10 day countdown to determine if the Kings stay in Sac

http://www.sacbee.com/2011/02/19/341620 ... edges.htmlI cannot imagine living in Sacramento not able to go see a Kings game. This city would Officially suck (more than what it already does). I may just take a trip to Vegas first weekend of March and egg The Palms if the Kings move.. Who is with me!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Serious note: What are the odds Kings move? Personally i think its higher than we would like to believe, however If i were a gambling man id say the Kings stay at least one more year to see if a deal for a new arena can be made. After that we can guarantee its bye bye!

This very well could be my last week as a Kings and NBA fan. What a depressing thought.

It really doesn't look good at all for us. I think its a 50/50 chance they leave. It sucks because I'm graduating college in May and moving back to Sacramento. Going to King's games was something I looked forward to doing again. This is our only team I hate rooting for baseball and football teams in the bay area Sacramento is the capital and we need our own team.

How do i root for a socal basketball team? That goes against everything in my nature! Plus we would have to deal with all the "new" kings fans from socal disrespecting us like we are a red headed step child, the original fans.... this blows worse than Rosanne tossing a ceasar salad with Rosy O'Donnell

The people of this city won't truly know how badly they'll miss the Kings until they start to leave (see Seattle).

I guess I can choose a new team for NBA 2K.
But this is really sad. Give us another another chance Maloofs!

They won't file, but the public display of pressure is well played on their part and well orchestrated by whoever is handling their affairs right now. The time for the Maloofs to play hardball was a long time ago.

Oh not even close, think 10X worse. At least Seattle is still Seattle and has an NFL and MLB team to fall back on. Sac really has nothing else. If the Kings leave, all the people in Sac that think that "good riddance, I'll help 'em pack" garbage will soon realize what it's like to be a city with NOTHING to do for entertainment. Entertainment that goes way beyond the Kings.

The Maloofs while very nice people are terrible business men.
They were interested and generous in Sac when things were good.
But not so much when things are bad.
They want easy money.
Socal is easy money.
They probably need the money to pay the Empty Casino in a depression bills.
Likely they have to move to keep the Palms from failing like they ran the Kings in the ground.
I doubt it will help for too long.
But they will move to postpone their own personal financial crash.
Sac is powerless with no money to help.
It sucks for Sac, but either way they would be screwed. Pay big for a half filled state of the art arena for an owner that won for a decade, then continually shot themsleves in a foot since. Or lose the Kings.
Sucks either way.

I agree with a lot of this. No one can really say the city of Sacramento is completely blameless, but really to be fair Sac is between a rock and a hardplace. Just like it's not all Sac's fault it's not all the Maloof's either, but let's all forget the "Maloof's are great business men" bs. Over the last few years they've turned their dad's billion dollar empire into a shadow of its former self, primarily by over extending itself into their casino.
For those that want to to help

I hope it works out for Sacramento.
Arguably, one of the most supportive fan bases for a couple of decades.
Best of luck

Being a Sac Fan from The Bahamas, I must say I'll be so sad for you original Sacramento native fans if the team moves! Keep up the faith man! Hope for the best. Would hate for you guys to just throw all the years of routing for the Kings away because of a pending move. But hmm man that would suck having the Kings move to another city.

That's some bs. I'm not saying I decided to move back to Sac after graduation solely because of the Kings, but I was sort of counting on being able to afford season tickets or a handful of courtside tickets as an extra perk. Basketball has been one of the biggest joys of my life since I was born, and to live in a city lacking a professional basketball team and the easy access to live NBA games would be extremely depressing. We can't even watch good college ball in Sac. And hell no will I root for the Warriors and make the two hour drive. If the Kings move, I'd seriously consider moving as well--not to follow them, but just to be near any NBA team. I need my live basketball at least once a month.

We have tried for years now to build an arena...tax payers have yet to budge on the tax hikes, which isn't surprising. Bottom line is the Maloofs are broke. They would rather move then sell the team, it is really all they have left. They have already sold their dad's beer business, which made them the money they used to have. They are in the process of selling their controlling stake of the palms. It is unfortunate, but it is the perfect storm. The kings will ultimately leave...it is just a matter of when.
But it is pretty sad.
