DMC/Reke on the CalSTRS Building & Kings Marketing

Have you guys seen this? The Kings are actually putting a lot of money into marketing that hasn't been done in the past. My question to you is are they marketing the wrong guy? It seems like the Kings are really marketing DeMarcus Cousins and putting him out there like the guy for us.

[edit] I posted that DMC was on the CalSTRS building by himself but the sign wasn't complete at the time I had seen it. Both Reke & DMC are on it.

He's our lottery pick rookie, dumbass. Who else should they promote? Dalembert?

As much as you may feel you are smarter than me you can't call me out directly. This is a warning and I will follow it up with a PM. - ICMTM

There is alot of hype about DMC so I guess it **wouldn't** be bad to market him. The kings dont have many big names.

1. Warning. That was easy.
2. He hasn't played an NBA game. Is DeMarcus Cousin's worthy of that based on being the number 1, wait ... 5 pick?
3. We have a rookie of the year that is more deserving of the accolades than a guy who's never played a game before. The "Who else" FYI would have been Tyreke Evans, No...Wait you called me out but missed the obvious. Classic.
4. The Kings in the Sacramento era have had a ton of lottery picks. How many of them have been put on a sky scraper?

Maybe you haven't read the news much, but they're also promoting Tyreke as well ( those giant banners at Arco). They did the same thing for Tyreke's rookie year, albiet not as extreme. Maybe you just hating on Cousins?

Not at all. Nobody can hate on him OR give him praise. He hasn't played yet. That's my point. Let him earn some things. I see the Tyreke/Cousins signs on the building every day. I live near the arena. I'm talking about the oversized picture, which is as big as the CalSTRS building. You know the new building that went up next to the "pyramid" in West Sac? If you're crossing over the railyard on I-5 there is a HUGE picture of DeMarcus Cousins. If that building is 50 stories high the picture is 35-40 stories high. It's HUGE.

I know why they chose DMC. EVERYONE wanted the Kings to pick him and so showing him will draw more interest in tickets. I just don't think putting a rookie all up like that is good. If this dude busts or isn't a near all star right away the Kings marketing (or the ability to sell) may take a huge hit. Why not go with the guy who's made some history? Why not use the guy who's actually put life back into the organization?

Not only that, but they are REALLY pushing the popular notion that three teams ahead of us (four if he turns out to be like a Dwight) REALLY screwed up by not taking the next super-Center in the NBA and WE got him!

I for one am certainly hoping that he DOES turn out to be the next great thing. Not only does our franchise IMMEDIATELY vault to the top of the publicity machine for the NBA, we also have TWO franchise talents without having to do any kind of crazy fancy manuvering.

Yea I saw it, and it's pretty big. I just hope they're not putting too much pressure on Cousins too early. I have NO DOUBT that he'll be very good, but it might take some time, and adding pressure might delay it more. Market the **** out of him after a season, but not when he hasn't played a second yet.

I'd have to take a picture of it with a decent camera. I'm not sure the camera phone can see that far.

maybe it wasn't done because there were words on the bottom that were cut off and maybe Reke is supposed to be on the right of DMC? When I drove by DMC was the only player there. If that's the case then that's better, but DMC better not bust!

From what I understand, it is both Evans and Cousins will be on the CalSTRS building not Cousins by himself.

I sure hope the Maloofs know what their doing by giving that much attention to DeMarcus, who by the way...has not played a single NBA regular season game yet! I like the fact that they are trying to sell tickets, promote the Kings, etc. But come on, wait it out a little bit, we have Tyreke that we can post all over Sac.

I went by there and they are now both up. The right half wasn't up yet. There is a website like riseup.com under the photos

If you look at it closely you can kind of make out the images on the building. This was with my camera phone. Click on the thumbnail and click on the image again on imageshack and you can kind of see it better.

On Saturday the entire sign wasn't up. Only Cousin's picture was up. When I drove by yesterday it was finished.

I was reading that the Kings went about a decade where they did not really market the team. During the sellout years they didn't have to. The team is looking at ways to market the team and maybe I'm just not used to seeing players on skyscrapers. I know in bigger cities they market their teams a little different. I like it, and I know they are taking advantage of the buzz surrounding DMC. I just think that they can market the product in a way that does not put an unproven in the spotlight.

Anybody been to the team store in Arco lately? I want a Reke/DMC shirt and I want to know if they have them there.
