I know he was discussed quite a bit on this forum but he's been out of sight and therefore out of mind.

I'm talking Wilson Chandler. I believe his contractual obligation with Chinese team is up in March. He's a young guy that fills one of our biggest needs at SF. He's a restricted free agent (rights owned by Denver) but with how well the Nuggets and Gallinari are playing I think if we throw a good chunk of money (5 years $50 million) his way we can sneak in and sign him and they wouldn't match. I'd also like to obtain Andre Miller to address true PG so maybe some sort of sign and trade package?

I know Chandler can defend, but is he a good shooter?

Pass? You're opinion wasn't asked. This is a Kings forum not a Nuggets or trade forum. No where did I state that Hickson and Honeycutt were better than Chandler and Miller. The Kings can offer Chandler a lot of money and with Denver signing Nene, Gallo & Afflalo with Lawson waiting in wings I don't think they'd match a big offer. Miller is expiring. Basically Kings are offering compensation for players they'd likely lose.

Gallinari at the 4 and Nene at the 5? Wouldn't that give you worse defense in the frontcourt than the times you tried playing Raef LaFrentz and Nicolas Tskitsavili together?

My point is that we don't care about your opinion and we didn't ask for it. This was posted in the Kings forum not in the Nuggets forum or in the trade forum asking Nugget fans what they think. If it had been, your response would be warranted but it wasn't. Go enjoy your teams early season success and give your opinion in a forum that cares.

Well, I'm pretty sure if the Kings want to go after Chandler they'll look to use the remaining space they have. I wouldn't be into that though. I'd rather take a shot at Batum or wait on it. Shouldn't spend any big money with this team yet to still find any sort of identity. Chandler is another guy that did much better as a small ball combo forward than a wing player.

3 is by far our weakest position and Chandler would certainly be an upgrade in every sense of the word. I'd pursue him.

He'll, I have a better idea. Let's go ahead and throw the straight offer at Chandler so that Denver just matches and takes themselves totally out of any FA market for the next five years - including for Lawson. Then we'll pick him up for a reasonable contract when they can't afford the 2/3/4 to 1 tax to sign him.

In his defense: what exactly is the point of discussing your proposed trade if it has no shot whatsoever of happening (as seen by Nugget fan pretty much laughing at it).


I like Chandler. Good defender, solid shooter. If the Kings really wanted him then just wait until the summer. 1 of 2 things will be true by then:
1) He'll have signed on for the rest of the year with the Nuggets (after finishing his stint in China) making him an UFA
2) He'll have sat out the season and still be an RFA

Either way the Kings would have to pay him a lot of money to get his services. Even if we traded for him we'd still have to pay him a lot. My guess is that to get him here you'd probably need to pay him $8-10him a year (and closer to 10). Consider that Thornton got in the $8mil range and Chandler is the better player (some will disagree but Chandler has far fewer holes than Thornton does).

At that price I'd have to consider him depending on what we get in the draft. Right now it's looking like the draft is going to be filling with a bunch of bigs and wing players--almost no PGs whatsoever at the top. If the Kings grab a 4 to play next to Cousins (or a 5 to shift him to PF) then I'd be more willing to shell out that kind of money to a starting caliber wing (which we don't even have no when you combine all 3 of our SFs). However, if we end up grabbing a guy like Garnes or Gilchrist then it's REALLY hard to justify paying Chandler that much money.


Furthermore, a lot of this conversation depends on what you what to do with Evans & Thornton. Evans can arguably play the 1, 2, or 3 (though many think he should be eliminated from consideration as a 1 so we can bring in a more pure PG) but Thornton can't play either the 1 (hell no) or the 3 (way too small). So where does that leave the Kings? It means either:
a) You keep an Evans/Thornton backcourt and you have a need for a 3
b) You move Evans to the 3 and need a PG to start in the backcourt with Thornton
c) You bring Thornton off the bench (expensive bench player he'd be) and find yourself some combination of a 1, 2, & 3 (pick 2).

The ideal option, in my mind, is the following (this is best case scenario):
1) Draft one of the top rated bigs in the draft. This means either Drummond (may not come out), Davis (a wet dream next to Cousins), or Sullinger (would help with leadership and add more rebounding/toughness).
2) Amnesty Salmons
3) Get Chandler & DJ Augustin in free agency

Run with a team of:
Augustin / Thomas
Evans / Jimmer
Chandler / Thornton
(draftee) / Hayes
Cousins / Thompson

I know I said Thornton can't play the 3 before, but that's more about being a starter. Bring him off the bench and run like hell (which I think that bench team could do) and he wouldn't be so bad.

I couldn't agree more. Thornton needs to be in a Dennis Johnson/Ricky Pierce role. Come off the bench and light it up for 25 minutes a game. He's a bad fit as a starter IMO.

Chandler visited Toronto on Tuesday and is talking to six other teams.

Are we one of the 6 teams? I hope so. At least would show we're still willing to spend money.

I believe we offered Kirilenko 3 years $27 million. Chandler is much younger and could be our starting SF at let's say 5 years $45 million. Pacers have no need at SF with Paul George and Danny Granger. So unless Chandler has absolutley no interest in coming here we could essentially offer him more than anyone and not sure Denver would match $9 million per.

Is he worth 5 years $45 million? With our production at SF I say he is.
