Get Sacramento into the 2012 Playoffs

Post#1 » by deNIEd » Thu Jan 6, 2011 11:13 pm

We haven't had a thread for random rebuilding/contending/team plans lately.

So here's the challenge.

What would YOU do if you were playing GM.

Guidelines/Assumptions
1) Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins are untouchable for this season and offseason.
2) Paul Westphal will keep his job until the end of the season, in which you may replace the coach.
3) Sacramento will have the 2nd and 32nd pick in this years draft.
4) Sacramento will not exceed $55 million in team salaries by the end of the summer.
5) The following players will not sign with Sacramento this offseason
Al Horford, Joakim Noah, Carmelo Anthony, Marc Gasol, Wilson Chandler,Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Kenny Thomas
6) The following players like their current team situation and thus Sacramento will have to overpay in order to sign
Jamal Crawford, Kendrick Perkins, Tyson Chandler, Caron Butler, Eddie House, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Jeff Green, Nenad Krstic, Goran Dragic, Jason Richardson, Grant Hill
7) Hassan Whiteside will still not be NBA ready and limited to under 12 minutes a game
8) Donte Greene does not substantially improve from this year and is not a NBA level starter or 6th man
9) Tyreke does not drastically improve his jump-shot in summer 2011, his progression will likely be similar to summer of 2010's progress.
10) Tyreke will sit out from February til the end of the season. He is 100% healthy come October 2011
11) Casspi and Thompson have relative improvements compared to the past few years.
12) Sacramento MUST be a playoff contender next season. Sacramento must be around the 7th-10th seed.

What does your roster look on October 1st, 2011?

If we had a starting linup of brooks, tyreke, ariza, love, and cousins going into 2011-2012 i would be the happiest kings fan i have been in a long time. Realistically though I am hoping for brooks in the off season. I think our best/only chance at an all star player is via trade. Anyone besides tyreke and DMC are tradable this summer IMO.

it was the minimum requested by brooks....I think his worth is about 9/10 mln for year considering other contracts

Step 1 NBA draft:

2nd pick: Terrence Jones
32nd pick: David Lighty

Step 2 FA:

Trade Donte Greene for a re-signed David West (starting at 9 million or so)

Sign Shane Battier for 3 years 21 million BYC

Sign Kurt Thomas to a 2 year 4 million dollar BYC deal

Trade Jason Thompson and Beno Udrih to Washington for Kirk Hinrich

Lineup:

PG: Evans/Hinrich
SG: Cisco/Lighty
SF: Battier/Casspi
PF: West/Jones
C: Cousins/Thomas/Whiteside

I use an AWESOME game called DDSPB2 (Draft Day Sports Pro Basketball 2) - anyone who has $30 and loves the GM aspect of NBA games, it's easily worth it - traded Landry and our first for Curry and a future for Josh Smith. Curry/Tyreke/Omri/Smith/Cousins = contender.

Hey bro,

I traded Dalembert, Landry, for Love just yesterday. (Using NBA 2k11 *find a trade*) You could have saved the draft pick!!

That would most likely be a high pick as well.

I didn't think that the OP was asking this question based on the unrealistic abilities of GM'ing in a video game - starting with the fact that you can't trade back to back picks in the NBA and continuing on to the new CBA coming up which will not allow Aaron Brooks type players to get overpaid that way.

Lol yeah. I hoped that all the rules I made would keep it more realistic, (2nd pick, unrealistic FA signings, etc.) But I guess it didn't work. Fail

I like this team. Very realistic off season. Although, I don't know if I would be okay with spending 9 mil on David West. And would you really start Evans/Cisco over Evans/Hinrich?

To many rules & to many assumptions that your speculating will & will not happen to play this game !
I agree situations & scenerios should be realistic though

I didn't read the rules, nor do I care to be too bold in what the Kings should do. So here's what I would like to see happen.

We'll keep the status quo throughout the season and roll with what we have under contract.

That leaves:
C: DMC, Whiteside
PF: Thompson
SF: Garcia, Casspi, Greene
SG: Tyreke, Taylor
PG: Beno

First I'm going to assume the #4 pick. That's our worst case scenario right now, so we'll be guaranteed a top 4 player. So let's say we pick fourth and we select Terrence Jones there for a hybrid 3/4 guy that we could use.

With our 2nd round picks I would select :crosses finger: Jimmer Fredette at #31 and Nikola Mirotic from Real Madrid(Euro stash guy) with the Bucks pick.

Next I would go out and sign Aaron Brooks. I would offer Brooks a 5 year 405million dollar front-loaded deal(first year 11 million). I don't think the Rockets match that offer.

I'd actually re-sign Darnell Jackson to a vet min. deal and re-sign Dalembert to a 3 year 15 million dollar contract 5 million each year.

Roster after draft and signing =

C: Cousins, Dalembert, Whiteside
PF: Thompson, Jones, Jackson
SF: Casspi, Greene
SG: Evans, Garcia, Taylor
PG: Brooks, Beno, Jimmer

Those in bold would be my main rotation guys.

A 405 million dollar deal for Aaron Brooks is crazy. I will no pay him 81 million a year
