time for a big change.....

Post#1 » by king125 » Fri Nov 26, 2010 5:07 pm

I can barely stomach this team this year. Everything is wrong and there is no need to discuss the specifics in details. time for a change.

1) fire Westphal. He has zero clue what he is doing with rotations, offense, defense, player development, etc. He has lost this team and it wont change cause he seems pretty stubborn. Promote Ellie to coach and move on, once again.

2) play the youth. you see the Clippers starting lineup and bulk of minutes went to a bunch of rookies, sophomores, and 3rd year guys. You cant learn or develop unless your on the court. JT, Donte, Casspi, Whiteside are being destroyed. We are not in "win now" mode so why the hell is Dalambert and even Garcia getting time over JT, Donte, Omri? I dont care if we suck and lose but as long as we are getting better and giving our prospects a chance to either develop their game as future Kings or build value as future trade pieces. Cousins, JT, Omri, Greene, and Evans to start and give Whiteside a lot of minutes. You cant learn unless you play and make mistakes and are coached on how to improve. This coach obviously cant do that and our youth is being ruined in the process.

3) get rid of Landry and Dally. Landry is an UFA next year and WILL NOT SIGN here next year. I bet he is so miserable right now and will not sign a long term deal with a franchise that is this messed up. Plus long term he is not our answer as a starting PF. maybe 6th man, but we are not gonna spend bank to convince him to be a bench player and he will never be big enough to be an effective PF on a contending team. Dally is just waisting our time here. He is only a decent starting center when he is playing on a team that has an absolute killer scoring machine of a PF. He would be great in Dallas where his one dimensional game can work. Move both these guys for a young and talented undeveloped PG or SG and give him minutes.

4) start scouting for the draft :o

i usually dont even bother to sign in, i just read what other people post... but for this post i decided to just to stress how much i second this... wow! fire westphal please... hes a huge confidence killer for guys like omri, JT, and greene... because they never know when theyr gonna get big minutes or just get benched, and theyre constantly worried about keeping their minutes

I agree completely. Fire Westphal, Trade Landry/Dally, get some draft picks. And give our young players some playing time!! Damn-it..

^^i think its close but we do need to get some key vets in place to help guide the team. Im fine with making some trades and getting rid of landry and dalembert. I would like to may add daniel gibson who would be a good fit with tyreke and beno. Trade dalembert for a locker room vet on an expiring and a nice pick. Im ok if we want to fire westphal but we need to get a coach who knows how to handle a half court offense because that is obviously what we will be most successful with. Jeff van gundy would be perfect.

with comments like "This was the worst holiday game ever" and "Westphal should win COY because this team won 4 games" I think a big change is necessary.

It's not an over exaggeration, but when you see the way the team is playing it makes you think it's just that bad.

Honestly, I think everyone here is seriously overreacting. We had way too high expectations for this exceptionally young team, and it's obvious it's a seriously incomplete team.

I'm never in favor of firing a coach midseason anyways, it doesn't help the team WHAT so ever, I might not agree with all of Westphal's decisions but I still trust him more than I would his assistants, and I'm not for blaming him for every mistake. The only help I see coming to this team is in trades.

IMHO -

1. Keep Westphal to the end of the season at WORST, give him two whole years to make his mark, then visit the idea of replacement -
2. Find a SG/PG who is a good complement to Tyreke, AKA outside shooter who can play on and off ball
3. Accept that Tyreke NEEDS the ball to be effective
4. Let this young team grow up.

So expecting a better season than last is overreacting?

So 11 games in is a fair representation of a season as a whole?

We're in the easy part of the schedule and we appear to be only getting worse. To expect it to get much better is hopelessly optimistic.

I would have been with you on "everyones overeacting" thing - if we had some direction and actually saw a path!

But we don't.. I mean we're just wasting our time with Westpall, he doesn't really build anything in this team, just simply wastes his and our time.. simple as that.

I mean if we look at the Thunder, even when they lost they knew where they're going.. we don't have that - and thats all on coach.

