"Hassan Whiteside has been assigned to team's D-League affiliate Reno Bighorns, according to Coach Paul Westphal."

According to Twitter Whiteside is going to the D-League. My only question is: Why wasn't this done earlier?????

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Why sit him on the bench and waste his talents. I'm glad this move was done. I just hope we can get a trade in soon (Dally, Landry). And then hopefully, he can come back and get some minutes off the bench.

I asked this as well and someone told me that some coaches feel more comfortable teaching the player themselves instead of another team teaching the player.

Petrie has also historically had reservations about the D-League. Pretty good assumption that he would want to keep his players close to home as much as possible. Also, Petrie is not exactly the biggest fan of coach power point. Can't imagine him being too eager to expose one of his players to Musselhead unless he was pretty desperate.

Does Whiteside still take up a roster spot if he's in the D-League? If not, and with the waiving of Wright, that leaves with 12 players, correct?

I think Petrie realized that with all the drama that happens during practice, it isn't the appropriate place for him to develop. I just hope Musselmoron doesn't screw him up.

That team is like the Kings Summer League team: Whiteside, Sloan, and M. Landry. Does he get to start since he is from the NBA?

He might start and play around 25 minutes since there is no center on the roster

Whiteside made his D-League debut with the Reno Bighorns.

Whiteside had six points and four blocked shots in his debut. Whiteside also picked up five fouls in 13 minutes.

Ouch, 5 fouls in 13 mins...but 4 blocks in that same amount of time is pretty impressive.

For those wondering how Hassan Whiteside is doing in the D-League, let's just say, it's been interesting. In three games off the bench for Eric Musselman's Reno Bighorns, the lanky rookie is averaging 5.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 12 minutes. Friday night against visiting Rio Grande Valley, the Kings' second-round pick scored six points, grabbed six boards and blocked five shots - intriguing numbers except for the fact that he fouled out in 13 minutes. (Several members of the Kings organization were present to check up on their second-round draft choice). Whiteside isn't thrilled with the assignment, but he needs to play. Those D-League bus rides and hotel accommodations can't be all that bad. Can they? Hassan should just follow the example of Donte Greene, who was sent over to Reno during his rookie season, embraced the move, had an immediate impact, and was back in Sac in less than two weeks. And by the way: the Bighorns are 7-1.

Holy ****, he actually stayed in the game for longer than 15 minutes this time! :D

But really, 8 blocks? Damn...I wonder if he leads the D-League in blocks now.

Because Whiteside has so far averaged 6 fouls in about 12 minutes and hasn't shown he can consistently have this kind of performance? And remember, that stat line is againse D-League talent...which is basically glorified Summer League. It's foolish to think D-League stats will translate into a similar regular NBA stat line.

I would bet just from watching Whiteside in college that his blocking numbers would probably surpass Daly's. Daly gets more rebounds though, and understands the game much better. But as always, if we're going to suck, I'd rather suck with the young guy getting some real in game experience than a guy that's tapped out potential wise. You never know what can happen, we know what will happen if we just stay the same, and it ain't pretty. I wouldn't mind seeing a preview of our potential frontline of the future with Cousins/Whiteside. Give us something to get excited about at least. Right now he's blocking at nearly a 12 per 48 clip. D-league or not, that's just insane.

I don't understand why Whiteside has averaged less than 10 minutes a game the past 3 games (10min, 7, min, and 1 min)...we could give him those type of minutes in the NBA. Foul trouble was not the issue either.
