Trading our First Round Pick

We all know that this Kings team is pretty young. I know that some people will argue that the Kings do not need any more young players on our team. The arguement is that we need to stick with what we have and supplement it with veteran players.
That said, are there any realistic veteran players that you think the Kings should target with their first round pick next year (assuming we don't make the playoffs and Cleveland gets our pick

)?
Rudy Gay, perhaps?
Danny Granger?
Some mystery play, a la Deron Williams that you think might hit the market?
Thought it was an interesting topic to spur some discussion.

I'm all for it. You can take Rudy Gay off your wish list because that is not happening. I don't really like Danny Granger either. I think D Will is going to opt in this off-season but if he doesn't, obviously we should offer him whatever he wants. Not very likely, though.

Problem is that we're wrapped up in owning Cleveland a pick, and if we trade another pick, we open the whole pandoras box of dealing with that owed pick. Very complicated.

There are conditions on the pick. Before hitting the lets make a deal button I think we should see what pick it actually is.

The condition on that pick this year is that it is lottery protected. Hate to break it to you all, but we aren't making the playoffs.

First it will be tough to get any quality player to come here. Second this is suppose to be a real deep draft & in my opinion the draft is the only way this team can get better. No arena, cheap owners, & a team at the bottom of the league is a tough sell.

But even if we keep the pick, does this cause issues with the fact that we can't trade our 1st in consecutive years?
Let's say we do the trade of our 1st for a top level player. That should launch us into the playoffs, essentially giving the Cavs our pick for 2013, thus resulting in us trading our 1st in back to back years.
I'm not an expert, but from my understanding, our 1st pick is tied up and untradeable until we give the Cavs our pick. I believe a loophole is that we can draft a player with the intent of trading him on draft day. I think this allows us to use our 1st and trade the player instead of the pick.

Well, crap...you're right. Did not think about that. (Trading a pick in consecutive years)
You are correct about waiting until after the draft to make a trade. That is why Jimmer had to go up and shake Stern's hand with a Bucks hat on. It was a three way trade and the Bobcats couldn't trade their pick until after everyone drafted. If I remember correctly, the Pau Gasol for Shareef Abdur Rahim trade (way back) happened the same.
The other way around it is to get Cleveland to agree to delay conveying the pick until 2014 by sweatening the pick somehow, possibly by less protection or by giving them a player. This is how we could do the trade midseason.
The whole topic still is applicable though...now it is just who you trade the pick for on draft day!

I hope the Kings will be very active on the phones after the lottery with our pick (even if it's top 3) in trade discussions. I don't anticipate much change before then.

You guys don't want a shot at Anthony Davis to play alongside Cousins?
Coming from the Celtics' board, one poster suggested Rondo to Sacto for Evans and your unprotected 1st..

Only 2 players the Kings would trade our 1st for in a deal for IMO & those guys are named Dwight & Deron . I think both are doubtful but see Deron as more probable if the Nets dont think they can get D12 at the end of the day.
To the Boston poster . You way over value Rondo . Evans and a bad contract Salmons maybe
Evans & an unprotected 1st I say I agree with Wolfay and say you have been hitting the chronic way to hard .

From the C's perspective it's a gamble- we give up the established player, a first team All-defense, pass-first point, for a player who's been up and down and a pick that could be anywhere from first to tenth in the draft..

True , However Rondo is a good point guard with or without Garnett , Allen , Pierce etc. but he is not a great point guard without them . To trade both Evans and any 1st round pick for any point guard he better be a great point guard . Rondo is not great . I think Ainge knows that without those great veterans on the Celtics Rondo will get exposed thus his value going down . That is why he is willing to trade Rondo .
Once again getting both Evans and a 1st round pick is giving to much and overvaluing Rondo .

I could see something happening on draft night if your management doesn't like any of the players at their draft position.. Rondo obviously has a mediocre jump-shot, but one argument is that as much as KG/Allen/Pierce raised his stock, he could look much better, at this point, playing with an athletic team that can run..

I'm willing to dangle Tyreke if the price is right. But there is no way in hell I packaged an unprotected pick (& Reke) for a guy like Rondo.

Since the Kings can't trade their pick it would HAVE to be a draft day deal. Moreover, there's no way in hell I'd give up a mid to high lottery pick AND Evans for Rondo. One of the 2? Maybe, but no way I give up both.
If the Kings fell down to, say, 6th-10th and were in a position to miss out on the players they needed then I'd give up the pick for Rondo.

Andy582 You need to realize as I am sure you know that just because we currently have the 7th worst record in the leauge doesnt mean we will get the 6th - 10th pick in the draft . Is that likely yes . I remember the year Oden & Durant we the 1st & 2nd picks both Portland & then Seattle we both protected getting very late lottery picks but got the 1st & 2nd picks . The year Milwaukee got Bogut I believe they were projected 9th or 10th pick but got the 1st . Just last season were the clippers traded their 1st round pick to cleavland it ended up being the #1 pick in the overall draft .
So in conclusion strange things have happened in the draft & though we likely would fall into the 6th - 10th range it is just as possible we could move up to the 1st or 2nd pick . There is no reason to offer it up before the actual lottery happens anyways to see what # we get .
Besides we cannot trade the pick this season anyways . It would have to be after the lottery due to us potentially owing Clevland our pick.

I think if Ainge comes calling again about Rondo for Evans, it might be time for Petrie to listen, but for Tyreke AND the Kings draftee!? Hahahaha.
:sorry had to emphasize:
