Sacramento Kings: 2011 NBA Lockout

How will the lockout affect the Maloof's decision on moving the Kings to Anaheim, or any where else for that matter?

I hate to even bring this subject up - but, after reading this utterly pessimistic article by Kasey Scott, (bleacherreport.com), I can't stop thinking about what the future holds for our franchise.

Charles Barkley has already come out and said that he believes the lockout could consume the entire 2011-12 season.

Without a season, the Kings will move. Even with 50 games, it will be tough for the Kings to stay in Sacramento.

The Maloofs will not keep the Kings in Sacramento without a new stadium deal in place.

It all depends on how many games we get to play this season. If we get most of the season, and our attendace is good because our team is winning, I find it hard to believe that the Maloofs will be able to move the team. Well atleast not to Anaheim.

If all goes well with the push to get a new arena the Maloofs very well may backdown with their desire to move the team. But it will depend alot on the success of this season.

This is definitely bad because I heard the Kings sold more season tickets than last year already. Hopefully one of the sides give in!

Getting an arena built still goes beyond the next NBA season, and really it goes beyond basketball. It's an investment into improving a downtown with, IMO, a ton of potential. Sac has a really neat downtown, but there's NOTHING there. Old town Sac is cool and all but that can't be the draw of a major metropolitan city, hahaha.

The matter of them staying or leaving in is the hands of politicians at this point and the basketball season has no bearing on that.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, the 49ers plans to build a new stadium in Santa Clara are off to a very good start, having received $138 million in commitments for luxury suites at the new building.

“It validates the confidence we’ve had in the project all along,” 49ers Chief Operating Officer Paraag Marathe said, “and it shows the tremendous amount of support and confidence that our fans have for this project. One hundred and thirty-eight million is no small number; it lays a pretty big foundation.”

I wish it was that easy for the Kings :(

This.

That article is trash (it's the bleacher report, so it's no surprise). The Kings staying or leaving is entirely dependent on getting a new arena started. Ticket sales are way up, so the commitment from the fans is there. It's not the city's or the fan's fault there's a lockout.

With the new CBA being negotiated to keep the smaller market teams competitive I would have to think revenue sharing will increase and a hard cap will be implemented. These are good things as far as keeping the Kings in Sac. The financial burden of large operating costs and a sub standard arena shouldn't weigh as heavily on the Maloofs. With the tremendous fan support and a young up and coming team to go along with the momentum of getting an arena built I don't think the Maloofs move the team next year. It would be another black eye to the NBA after what could potentially be a damaging lockout. I'm not sure the city of Anaheim or Henry Samueli would even be as interested financially in the Kings after a season of no basketball. Hopefully we get this arena built.

I think that if the lockout hurts the Maloofs it won't have an effect on how the NBA views this market. I also have stated that the hurdle that has prevented a new arena is the Maloofs many times. It's funny once the Maloofs bought into being a tenant versus the owner/operator model here in Sac things got rolling!

Does anyone else think that playing overseas would benefit a lot of players on the Kings if there is no season? I keep seeing guys like Deron Williams and Zaza Pachulia signing contracts with Euro teams. Our guys are young enough that I'm not too concerned about injuries or anything. I think Tyreke, DeMarcus and Whiteside could really benefit from the experience.

Just curious... how can a team even BE moved during a lockout? If teams and players aren't even allowed to talk or negotiate, why should a team be allowed to negotiate with another city?

Even the King's YouTube page took down all the videos of the players......

Wiretap says Steph Curry and Dorrel Wright of the Warriors are open to playing overseas. I really hope both Tyreke and DeMarcus consider this option too if the lockout persists because they need to play as much organized, team ball as possible and shouldn't take a year off. It would be cool if they could get a contract with the same team too.

Guys playing overseas is a sideshow. For the Euro clubs it creates a buzz a certain player is coming. For the Association it gives the impression that players can make wages overseas but that's about it. The union can use it as bargaining power but in reality the threat of the NBA losing key players (en mass) to an overseas club isn't a big one. When the NBA Lockout is over FIBA will require all these players to go back their NBA teams.

If you KNOW a guy is coming over for a six month rental as a coach you're not going to implement said player for a long period.

How do you create a buzz if you leave the player on the bench? That doesn't make any sense.

I don't think the overseas option is a sideshow. Obviously, if there is an end to the lockout before serious time is lost then it we can look back and say it was. But, if the lockout lasts into the season than there is no doubt players (especially younger ones who haven't yet made millions and millions in the NBA) will sign short term contracts over seas. According to Cowbell Kingdom even Donte Greene has offers in Italy and Israel.

My point was Tyreke and DeMarcus could really benefit from playing organized ball overseas if the lockout lasts well into the season. This is opposed to them working out on their own or playing random exhibition games. It would even be nice if the reached out to each other and tried to sign contracts on the same Euro team.

I missed this but a few days ago Sam Amick tweeted this:

"The agent for the Kings' DeMarcus Cousins, John Greig, says he is in negotiations with multiple European teams."

If the lockout lasts well into the season I think playing in Europe is a good option for DeMarcus. It will help him develop as a person and as a player compared to running street ball games all over the place.
