Character Issues?

Post#1 » by RookieWall » Tue Aug 3, 2010 4:51 pm

Why do people think that someone not liking interviews means they have character issues? Cousins was praised by his coach for being a great teammate and passionate about the game, yet the media spins it to where he's a headcase. Unbelievable.

Here's a link that shows DeMarcus in a more genuine light, making a family's day at the UK basketball camp:

He told Olivia he’d be back for her on her 18th birthday since she was wearing a “Future Mrs. Cousins” t-shirt.

People just want something to write about, when I heard we might get cousins with the 5th pick overall I was shocked - I then started hearing about his attitude problems and what not - so I decided to go watch some videos of cousins on you-tube. After watching tons of videos I just knew these story's about cousins problem with authority and his attitude problems had little or no truth to them. He seems exactly how those who know him best describe him as, quiet and just a big kid... if hes not quiet he seems to crack jokes or do something goofy... I think he'll be a great teammate and roll-model for kids , not to mention one of the best big men in the nba, if not the best.

They don't really have character issues, but apparently the media doesn't like being blown off for an interview. They get mad that you won't give them a story, so they MAKE one at the expense of your reputation.

I, even now, still have my concerns about Demarcus. I don't think there is anything wrong with not liking interviews. I don't know how any player could like them. But players also have to grow up and realize it's part of the territory and it's just something they have to go through.

Still needs to get his pouting issues under control. Those already came out in summer league.

Yes, since having a fiery attitude on the court obviously indicates you'll end up in jail. Oh, and driving fast indicates that you'll be a serious problem child. Since, you know. Both of them are under drinking age.

Seriously. I'm not worried about it. Westphal won't take any **** (as Hawes learned) and he delt with some guy by the name of Sir Charles before. Until he proves otherwise, Cousins should be a cakewalk compared to Charles.

I'm slightly more concerned with Tyreke driving a car during a drive by shooting. He comes from a tough city and tough situation. Hopefully he distances himself from all that.

That said, it has NOTHING to do with on the court and he is a phenomenal talent.

With Cousins, I think he's just a big kid (like Shaq with less media savvy). I think he'll be just fine too, and wouldn't be shocked to see the Kings have back-to-back ROYs.

It was less him driving a "get away car" and more him sitting in front of his cousins house when a guy start shooting. And then his cousin pops the guy. I mean, come on. How many of us, if we were in the drivers seat woulda not done the same "Oh HOLY ****" and punched the gas?

He distanced himself enough by going to the police and testifying against his cousin.

Oh, and if Hawes getting traded is apparently a determent to Westphal's coaching, I think it's more a determent to Hawes' lack of ability to do anything this team needed him too. :P

My main concern with Cousins isn't his attitude (until something happens, it never SHOULD be) but his conditioning - I mean, not too worried about body fat, but he got too tired too quickly in Summer League.
