Is Salmons playing like this to force us to amnesty him?

Post#1 » by boogie-reke » Thu Jan 26, 2012 2:58 pm

I honestly think this question must be asked.

He can't be THAT bad. he is iirc the worst in PER in the league, or darn close to it - I mean what the flying fk is this guy doing out there? it's sure as hell not basketball.

He is just so awful in so many ways in everything he does, that I have to think about this option and wonder - is he really just doing this to get his money and walk?

Thank you Paul Westphal, for leaving us this final goodbye present and insisting we need a guy like him - we really need that type of vet presence and consistency John brings to the team and locker room.. he really does lead by example.

Pretty sure it was petrie's final decision to trade for him. Every bad move or thing the Kings do is always blamed on Westphal i don't understand.

Not that I believe it, but I wouldn't be so sure that Salmons isn't playing like this so he will be amnestied.

I still don't understand why everyone thinks the guy is getting amnestied. Face it, we are not signing two max players next offseason, so why do it? It is not going to help us sign anyone new. We are still going to pay the man anyway!

I don't care what his reasoning is. I just want him amnestied at the end of the year.

Oh, if Salmons continues to play like this he most certainly will be an amnesty candidate if for nothing more than to just get him out of the way. Somebody will pick him up for sure, thereby saving the Kings some money in the long run.

Also think about this, the Kings can only use the amnesty on a contract they had on the roster before the CBA was finished. The only two fairly big contracts that would qualify are Cisco and Salmons, cutting anyone else doesn't make sense. What the heck, might as well use it on John because if not for him then who else.

I would rather trade him for pennies if another team would take him. Saves us money

But why would they? The only way another team even considers it is if the deal coming back is worse and the player is even less productive. That was the gamble all along. As I mentioned before, even if John worked he would have been hard to move because for him to work he'd have to have taken a back seat in his own production and he would still lose value to most teams anyway because of that lessened role.

If John can get out of this funk and start to show he is the same player from last couple of years, we MIGHT be able to get a team to bite.... but yea the more realistic option will be to amnesty Salmons

True, but that's my point, I don't want to see that John Salmons! That John Salmons is the same John Salmons we all knew can't and won't ever help this team in the long run and will just get in the way of Evans, Cousins, etc. You could kill two months of potential improvement from your core to showcase him but the likely return is just not worth it. The only way for this to be salvaged is for John to look at some tape of Doug Christie, take a few deep breaths, and accept it.

That, or you can try the idea of bringing him off the bench and using him as a primary ball handler in the 2nd unit. The one game where he looked half decent they used him that way. They had John bring the ball up for a few plays and he looked comfortable because that's what he's comfortable doing. However, that John Salmons gets no more than 20 mpg IMO.

^ Very true... But at the same time THAT John Salmons might get a trade done. Highly unlikely, but the only way we rid ourselves of that horrible draft day trade without the Maloof's coughing up the dough.

Salmons looked like this last year. Petrie and Co. took a gamble that it was because of injury. Unfortunately its because he's over the hill. Stick a fork in him, he's finished.

Other than some good plays from Salmons i.e. a couple of good defensive possessions here and there, a couple of buckets here and there, he looks absolutely horrid.

Every time he gets the ball, he is the most selfish player out there. He is looking for his shot and not to pass. He has been terrible from 3PT, especially from WIDE open 3s! The Kings brought him to do two simple things: 1) defend 2) hit open shots/3s. He's failing miserably in doing those things.

I was one of the few people here thought that he can provide something positive to the team! But that hasn't happened yet!

Amnesty Salmons and start looking for a SF in the off season. The Kings SHOULD push hard for Batum. We should outbid majority of the teams with the cap space we have. It's Batum or bust! I don't see anyone out there (with the exception of draft), that can come close to Batum's level.
