who will hopefully show big improvement over the summer, I say this could be a fair trade (without any knowledge of salaries, years left in contract, etc.)

Until Whiteside or Cousins can prove that they can play for 20-25 minutes a game in the NBA, the Kings should not trade any of their bigs.

+1

Landry is getting undervalued because of the bigs that we picked up this summer. But, two of them are rookies. Now would be a bad time to throw Landry away. I just don't like the idea of ever really trading a big for a guard.

I LOVE Landry... BUT.... I might love Jameer Nelson a little more, I think I would take the deal, but we would have to include Beno in the trade, something could get worked out

HELL no. Jameer Nelson is the reason the Magic underperform. He's selfish and doesn't even have the talent to be considered a top 20 point guard. I don't want him anywhere near this team, let alone for our second option on offense.

are you kidding me?? how old are you? 8?

Nelson is the reason Magic underpreform... hmmm I could have sworn that Nelson was one of few players that showed up for that team throughput the playoffs, maybe youre thinking about Carter and Lewis.

He's not considered a top 20 PG??
(no order)
Deron Williams
Derrick Rose
Chris Paul
Tyreke Evans
Rajon Rondo
Russell Westbrook
Chauncey Billups
Steve Nash
Jameer Nelson
Devin Harris
Baron Davis
Aaron Brooks
Brandon Jennings
Jason Kidd
Stephen Curry
John Wall (hasn't shown anything yet)
Mike Conley
Mo Williams
Andre Miller
Raymond Felton

that right there is the list of the top 20 PGs in the league.... are you going to tell me that there is ONE PG not on that list that that is better than Nelson?? Get out of here bro...
He is top 15 for sure.

I would have to say No.. based on..

1) Nelson is a tough physical player but very skilled. I like him but his injury history the past few seasons has me wary of taking him on especially for one of our bigs.

but really the major reason is..

2) Just because we have injected new life into our Front Court doesn't mean we should immediately trade someone away. I'm sure it will happen, but I look towards the trade deadline. See who is playing well and who isn't on our team. Maybe JT regresses and doesn't look this season like we hope? Whiteside is still a season or two away from playing major minutes for us. Our Core is Dally/Cousins/JT/Landry... Whiteside is our project and should be stashed away for awhile which means we are really in no position to trade anyone away unless Whiteside learns fast and shows he needs minutes to continue his development.

LOL you seriously think Beno would start over Jameer Nelson in this scenario? I'm not that big on Jameer but give me a break he is a much better player than Udrih. As far as the trade I really like Landry and dont think he should be traded unless it becomes clear he wont resign or JT proves he can consistenly put up comprable numbers throughout an entire season. Also, we need to make sure Whiteside and Cousins can contribute long term. We will most likely end up moving either Dalmebert or Landry around the trade deadline tho IMO.

Not interested in Landry for Nelson.

It isn't bad in terms of value, it just isn't the sort of deal I would like to see this franchise make. If we were already in the playoffs this past season with a big need at guard I would look at a deal like this very differently. We have plenty of assets to find a good young guard moving forward with the cap room and a likely lottery pick, so I would rather be patient and see what Petrie can do with those assets first.

If a year or two down the road they still haven't found a good fit, that is when we start worrying about trades or free agent signings for a player like Nelson. There is a chance you don't get as good a player as Nelson or overpay someone more, but you also may pass up on a chance to use that cap room or assets on getting someone better. There is risk involved with both paths, I just think being patient is the right path for this team right now.

I wouldn't mind it Just because I think jt has extreme potential to be a really good starter. But I can almost garuntee u that jameer will be playing for NO next year in a Paul deal, and the last thing they need is a pf considering David west is one of their best players

The problem trading Landry isn't that JT has the potential to be a good starter, but exactly who would back up JT if he needs a rest/foul trouble/injury? Whiteside? No...not yet.

Still stuck in the same position...no backup PF. The Kings won't be trading anyone in the front court anytime soon.

I wouldn't be against it if we got a solid backup in return. Like if it could somehow work salarywise (not sure it could) to get Bass back as well, I might be down.

In any case, I'm not sure why Orlando necessarily does it. I'm not a huge Jameer fan (and wouldn't trade both Landry and Beno for him for sure, since I think he's a minimal upgrade over Beno at best), but if he's gone, Duhon is their only PG. I mean if this is assuming they get CP3, that's one thing, but then who knows what they give up to get him?
