As much as it looks like he won't fulfill his potential, if he does, we're in such great shape. And if he doesn't or we move him for some other piece, than we're without a real star wing, and it's really hard to win without one of those.
Marcus is a great little scorer, and he's clutch and I love him. But he's never going to be a superstar. He simply doesn't have that kind of potential. I think he's going to mostly be what he is now for the rest of his career.
So I really like this decision. Not extending him doesn't mean he's gone. It means he gets to prove he's worth keeping around for a year. And if he is, then we're still fine. He's still a restricted FA, and so we'll still mostly be in the driver's seat.
I have seen this kind of comment about Marcus from you before and I just don't get it.
It seems like everybody here has an expectation of any guy who gets playing time on the roster to be an all-star.
To me, Marcus is a stronger and somewhat nastier version of JET. The ultimate sixth man who can just light you up in short minutes or play steadily and not hurt you for extended minutes. Better than Bobby Jackson who was a sixth man of the year. These were guys on contenders and championship teams who were among the top three contributors on that team. I could list more, and the fact that he is the ONLY GUY ON THIS TEAM that I don't scream "NO NO NO" when he shoots a jumper besides Isaiah!
As far as Tyreke's extension, let him prove he deserves a big contract by showing that he is trying to improve his game.
