Are we too young?

The thing I've been noticing a lot lately is that we make a lot of mistakes that are simply lack of experience. Also with the reports that we are having some locker room issues I think right now would be a good time to invest in some vets with expiring Contracts.

I think those vets should be added at SF and at G if possible.

I'm thinking that maybe we should offer Houston Donte Greene for Shane Battier. They save plenty of money and they get a nice young player in Donte that could see a decent amount of playing time for them. Also budinger seems ready for a larger role. For the kings Battier will bring a strong positive locker room presence and the ability to play some very effective defense. Casspi will remain the starter but Battier will see plenty of minutes.

As for the Guard I'm thinking we offer Garcia for Hinrich. For the Wizards they save money, but they also get a very productive player that can see time at guard or forward. It will help prevent the wizards from ever playing Hinrich arenas and wall as a lineup again. For the kings this again brings in a good locker room presence the type of guard that we need and a strong defender.

If we were to make these 2 moves it would cost us financially, but it would be a huge stride forward as far creating the tone that we want to set in the locker room. It would push our team defense and the contracts are short term so it isn't locking us into anything permanently.

My new lineup looks like this
Beno/Hinrich
Evans/Hinrich
Casspi/Battier
Landry/Thompson/Jackson
Dalembert/Cousins/Whiteside

The kings clearly still need to move a front court player for a backcourt player but these moves would really help to set the tone and reduce those young player mistakes.

i dont think that houston would do the greene/battier trade.

and im not a big fan of the second trade. garcia is our leader on the floor, hes our best 3 point shooter, he plays defense, and hes very versatile. garcia is very important to this team. honestly, i would rather trade donte and a pick to boston for avery bradley. and trade one of our bigs for a vet SF that plays d and is a reliable 3 pt shooter (dudley or prince? both available)

Veteran leadership certainly has an appeal.

I like the idea of targeting Battier, but I wouldn't target Hinrich.

These mistakes are just the standard growing pains of a young team, and being young now was part of the design

The guy you should trade for in houston is a man named Rick Adelman....

Yes we are! The really young teams look good on paper, but the really old teams are winning.

^^i dont think that i want our team to get too old but these couple of moves could make a huge difference. Im not looking to get rid of young talent im just looking to add a little bit of leadership tk help set the tone.

Obviously the addition at guard doesnt have to be hinrich, i would be fine if we could just bring in a guard with playoff experience that can stress defense and be a positive force i the locker room. It could really be anyone thats been in the league for a while.

No doubt some veteren leadership would be nice, but I like where we are right now so I would be hesitant to give up some youth right now. Still at the end of the day we only need to worry about when Westphal will learn how to get a rotation that's good and consistent.

I would love to target Battier.

On a side note as I posted in another thread, we trade JT (preferably Landry but not as realistic) for Chalmers+.

Beno/Chalmers
Tyreke/Garcia
Battier/Casspi
Cousins/Landry/Jackson
Dalembert/Whiteside

Much more balanced imo, with a good mix of youngins and veterans.

Vets win, period, end of story. Never really been any different. Once and awhile you have a young-ish team shock and do really well, but win championships? Nah, not likely. We could certainly use some more vets to fill in around Reke and Cousins. I think that process will start happening very soon. Deadline and summer will be some additions I think.

Prince is quickly becoming out of favor in Detroit, might be a good idea to look that direction. Battier would be awesome and both fill a huge need for some wing experience.

PG: Evans
SG: Cisco
SF: Battier or Prince
PF: Cousins
C: Daly

I'd go to war with that lineup for sure.

Prince doesn't seem like a good influence if he's yelling at coaches...

Battier would be an AWESOME on the team. The ultimate glue guy, much like Divac was.

^^The issue with prince is that he flat out told everyone that he argues with his coaches. That isn't something that we want to establish as the norm in our locker room. I'd much rather have the consummate pro that is battier. I'm not really even worried about increasing the win total right now, this is simply about developing the culture in the locker room.

and as for Chalmers for JT. Chalmers is a complete and total scrub. IF that's the type of player you want why not just offer the cavs a conditional 2nd for Gibson i'm sure they would do that and gibson is actually a more talented version of chalmers.

I'm not a fan of Chalmers either. I mean, another scrub (Arroyo) starts in front of him, so yea...

I wouldn't mind adding battier or Prince to the team depending on the offer. I don't think Prince's argument with the coach will be a issue but at this point I think it'll be better for us.

As for Chalmers for Thomspon. No thank you.

He said that he's done it in the past with all of his coaches. :-?

^^we absolutely do not need to set a trend of arguing with the coach. Prince is a no go, battier is the guy for us.

Greene has no value compared to Battier. That deal doesn't happen and I'm a Kings fan. From Houston's perspective, they in effect made room for Battier when they traded Ariza, and now you want to give them someone they traded to us for Artest, when he, Greene, had more value than he does now (i.e. we've seen what he can do in the NBA and it's not much). Just playing devil's advocate here--from Houston's POV that deal is a joke and doesn't consider their needs.

I agree with those saying that we could use a couple of vets, not scrubs either. Productive vets that can give you either scoring or defense or both! Whether we will try to pursue one closer to the Feb. deadline will remain to be seen. Battier would be ideal for this team, a three that can play excellent defense and hit the occasional three.

I hate to tell everyone, but MOST PLAYERS DO! If you've ever been near the bench at a game you might be surprised at what you hear.

Sources tell me that Battier once dropped an F-bomb in the presence of his coach. You sure you want him over Prince?

C'mon, these are human beings, like I said about Cousins, if players aren't getting hot with things are going down the toilet then you REALLY have a problem. Change of scenery could be really good for Prince. Prince is also more talented than Battier by a long shot, and those facts have to be considered. Battier would suffice however and might indeed be the better fit.

Yea, true, but it seems to be a real problem with Prince. Battier is one the classiest guys on the planet, and would set a MUCH better example. Prince is more skilled, but that's not this team's problem. We need leadership, and Battier is way more qualified.