Typical hyperactive overreaction to blame everything on Westphal. Yes, changes are needed. The changes needed, though, are to bring in the right players and to bring in some veteran experience. Westphal can't do much when he's got nothing to work with. If deals can't get done to bring in the right players, then maybe the drastic thing that needs to be done is to fire Petrie.

And for those screaming that the team needs to make yet another coaching change...whining that the franchise needs to have its 5th coach in as many years...all your asking for is a continual spiral into obscurity and an invitation for contraction. Continuing the revolving door in the coaching slot tells every other coach that the Maloofs are jokes that are unwilling to stand behind their coaching staff. They will have zero ability to recruit any other coach and would be left with having to way over-pay for any coach and/or be stuck with desperate dregs of the coaching pool. The only reason they have Westphal right now is because they couldn't get anyone better. Firing will only guarantee a downgrade in coaching.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

every game Westphal coaches is another game that JT, Omri, Donte, Tyreke, DMC, and Hassan lose valuable opportunity to become better NBA players. Which guy has improved under PW? none they are all worse. Demarcus looks worse then he did in college or pre-season. JT, Omri, and Donte all look worse then last year and they have had over a year with this coach so its not like they are not used to him. Tyreke has not developed one bit since last year, a little better junp shot, even though he made those improvements on his own in the summer. Even Landry has taken a major step backwards.

We dont need vets to come in and guide these guys. You learn to be a pro by playing the damn game. Vets will only take minutes away. I am all for firing PW and I am almost ready to turn on Petrie soon as well. The Hawes/Dally deal better have been about cap space and moving Dally at the deadline. He is wasting our time here. We dont need one dimensional players. Look at the Celtics and Lakers. Every player can play offense and defense. This team needs a GREAT coach or our potential Superstars (Evans and Cousins) will never reach that level and will be a waste.

I think the problem is, and maybe Lightning is touching on this as well, is that it's not so simple to say "well we just expected the team to show a little improvement". There was post after post and thread after thread by people expecting this team to make the playoffs. These people who for whatever reason had their expectations raised in the offseason are now coming back to reality and having mental breakdowns.

Where are these posts predicting playoffs? I don't remember reading a single post by a Kings fan predicting playoffs. Most of us, including myself, predicted 30-35 wins, which is perfectly reasonable. Right now we're on pace for 23 wins, less than last season. We were embarrassed by the T-Wolves and Clippers. Something is wrong!

And that right there is the key. Go out and win 18 games, I don't care! I want to see development individually and as a combination from the two cornerstones of this franchise. I've yet to see ANY. That will determine the fate of this team both long term and short term.

I don't agree with sandbagging the coach at every turn but this is seriously starting to look like a team that has no faith in their coach. Sounding like one too.

BS. This team has a ton of talent to work with. He's just not working with it. No, it's not entirely Westphals fault, and as always, I don't know what his orders are from up top. Develop or win at all cost? Either way, he's failing miserably right now.

Ime Udoka's recent comments couldn't have been more timely if there was any question about what's going on here. I don't care who the coach is, any coach that doesn't realize what this team needs to do and how to base it's offense, bad, good, or indifferent needs to have his brain checked. Our coach isn't going to bring this team out of it's obscure existence, but the coach sure can insure it's own doom.

As for the veteran idea. I agree, and there should be some possibilities there that make sense this deadline or in the summer, but this is a group of players that have no idea how they are supposed to play. If that persists it doesn't matter who you bring in, they're destined to fail. What are they supposed to do come in and coach the team? If so, double up their pay and fire the guy collecting the pay check for the above mentioned title. This current issue transcends personnel issues and it's very clear from the evidence put on display as of late.

Let's be fair, we were lucky to even win our first 3 games. If we don't come back to win those games, and instead MAYBE win the Hornets game (the closest game we had a chance at winning that I can remember recently), we'd have 1-2 wins right now. Would the "let's give Westfail a chance" people be signing the same tune with a 1-10 record? 2-9 record?
