Kings hire Otis Hughley

Post#1 » by SacTown Kings » Fri Jul 30, 2010 1:51 am

According to the wiretap we hired DMC's high school coach. Looks like we found DMC's babysitter.

I understand this move, but in a way it kind of seems like we're already catering to the needs of a draft pick who is unproven. I hope this was the right choice, at least we'll have someone on the team that has worked with cousins before and has his respect.

Ya I don't really get this move. It seems like someone with a little more NBA experience would be preferable and bring more to the table. It also shows that we are concerned about DeMarcus and his attitude IMO but hey hopefully it works out and Hughley can keep him in line. Too early to tell.

The way I see it, you do what you gotta do in order to get your players to develop and perform well. If You guys have noticed we brought brockman in to make hawes happy, we brought thompsons little brother in for a look but as of yet haven't brought him to the team, and we went out to get an assistant that would help with cousins transition to the NBA. These little things make a big difference and I'm all for it. Players remember this stuff when signing extensions, and it doesn't hurt the organization to do these things to try to have the best chance to succeed.

Apparently this guy has a pretty good rep as a big mans coach so I'm cool with it. Good for Cousins to have a familiar face and even better for the Kings to have someone who knows Cousins really well.

Yep! This screams DMC needs a baby sitter. I'm fine with this. IMO why not be proactive instead of reactive?

This is a very underrated move in a fan's point of view. But this move can be very beneficiary for both Cousins' development and the Kings' success.

I love this move.

We now have someone that has prior knowledge of Cousins. With this addition, Cousins will have Hughley, Shareef and Walton to talk/work with.

Sacramento is an absolute perfect situation for Cousins.

Well, from what I have seen about his background, it's not like the guy doesn't have some experience to bring to the job. He's had NCAA assistant coaching experience (Wright State, Liberty and Southern), has been involved with the NBA China program and has been involved with Pete Newell's Big Man Camp: http://www.petenewellbigmancamp.net/campstaff.html

It seems like he does have some legitimate experience when it comes to developing players. I wouldn't rule out the whole "babysitting" angle...but I've spent so much time being cynical about so many other things in my life lately that a shot of optimism on this might just be the right thing.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

if thats the case, hughley isn't a good babysitter for cousins, he's not as strick as calipari. hughley was cousins coach in leflore who allow cousins to play his perimeter game too much

on the court or off the court, he's not good for cousins

calipari is the perfect adviser, consultant or babysitter for cousins, on the court and off the court....

You know this how? I think I will give the benefit of the doubt to Petrie's assessment of him over yours.

It will take a lot to even get Cal to come to the NBA as a Head Coach, he isn't going to come as an assistant, adviser, or anything else.

Let's also not forget that Petrie did the same exact thing when we traded for Webber. He hired one of Webber's old coaches to help keep him on the right track, and it seemed to work. I am sure that is part of why Petrie decided to consider this.

Yeah, the only problem he has is he gets frustrated very easily and when he does he can totally take himself out of the game.

we all know coach cal isnt available, but the kings can find a strick babysitter like cal to help cousins maturity on the court, not a coach who spoiled cousins, when cousins transfered from Leflore, he becomes more head case on the court under that coach.

^^^ok...let's not forget who the actual coach really is here. hughley is there just in case DMC misunderstands where coach is coming from on a given situation in which him and coach don't see eye to eye (it'll be easier to communicate w/ him if we have someone in the staff that already has his ear)...who ever said hughley was going to take over is high on shrooms and needs to come back down and see things as they are...good signing in my opinion.

nobody said that hughley will be the coach. its obvious the job is baby sitter or adviser. is hughley a good adviser when cousins becomes madman during the game? i don't think so. cousins wont listen to anyone when he was mad or upset even to hughley, unless you have a guts to yell on his face when you talk to him. cousins is one of a kind, if you want him to motivate when he was upset and out of controll, coach must know how to yell on cousins face. yelling on his face motivate cousins, strange but its true. if westpaul can't do that, they must hired a boby knight or calapari type of personality who can do that to handle cousins madness and to motivates him. hughley and cousins will bond off the court but when cousins was upset during the game, hughley will be useless, if you talk to him nicely he wont listen to you.

one good thing about this hughley sign up... it shows how important cousins to kings brass.
