Here We Build

I didn't see this anywhere else, so i thought i'd bring it by. In the past 12-15 hours there has been a moment that has began that is called Here We Build, and it was started by Carmichael Dave. Here We Build is the idea that we can't wait for state government to do what needs to be done, so it is a pure grassroots effort to raise funds for a new arena. In those 15 hours, 100,000 K in pledges have been made, billboards donated, and progressive recruitment of people to continue to join the effort. If you are interested in joining, you can make a pledge by tweeting at Carmichael Dave (
http://twitter.com/#!/CarmichaelDave) or at the facebook group (
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Here-We-B ... 0218879508) if you are interested in making a pledge.
The hope is to raise the required funds to build an arena, but most everyone understands that this is unlikely. The more likely hope is to build a critical mass and force the issue. If we make it to a few million we already have a NYT article lined up. If we can force the city into making a more real effort that would be a win in and of itself. At the end of the day we want the Kings to stay, and we just believe we need to do what we can to make that happen.

I was just about to post this.

Here's the seriously flawed logic in this thing. To reach the goal it's asking at least half of the people who live in the area to make a donation. Will it work I don't know, but I don't think it will work.

Seems like a long shot but you've got to give them credit for trying. I hope this works out - who knows maybe it will gain some momentum and snow ball into something bigger that will actually help our situation...
I've been sick about the whole thing.. everytime I read something negative about the kings moving (like the 75m bond that was passed yesterday 5-0) .. just feels like another nail in our coffen.. and a dagger to the heart.. so hearing something like this is definetly encouraging.

If you think about it if we open our minds to other sports both college and pro there is a lot of promise for something else. I think the city needs to let go of the NBA however.

I'd love to see Sac State Basketball become an actual force.
How does that happen (not trying to derail the thread and I joined the FB group).

I don't want to open up to something else. This isn't about having some kind of entertainment for me. It's about keeping my Kings.
Anyway, I joined and pledged.

Would be great if we could host the NCAA tournament again.
Wouldn't mind seeing some NFL or MLS around here either.
Regardless, I joined and pledged as well.

The Kings are GONE pending a dealbreaker from Anaheim. I will pledge, but I plan on watching the Kings pack their bags after this season. They are too far gone to u-turn and come back now.

Wonder if we can parlay this movement into bringing another team to Sac. Maybe we can use the funds generated to entice other local investors to buy the Hornets from the NBA. Maybe we can become a Greenbay of sorts.
This doesn't solve the arena problem though.

I'd think bringing in an NHL team would be more likely with San Jose and Larry Ellison sitting out there doing nothing. Unless Larry Ellison wants to come to Sacramento, which I don't see that happening either.

Me too! Especially since I'm a student at Sac State. I don't see how it can happen though.

I'd rather spend the money on trying to build a new stadium for the Sacramento A's

I have been a big proponent of MLB baseball but I read an article that pretty much sums up why we won't have a team here. The other reason is the RiverCats do very well in Sacramento.
http://www.bizjournals.com/sacramento/s ... ory10.htmlWe're almost rich enough for baseball. The proximity to Oakland/SF kills it, too. As long as Los Angeles doesn't have an NFL team I think it's hard to make a case to even get one. To me that leaves NHL and MLS. I really feel soccer would do well here, and because it's not expensive to attend a soccer match families can go. There are a few NHL franchises that are thinking about moving. With a new stadium I think we look good. The Nashville Predators are possibly looking to move as well as the Coyotes and Islanders. This isn't a hockey town, but really it's not a basketball town either. Sacramento is a baseball town, but if we can't get the A's here then what do we do?

I don't see how LA not having an NFL team has to do with anything. They twice had their chance. LA doesn't seem to be the football city that some of its residents like to claim.

Because the players get too dirty and their uniforms are tacky.

I pledged $200 a few minutes ago - RealGMs users should pledge, even if it's only $5. I heard there will be a payment plan option, so no need to fret. Anything helps!

If the Kings don't stay, I think finding a way for the rivercats & A's to switch locations could make the most sense
