A mural of Omri Casspi in Sacramento was defaced with a swastika on Wednesday.

This is terrible, but I don't think it'll make him want to leave. There will be hate wherever he goes. Sacramento is probably one of the most tolerant and integrated cities in the world, so it won't likely be any better anywhere else.

This is really unfortunate, but I don't think it's going to somehow convince Omri to leave. Antisemitism is a fact of life, it's not like going to any other city in the States is going to change that.
Even in Israel itself there is antisemitism,

As a Jewish person, I feel for Casspi, and absolutely wish the worst on whoever did such a stupid and antisemitic thing.
I know Sacramento (and most of California) is better than this. I can't imagine it would make Casspi want to leave more.
For an Israeli and a Jew, California is a pretty nice destination. The only destinations I could see tempting him from a religious and cultural standpoint are NY city (obviously very Jewish) and metro Detroit (the suburbs north of Detroit have among the highest Jewish concentrations in the nation).

The Jewish leader of Sacramento called him the "dumb" criminal.

I know it's unlikely, but it would be great if they found the person who did this.
Regardless, totally unnecessary.

Do you know how many swastika's that have been drawn in public restrooms and in general all over the place. I'm willing to be the person who drew it didn't even know Omri Casspi was the person he's drawing over.

Possible, but not likely. What are the chances of a swastika being drawn over a mural of the only Israeli in the NBA?

Adding to that, on the Jewish New Year as well, yeah it was a hate crime.

Well I didn't know that......so yeah, probably a hate crime.

Shameful act. What an idiot. We already have the reputation of a cow town. This is the last thing we needed. Yes there are stupid people everywhere, but they don't all attract negative press like this.

His mental toughness in his primary attribute. Don't worry guys, he will overcome this stupidity. If anything it will motivate him even more.
Happy Rosh Ha'Shana (Jewish New Year) from Israel

What is unfortunate is that a lot of people in this area do not realize that the wonderful Rocklin/Newcastle area that everyone thinks is so upscale has historically been the home to a large group of skinhead/neo-nazi types.
This is unquestionably a hate crime, and I am glad that the area Law Enforcement is treating it as such and taking the appropriate steps.

Steps to what?
1. This happened @ 16th and R, which is nowhere near Rocklin.
2. In my youth I tagged the hell out of things. You're not finding the person who did it unless there's video. Also IIRC there is a light rail station @ 16th and O? Screams kid to me. The fact the swastika is backwards goes to show you the person who drew it doesn't know the meaning of it.
3. Go to your local gas station restroom and there will be a swastika. Better yet there may be something written about another race.
4. Omri, Welcome to California! They are burning Qurans in this country as well.
I think the cat looked more like Jesus Christ in the mural and less like Omri Casspi. There was no "KKK" written on it. He wasn't threatened to his face. Nobody turned a blind eye to it. I'd like to be "poor Omri" here but there have been far worse things done to other people based on their race than a stupid kid who has dyslexia tagging a mural. I don't think this is the race incident to be up in arms over!!

You know ICMTM, I normally am very supportive of your posts here and have a lot of respect for both what you have to say AND that has nothing to do with the fact that you are a mod here.
However.
I will have to temper what I say here because unfortunately you have the power to control what actually shows to others and twist things to control my access to the site. To put it bluntly, you have little to no idea what you are speaking about no matter how educated or intelligent you are. To truly understand the meaning of this kind of action, you have to have grown up as a Jew. To have family, friends, and loved ones that were really gassed and burned in ovens. To be involved in the local and national Jewish community and to know the facts about this situation which include that - especially locally - we have experienced a tremendous upswing in anti-semetic activity since Omri was drafted and in every city the Kings have traveled to. You have to know that an expert in foreign and domestic terrorism that once worked for Mossad and then the CIA and now consults for Homeland Security is coming locally to give a talk to the community about stepping up our vigilence and protecting ourselves against the "dumb kids" and the much nastier and more ruthless persons behind them who instigate these kind of actions.
I well understand that every minority in the world has had its issues, prejudice and persecution to deal with. But if you had to grow up with the knowledge that the people who supported that symbol anihilated SIX MILLION of your brethren merely because they existed, you might have a different opinion about a foolish prank and what it represents.
The "dumb punk kids" now doing 20 to life in Pelican who burned down my Temple a decade ago were just firebombing local Temples and Synagogues because somebody taught them that it was amusing to destroy the centers of worship and learning that belong to Jews because we are to be considered somehow LESS than human.
In summary, next time you want to get on a soapbox to blow something off as no big deal or minimize that actual impact of that action in the grand scheme of things, please take the time and consideration to put yourself in somebody elses' shoes for a mile.
Most of the world would just as soon I and everyone of my religious persuasion didn't exist.

This is just absolutely terrible. Person that did it should be dragged throughout the streets by their longest nose hair.

This is truly sad. Growing up in Sacramento I know that this city does unfortunately have a lot of neo-Nazi groups and other white supremacist hate groups. In addition to the one aforementioned in Rocklin there is also a neo-nazi chapter in the community of Wilton, south of Sacramento. I don't think this will have any effect on Cassipi however because it is a sad reality within America and is not unique to Sacramento.
