The Maloof's silence

They've never went silent like this before. What do you think it means? That they've already decided they're moving and are waiting until the last minute to announce it? That they're not planning to move this year and are just trying to scare the powers that be into getting an arena built? That they just don't know themselves what they're doing yet? Or could it be something else like the league ordering them to be silent?

I really don’t know what to make of it. All I do know is that if they already know they’re leaving and are leaving the fans and city council hanging, hoping, and wishing like this then that pretty much makes them first class d-bags in my book.

What are they supposed to say though? If they come out and say "we're looking at options" the city residence won't back them. It would be a deal breaker for them.

Well, if they aren't planning on leaving this year, they could make a statement that they're committed to Sacramento at least for one more year, just to put people's minds at ease. If they're leaving, they might as well announce it now because it's not as if it won't still be a deal breaker on March 1st. People will just be more pissed off that they drug the whole thing out until the last minute.

After hearing that there really isn't an extension needed for relocation I think it's pretty clear as to what's happening. If in 90 days they don't like what they hear, SEE YA!!! They'll be gone by next year.

Exactly what about it would be lying?

"we're committed for one more year!"

The Kings aren't committed for one year...they are either committed or they're not.

It doesn't work like that, They're not just going to be committed indefinitely. At some point, an arena needs to be built or the commitment ends.

I think they're silent because they haven't committed to anything, whether it's Sac, Anaheim, or whatever. They're still weighing their options. It's a very tough decision to leave a market that they know they can and have made money in, but their current financial situation might force them to leave even if they don't want to, but at the same time if they know that an arena WILL be built, then the long-term benefits could outweigh the short-term benefits of relocating. The Kings in Sacramento with a new arena will make the Maloofs more money than they ever could in Anaheim.

Of course this all could be crap from the head of a very passionate fan who is in denial and the decision has already been made to move.

In a conversation with reporters after his All-Star news conference Saturday at Staples Center, Commissioner David Stern hinted that the NBA's Board of Governors could be flexible on the deadline, as reported by the Sacramento Bee

Go figure...

The upshot of all of this is that months of talks between the Maloofs and Honda Center officials have intensified to the point that a final decision is expected in March. But it's also possible there might not be an announcement until April because the Kings' regular-season home schedule doesn't end until an April 13 game against the Lakers

If the Maloofs get an extension it looks like the spineless pricks might hold off the announcement of the move until after all home games have been played. WOW! I hope this doesnt happen...

I take their silence as the start of disconnect between owner and local fan base

It'll get leaked before then. In fact it'll get leaked almost immediately once they file.

They are silent because their options aren't great either way, and any (useful) statement will be committing to one of these 2 "not great" options, either stay in Sac and continue to lose money, or go to be a 3rd team in the greater LA area and go bankrupt in a wild unsuccessful bet.

Or maybe, just maybe, they haven't said anything in such a long time because of the cold hard fact that every single time the Maloofs make any kind of public statement even remotely connected to an arena, the people of Sacramento have always and forever ripped their heads off because, "they're rich! why don't they build the stinkin thing themselves?!?", which consequently sabotages each and every single glimmer of hope for any and all arena deals ever getting done.

Sacramentans, it's time you took your share of the blame should the Kings indeed leave the city of Sacramento. You can't sit there and honestly say that the Maloofs never tried. If you guys hadn't been so damn stubborn, shooting down each and every possible arena deal based upon an apparent intense hatred and jealousy of an ownership group that just so happens to have HAD many millions of more dollars than you do, perhaps we would now be CERTAIN that they would not be leaving. Face it, that is THE reason why nobody was EVER willing to seriously work with the Maloofs on any type of deal that didn't involve the Maloofs footing 100% of the bill (which is NOT a smart business move, especially when you're not turning a profit).

Jealousy. Its the reason WHY we criticize athletes and musicians and entertainers and basically anybody who is rich and famous with such ferocity. If that person WASN'T in the position that they are in, you wouldn't even know them or give a damn (and you know it). But because they are, you hate them. You hate them because they are everything that you WISH you could be, but for whatever reason aren't. And you love to see them fail. Why else are tabloids and gossip mills so popular in this country?

If I were the Maloofs, I wouldn't say anything either. Because over the course of my 12 year ownership (and how many other owners would have stayed THIS long, given the circumstances?), I've tried to say everything that could possibly have been said, and each and every word has fallen on deaf ears. So what's the point? What's left to say? You had your chance to listen, but you chose not to. The time for talking is over. Now it's time for action. Either yours, or mine...

Apparently there is supposed to be some big news about the move tonight on FOX40...probably won't be anything that "big" (or else it would be all over the internet), but I'll check it out anyways.

P.S. this was on facebook

(Jim Crandell) If you think it's a done deal that the Kings are leaving Sacramento...you're wrong. I'll lay it out tonight, and my information comes from a Kings official.

Jim Crandell just said his Kings' source says the Kings will most likely not request to move before March 1st, but it's a possibility that they could directly after the season. Nothing really new, I guess.

P.S. He also said that someone close to the Maloofs said that nothing has been decided yet.

If in fact they are as undecided as it had been said that they are, that ought to be an indicator that they don't REALLY want to leave Sacramento. It's just the financial aspect and the lack of an arena that may FORCE them out. Obviously nobody's in business to go bankrupt. But any other owner more than likely would have BEEN gone already. I at least tip my hat to the Maloofs for hanging in for this long.

JIM CRANDELL (phillip from Galt voice) is not a good source for unfolding events. Last night in his report he didnt even site who Landry was rumored to be traded for saying something in the lines of "Im not gonna name the guy cause i dont even care who Landry is traded for" This guy is only good for reporting the news, not breaking it.. Not hatin, just sayin....

Also he called Carl Landry in his report tonight Marcus Landry, typical nightly random error for Crandell.. Met Jim at an oil change stop on Florin rd in south sac and he is a total D**k
