Like a boy in a mans league. No joke he needs work, he also needs to lose some fat and gain some muscle. I really don't expect to see his full potential until he gets more experience, so probably next year or if we are lucky the middle of this year will he start to show what he can do. Right now he just isn't doing the right things, lots of turn overs, poor shot selection, etc...

I do want to make one more comment on him. While he does need a lot of work, he has shown lots of potential. He has shown low post moves you wouldn't expect from someone his age while showing flashes of brilliance every now and then as if he already had it all figured out, I just hope he can get the whole thing together for more than a few plays or a single game.
Keep in mind I have only seen him play around 4-6 times so far, from summer league to preseason(preseason games are hard to find). So I may have only seen some of his more inconsistent games. Hopefully someone who has seen him in person can shed more light on this.

I think you were a little harsh on the first part. Had a terrible last game, there will be ups and downs for sure but one thing I have seen is flashes of potential dominance. I think you have to look at preseason as a whole. The rebounding was hit or miss some games, same with the offense, but the end result was pretty decent if not monumental production in some aspects in relation to playing time.
First he needs to get the silly foul thing under control. He certainly needs to get into better shape, although I do think using preseason games as a bench marker is tough. I'm sure they are running these guys ragged in practice so I think it's only common place for a rooke big like Cousins to fade as time goes on. The reality is though that Cousins is going to be slightly groundbound and ploddish, we knew that going into the draft and it remains true and will continue to do so.
I think the other part is that Westphal actually needs to run some type of offense that makes sense. Draw up some plays for Cousins, let him perfect those and then move on. The entire team is in disarray and that can only be lumped at the feet of the coach. If Cousins is to be a primary weapon offensively then put him in a position to succeed in relation to that. I know Westphal wants to run, but we have two players that could be halfcourt nightmares, does it necessarily make sense to run and gun?
Overall, from summer league and into preseason we've seen moments of potential stardom. That's a key thing, because I think it's pretty stupid to expect that from players can have never shown it.

The first appraisal here is kind of ridiculous. He's not walking into the league as an all-star, which almost no one does, but he is immediately the Kings' #1 rebounder, #2 or 3 scoring option, and one of our best passers. He's our second best player, now. Yes, now.
He's also a leader on the floor and has a lot of fire and competitive spirit in his game, unlike anyone on the roster. No he's nowhere near his potential and it's not obvious he's rookie of the year right now, but give the kid some credit. He has lots of room for improvement, but he's gotten a double-double in just about every game he's played in summer league and pre-season. That's not typical.
He's miles ahead of Favors who we probably would have picked up if we didn't get screwed in the lottery, so once again, our pick was a blessing in disguise. We're lucky to have him and he and Evans will be the reason this team makes the playoffs as soon as next year.

Like everyone said he has shown potential brilliance. I dont know if you guys remember against the clippers when he just blew by kaman and threw it down but that quick first step and explosiveness to the rim was very impressive. Stuff like that shows how versatile he can be once he gets some experience and learns when to do what at the right time.

He's so tough to evaluate in this way. I mean, I think you're basically right, but you hear that and then you see him on the court, and he moves with such ridiculous grace for a guy his size.
Anyway, he's been a lot of what you would expect. He's extremely talented but still very much a rookie. He needs to work on his shot selection, decision-making, conditioning and defense (both in consistent effort and awareness). Like with most rookies, I wouldn't be surprised if the team was better with him off the court this year.
But again, you can say that about the vast majority of players his age. He also shows flashes of unbelievable talent. I can't remember the last time I saw a big his age who could do everything he can (probably because there hasn't been in over a decade). It's basically been a confirmation of what we've mostly thought--there are still questions over whether he'll reach his full potential. But if he does, he easily has potential to be an All-NBA player.
