Looks like this is the first step in Sacramento losing the Kings.

"We are looking at all options to ensure the long-term viability of this franchise".
You can interpret that in many ways. Of course the media goes with the most sensational interpretation...

It doesnt say what the question was but I would assume it would have something to do with the franchise moving?

Waiting for the cleanup "misinterpretation" statement from Maloof Sports and Entertainment in 5....4....3....
What are they supposed to say? The truth remains the same, even if they wanted to stay long term, the NBA won't allow it! They will be forced to move. The thing that scared me the most was when Stern cut out on all of this and basically gave up. That's far more telling than anything IMO.

It can go both ways . The Maloofs could easily be saying this in hopes they finally scare sacramentians & what not into what they want for a new Arena !
It's hard to say whatt hey really mean at this point as they are kind of wishy washy .

I honestly can't blame the Maloofs. They've tried a LOT of things to get a new arena, Sacramento is no longer close to selling out. Part of the problem is the product on the court, but for some reason, Sacramento just hasn't been behind the Kings ever since the collapse of C-Webb. It's sad but true. It's the Maloofs franchise, and they gotta be economically viable. I wish they could do it in Sacramento, but it just doesn't seem likely.

Joe Maloof's input:
"There is a sense of urgency because we've been at this for so long," he said from his cell phone. "We can't sugarcoat it. Everybody knows the region needs a new arena. When the NCAA (Tournament) is refusing to schedule events in Sac, you have to acknowledge that you need an entertainment venue. I can't give you a time table, but at some point, something has to get done. (Sacramento) mayor Kevin Johnson is working with four different groups, looking at four plans, and we're hoping something comes out of this. We want to be right here in Sacramento. We've always said that. It's been what? Eleven years? Rumors, rumors, rumors. I get tired of answering all these questions. Can't we just talk about how much better DeMarcus Cousins is getting?"

Applause to Joe. They may have faults but they want to stay here.

Hard to blame them. They're playing in a building that's nearly 25 years old and costing them untold amounts of revenue (from luxury boxes to walk-ups) and Sacramento seems to have no interest AT ALL in building a new arena--despite the fact that it's not just the Kings/Maloofs saying that the arena is a POS.
If you were them and you were being forced to play in (quite possibly) the worst arena in the NBA and there was little hope of a new arena in the future what would you do? I mean, at some point enough is enough. Sacramento needs a new arena.

The maloofs never denied the possibility of moving. They had always answered questions the same way: "we want to stay", "let's focus on the positives about new arena/players first", etc. I can't remember reading, flat out, that they never were opposed to moving. They have just always stated that their desire was to stay, and they would exhaust all options to keep the team here. Well, it has come to the point of years of trying and nothing getting done, so it's obvious that they would be open to moving.

Agreed 100 % In Sactown their is very little to do in comparison to L.A , SAN DIEGO & the likes to lose our KINGS would be devastating we need our KINGS just stay & get it done .

I for one can't see how anybody can either be mad at or blame the Maloofs considering they've been at this for 11 years with absolutely ZERO results and still nothing on the horizon. Hell, all we had to do was vote yes on the 0.25% sales tax increase that nobody would seriously have even NOTICED and we'd have been had the arena by now. And yet here we are paying an entire 1% more in sales tax ANYWAY, which isn't exactly going to any especially better causes (do YOU know where your tax money is going?). Great job Sacramento voters, great job... I wonder if people can still afford to buy milk for their children now?

I think most of us are more angry at the city than anything else. I know I am. This town never gets anything done, let alone the arena issue.

What's the difference if you watch basketball in a 20 year old arena instead of a new one? I don't get any of this..I don't get the players making 10 million a year. I don't get the owners selling their franchise for 450 million no matter how poorly they ran it. I don't get why anyone would expect the taxpayers to flip the bill on a new arena just so the owners can make extra money off the luxery suites..It's all crazy man. When I go to a game, I don't give a rats ass how the building looks. I'm there to watch hoops

The arena is a venue. A venue which hosts events, in order to generate revenue. This is a business, and if the venue isn't sufficient to host events and make money, then something needs to be done. They are in the capitol of one of the largest economies in the world, that hosts one of only 30 teams in the world's premiere basketball league, and they couldn't even get the NCAA in the building. Yeah, you are right: you don't get it.

http://www.businessinsider.com/how-larr ... her-2011-1*This is where I got the $150m relocation fee figure. I don't see how the Maloofs would not have to pay this.
*$69 - What it would cost the Kings to leave as they owe the city of Sac some money.
$219m...if they threw that into the stadium now as a down payment they would have had one already, and if the Maloofs could afford to move they would have by now. That's just the way I see it.
When it's on the news you're losing money left and right, and the industry you're heavily in is down, it makes sense why they need this new venue. I just don't think they can leave.

The 150 million would be a payoff/bribe to Lacob/Guber because they hold territorial rights to San Jose and the Maloofs would need their approval. San Jose is within 45 miles of Oakland.
there is no 150 million relocation fee

I sure don't..Give me a chair, a beer and let me watch some hoops! I don't give a sh*t about the arena. You people are nuts for buying into all this marketing crap and paying 500 dollars just to take the fam to a basketball game. Crazy stuff.
NBA players should make 100,000 grand a year with playoff/championship team incentive bonuses..Then we fans could afford to take the kids to 20 games a year and nobody would give a sh*t how updated the restrooms are,
