Post Draft Free Agent Targets

With the results of draft night, there really isn't a need at SF being that there are 5 guys that the Kings have that can take minutes at that slot, Adding Jimmer Fredette means PG isn't as big a need.
Seems like the primary slot that needs to be addressed is PF.
Thompson is the only current PF on the roster.
Dalembert isn't a guarantee to be resigned, but Cousins & Whiteside should be able to handle things at Center
I'm thinking that one potential target might be Glen Davis

My #1 option for us is Nene. The man is basically a Beast. Pair him next to Cousins and we will bully the paint every night!
Option #2 is David West. Hell of a player. It was recently reported he will test FA. Signing West would spread the floor and add Vet leadership for Cousins.
IF the Kings can get a player like Nene or West then im perfectly fine working a S&T with Dally + Garcia for L. Fields + 2012 2nd
Evans /Jimmer / Thomas
Thornton / Fields
Salmons / Casspi / Honeycutt / Greene
Nene / JT
Cousins / Whiteside

I don't think Nene would want to come to Sacramento

. If he does, he would probably take the money and not play to what he is capable of.

I'm good with that list, but Wests knee is a scary thing. I think he'll be fine and it shouldn't effect him as a player much considering how he plays but it's still an iffy situation. Also another guy wanting and needing shots. Might be a tipping point.

Overpaying by a lot (and a pipe dream since Maloofs are cheap bast***s), but I would go with the following routes
Route 1
FA #1
Marc Gasol ($14-15 mil Front Loaded)
Chuck Hayes ($5-6 mil Front Loaded)
Marcus Thornton ($5-6 mil)
PG: J. Ferdette, (Vet Min), (Vet Min)
SG: T. Evans, M. Thornton, F. Garcia
SF: J. Salmons, O. Casspi, D. Greene, T. Honeycutt
PF: D. Cousins, C. Hayes
C : M. Gasol, J. Thompson, H. Whiteside
Route 2
Greg Oden ($8-9 Front Loaded)
Chuck Hayes ($5-6 Front Loaded)
Marcus Thornton ($5-6 mil)
Wilson Chandler ($6-7 mil)
PG: J. Fredette, (Vet Min)
SG: T. Evans, M. Thornton, F. Garcia
SF: W. Chandler, J. Salmons, O. Casspi, D. Greene, T. Honeycutt
PF: D. Cousins, C. Hayes
C : G. Oden, J. Thompson, H. Whiteside
Route 3
Not sure yet
Big Money Targets
-Marc Gasol
-Greg Oden
-DeAndre Jordan
-Nene
Vet Targets
-Chuck Hayes
-Shane Battier
-Andre Miller
Other Targets
-JJ Barea
-Aaron Brooks
-Wilson Chandler
-Jeff Green

My ideal free agent pick ups would be Marc Gasol & JJ Barea. But with the success of the Grizzlies and Mavs I don't see either team letting them go. Nene will cost too much and I don't see him having interest in coming to Sac. I wouldn't mind DeAndre Jordan but I think Sterling and the Clips will resign him to play along side Griffin. Greg Oden's qualify offer is over $8 mill & his injury history scares me. Too much money for a gamble. I like Luc Mbah a Moute but I think the Bucks will match any decent offer.
My free agent targets are Chuck Hayes and Aaron Brooks (if we can get him on a reasonable contract).
Use our cap space in trade to land Paul Millsap.
Jimmer Fredette/Aaron Brooks/Isaiah Thomas
Tyreke Evans/Marcus Thornton/Tyler Honeycutt
John Salmons/Francisco Garcia/Donte Greene
Paul Millsap/Chuck Hayes/Darnell Jackson
DeMarcus Cousins/Jason Thompson/Hassan Whiteside
My Dream (Reasonable) Team!

I think one of the more realistic targets would be Chuck Hayes. We have plenty of offense, we need more defense (not that I wouldn't take Nene, just think he's extremely unrealistic).

I don't feel Brooks is necessary for ths team or worth the money we'd need to pay him. I'd overpay for Gasol and JJ, and I'd LOVE to add Battier for the veteran leadership.

I'd argue we do still need help at PG, but Brooks isn't the kind of help we need.
And are we just giving up on Sam?

I think Petrie has the backcourt he wants for now, and after re-signing Thornton will wait to see how all these guys work together for at least a full season. If things aren't working out at that point, then he will consider making a signing or some other move there.
And are we just giving up on Sam?
Many Kings fans seem to, but I haven't. There is always reason to worry you will lose a player when he becomes an UFA. but it is a little early for people to basically be writing him off to a contender when a new CBA will change the landscape to some degree.
The CBA uncertainty also seems to make it a little futile to even be talking about potential FA targets and pricetags.

Who gets squeezed out of that frontcourt rotation though? As we saw last year, when you have 4 guys deserving minutes you can't play them all. Maximize your 3 big man rotation and have a 4th (Whiteside) there for those other minutes because they provide a particular skill.

If it was up to me, and I was able to sign say Gasol + Hayes. I would look to move Thompson & Casspi with Garcia (or Salmons) for an veteran upgrade at PG or SF.
However, I would also strongly consider swinging at the fences and going for a guy like Oden. Yes he is a huge gamble, but he is the most realistically attainable piece that could push us from good to great/contenders.

Any opinion on David West?

Wilson Chandler, Kings need more sf's.
Chuck Hayes seems realistic because none of the big name FA's would probably be interested in Sac. I like David West but scared about his knee.

Only, Wilson Chandler is better than all 5 of our SF's

I waiver. Really liked him last year, and honestly, I'm starting to like him as an option again. He's clearly very talented and he'd fit right in with Cousins as a shooter and passer. Touches are a concern though, there is no way that Cousins, Evans, Thornton, Salmons, Fredette, and West can all get their touches unless they are ready to start putting trust in a team oriented system. I can't say it can't work because you look at the golden era Kings and it wasn't too different. The question is can these players adjust like those players did.
As for the knee, he was just on gametime on NBA-TV and he said the knee wasn't as damaged as they had originally thought. Wonder what that means because if he's out the normal 6-12 months that it takes for an injury like this it becomes questionable.

I think we let sammy d walk and target marc or deandre...marc doesnt need a ton of touches while still scoring very well..he plays solid d and works hard a good high character player this team needs
Deandre has a ton of potential and plays tremendous d while requiring no touches he would be a great asset to this team maybe woop cousins into shape get him on a good weightlifting program

No to David West. DMC should play with a defensive big to be the anchor. It works with Sam, if Hassan pans out as a player, it should work with him.
