Ricky Rubio

Post#1 » by Karma_Engineer » Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:16 am

It's painfully obvious that the Kings are loaded with too many shoot first players that resort to iso double teams to get assists. One encouraging exception is Demarcus, who has shown great court vision in the post at the tender age of 20. Other than that, we have a glut of iso players that can be fixed easily by a pass first point guard.

I know I wasn't the only one who was obsessed with Ricky Rubio and the possibility of resurrecting a Jason Williams type atmosphere to Arco when the draft came around. Minnesota's difficulties with Rubio could be a starting point for trade talks. We have plenty of good core pieces to offer (Landry, Thompson, Donte, Beno) and even Dalembert's expiring contract as well. We also have plenty of cap room so we can absorb some bad contracts as well if needed to sweeten the deal.

So the question is, will it be in the Kings best interest to pursue Rubio, a person who would automatically fill a ton more seats at Arco and play as mainly a facilitator, like a Jason Kidd or Nash? Who would you be willing to part with? And would Rubio actually play in Sacramento? His presence would solve a lot of problems. Thoughts please!!

Unless he can shoot (and he can't), then I am not at all interested. I'm not even sure if he's NBA caliber. He'll have an impressive game in Spain and then string together 10 meh ones.

In short, no thanks.

According to this he's playing around 20 minutes a night and shooting a 52 percent clip from the field and a horrid 21 percent from 3 point land. But I'll be the first to say I don't have a high level of knowledge on Rubio's game this year so far so I'll stop from making any errant conclusions.

Not trying to start anything, but he's only played 10 games this year so far. How many games have you watched him play in the Euroleague since 2009? And when you watched these 11 games in a row, what were you able to see in his game? Is there anything more you can add that would give me a better understanding of his strengths and other weaknesses?

I wonder if there's a board that has followed him closely as well :s

EDIT: It also looks that Rubio isn't really looking for his shot either, just by glancing at the stats. Rubio will be the unselfish passer. I don't think the Kings necessarily need Rubio to be a shooter either, we can ring in some other people to do that.

Thats the problem with him.. Im sure over half the teams in the league would make an offer for him if they were assured he would play.

If i were to sign him, i would get a confirmation from rubio telling us he would come here and then sign a extention for three years.
I would trade landry and dally for rubio

Ignoring the fact that Minnesota is unlikely to be interested in trading him at this point, I don't think it would work out. He plays passing lanes well and gets steals, but he is a mediocre man-defender that will look even worse against NBA athletes. He has a poor shot from deep. I like the leadership, court vision, and high basketball IQ, but he is just not the right fit. If the cost was low enough it would still be worth the risk, but I am sure Minnesota will not be dealing him on the cheap.

The right move for this team right now is to try and dig for a bargain on someone like OJ Mayo or simply wait for the draft. Waiting is never a popular thing with fans, but it could end up being very smart if we end up being in a position to pick someone like Kyrie Irving.

There's far too much drama associated with Rubio to even make it worth the trouble

Rubio is the euro version of Yao. Kings would probably be one of the biggest teams in euro and sales would go up big time

I think you're crazy if you think any of those "nice" pieces could headline a deal for Rubio. They aren't looking at short term gains so if you want Rubio you're going to have to bowl them over with an offer--and the Kings can't do that w/o including Evans, Cousins, or the 2011 1st rounder.

No deal out there and not worth it. We need a pass-first PG, but not really a playmaker, which is the main idea behind having Rubio on your team. Also, I just don't know if he'll be that good.

If this "PG" takes the ball out of the hands of Cousins and Evans I'm totally against it. We got a glimmer of what could be with the right system the other night. Head on that path, don't put any more stumbling blocks in the way of superstardom.

A year or 2 ago getting Rubio would have sounded sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet being a KING I tend to have to agree with the majority here I dont see RUBIO as that great of a fit for our team right now . Additionaly we dont need anymore players having more distraction & drama to the team than we already have now .

Return to Sacramento Kings
