I'm thinking I don't like it, wasn't excited about him in the first place and 5 million a year is a bit too much.

Yeah, I really like him as a player but 4 years?

I would imagine there's a team option in there somewhere. Then again, which shocked you more, this signing or John Salmons as a plan B when Bonzi's agent screwed the pooch?

Not a sexy pick up by any means. Sometimes its the small moves that can help form a team. Time will tell if this was one of those moves.

Just remember the Vlade pick up. There were no parades held when he was signed, but he was another one of those solid vet pickups that made a major difference in the end.

OH YEA BABY THE CHUCK WAGON!
I've been waiting for this one fellas. this cat is gonna be a fan favorite off the bat, you mark my words there.
Absolutely love this deal to bits, even if the contract length is too much... I would much rather spend 5 mil of Chuck then 10-15mil on those other overpaid bigs we have in the market.
Ya'll are gonna hop in on the chuckwagon soon enough, don't you worry.. only real downside is the shotblocking but we still got Whiteside and we'll manage down the road as he matures.
This dude does not need the ball which is awesome - but when he gets it he's no dally either, a willing capable and good passer, intelligent player both sides of the court, super hard worker hustle player, fantastic rebounder, ELITE man defender, and on top of it all he's a proven vet who will do a world of good controlling and directing our at times stupid younsgers, not afraid to smack them around and show 'em the light giving that presence we've missed so much in the lockerroom.. this is a must-have-on-your-roster type of player.. an upgraded and advanced Brockness monster with vet presence if you will, who won't cry about coming off the bench or doing all the dirty work that no one notices.
Considering we're looking at the future here, and hoping to contend in the next few years this is a fantastic value-for-money imo, not only because other then shotblocking he fits us like a glove with his skillset, but cause he brings all the Intangibles, some our roster need like a breath of fresh air.
Wait for the Rockets fan to come here all upset at how they lost him and understand what I mean. Just to show you a glimps of what he can do btw

Chucks returning home to Nor Cal?! Yes!! All aboard the chuck wagon; It might be a bit undersized, but it's still a good, strong, steady wagon. Let's go!
I hope Hassan still gets minutes, so we can see how he develops this season. I was hoping he'd be a legit back-up player. Besides... He can shot block and he's not 6'6". But I guess Hayes has the better overall defense so we'll see.

Nice call.
I remember being upset, along with a lot of other fans from the ESPN boards, when Ike Austin turned us down...and we "settled" for Divac.

If indeed sammy or another big isn't signed, I think this is a big vote of confidence in Hassan.

Ehh, Vlade was later seen as an elite center (when the position died out, but still). I don't think it's fair to compare that to this.

Love the signing...finally have a "Bobby Jackson Scott Polard" kind of guy who does all the dirty work and just focus' on defense and hustle plays. Nice energy guy who loves to work hard and get the job done. We already have more than enough guys who can put the ball in the hoop. All we need now is a 3pt shooter for the bench and another vet PG and we're in good shape

I actually wouldn't mind this deal. All things considered I would still rather have Dally/Chandler/Gasol, but Petrie must not have liked what he was hearing from their agents. This certainly hits the bank a lot less, leaving some more options going forward into future offseasons.
Despite his size, pretty good man-to-man defender on bigs. He can be a roleplayer who will understand what he needs to do in terms of defense, crashing the glass, setting screens, and won't take touches away from our more talented offensive players. He is by all accounts a good guy in the locker room. Finally, as a player who wasn't super-gifted and had to work hard every day to get where he is, he can show a good veteran example to our young bigs
I would think of him as a rich mans version of the Brockman / Jackson sort of guy we have had in recent years. In a year or two when this team hopefully turns the corner into a playoff team, he could be a pretty valuable guy to have coming off the bench.

I know that Hayes is a good one on one defender, but are there any bigs he can't really defend? Could he defend Howard, for example?

I guess I should post something...
Fair value for a player of his caliber. Worst case scenario is he plays here all four years and is a very productive blue chip player. Can't be too mad at that.

I don't understand the Dally thing, we got a guy with the similar skill set waiting in the wings. Did people competently forget about Whiteside ? Are people really that obsessed with measurements that they cant see past the fact that this guy was a very good big man for the Rockets last year.
Getting a guy with Hayes one vs one abilities in the front court for 5 million a year is a pretty good deal.

Well with the trade between L.A. , N.O. & HOUS being voided I would not be suprised if Houston now offers Hayes a better deal . We shall see .

Does this offer mean that Dalambert is out the door for sure?
Now I've never really seen the guy play or anything, but I'm not really sold on a "center" who's the same size and only 20 pounds heavier than our starting POINT GUARD...
