To keep them here they need a new stadium. Does anyone have any idea what the current costs are to build it & when could they actually finish construction if they get the money?

I've read that it would cost around 300 to 350 million and take two to three years to build.

They built a new stadium that opened in 2008 in Tulsa Ok!

Just throwing that out there.

That seems pretty low. I was thinking it would cost close to 500-600 million.

Thats more what I was expecting. But it really all depends on the scope of the project. If we get enough private support, it'll be a nicer place, hopefully.

I just don't understand how its going to be financed. In fact, nobody does or has been able to figure that out for the last 10 years. It doesn't make sense to me that some out of town group (ICON) comes here with the intention to make money (thats what they do) and the Maloofs are lobbying to get the arena with the intention of making more money.

Wheres all this $$$ coming from? Who's footing the bill?

I just don't get how an arena can feasibly get done without some sort of tax increase which I would be fine with depending how severe it was but I think the majority of people in Sacramento would resist.

Yeah, I think there would definitely need to be a tax increase, but the city of Sacramento has been hit really hard by the recession so I don't think that would sit very well with most Sacramento citizens. That being said, I think it's definitely worth a shot to at least try depending on how much of an increase is.

I asked this before and I don't think I got an answer. What's wrong with Placer County? It's probably the only county in the Sacramento that would help finance an arena.

This has been going on for way too long and no one seems to know where the money is coming from. It sounds like the NBA will not help anymore, so I can't see the Maloofs waiting any longer.

If the Kings were a big market team, I could see that as being an option, but Sacramento being a small market, I think that may be to much to ask for.

I'm not saying it should make a difference, but I'm pretty sure it does.

Theres not enough people out there. Kings fans come from all areas of SAC county Placer is really far from places to the East like Rancho and the SOuth like Elk Grove. The arena needs to be in downtown sac in the railyards IMO.

Also, in order for it to benefit the greater business community theres more potential for that downtown than up in placer.

If I am remembering correctly I think that Taylor or ICON said the actual cost to build that's been reported the last few years is pretty overblown. Anyway, we'll know the exact numbers in about two months. Might be two months too late but....

You figure that a lot of cost for building an arena would be the cost of the land and last I checked, Sacramento's land value doesn't compare to that of the bigger markets. If we're spending over $400 million, the place better come stacked with rocket ships and bullet trains.

Let's put this in perspective...

Arco cost around $40 million to build in 1988.

OKC's arena only cost $104 million to build in 2002, and seats 18,000+ at full capacity.

In contrast, Staples center cost $400 million.

They also come from all over placer county . . . well at least a good portion of it. The only thing is that its actually possible to get placer residents to help pay for it. Its a more conservative county and has a lot of very wealthy Kings fans as well. I know its not an option but I think it might actually work. Oh and Roseville and Rocklin are only 20 to 45 minutes from Rancho and Elk Grove.

You're right, it was Taylor. He said that the price tag (quoted at one time at 600 million) was way overblown. He said in an interview with the Bee he could build 2 arenas at that price.
