Apparently no extension for Evans

Post#1 » by Wolfay » Sat Jun 9, 2012 7:33 am

Tyreke Evans was the Rookie of the Year in the 2009-10 season. But heading into his fourth season, the Kings are not expected to offer him a contract extension, though he will be eligible for one this offseason.

Eh. This could mean a lot of things, big and small. The Maloofs could be broke, or maybe the team no longer cares for Evans, or perhaps Evans' camp is asking for too much for what he's done. Who knows.

Until I see something concrete from either parties (Evans or Kings), I wouldn't make too much of this. We still have the whole summer left. It's still way too early.

It is from the sacbee (and not Voisin), so I do think it has some merit. Either way, Evans' future with us is one of the bigger questions going forward and is worth talking about.

I still think it's way too early to say no extension for Evans. FA/contract negotiations hasn't started yet.

That said, Evans needs an incredible summer to regain his worth (if he's looking for max).

Dang, I'm watching this vid of Evans from this year (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Gvws5rnfzc) I hope this guy pulls everything together. He is a talent and I hate to see him go.

Tyreke's agent said he didnt want an extension this offseaon because of Tyreke's poor play. They wanted to do contract talks after this season.

One of the more reliable posters on the Sixers board mentioned a possible Tyreke for Evan Turner swap. Now I am sure more would be added to the deal but maybe this could be a reason the Kings aren't going to extend him, not necessarily for Turner but maybe they plan on trading Tyreke.

Maybe Reke for Iguodala? Other than his 3pt shooting, Iggy is our ideal SF. Plus, we trade Reke to the eastern conference.

Ya when it comes to layups and half court shots tyreke is the man! While watching the video I was wondering if it was going to show the jump shot tyreke made this year. His jumpshot is in the video, it's near the end for those who are wondering and want to see it.

The thing is, I'm mostly on the train to trade him, but then I always pull back.

As much as it looks like he won't fulfill his potential, if he does, we're in such great shape. And if he doesn't or we move him for some other piece, than we're without a real star wing, and it's really hard to win without one of those.

Marcus is a great little scorer, and he's clutch and I love him. But he's never going to be a superstar. He simply doesn't have that kind of potential. I think he's going to mostly be what he is now for the rest of his career.

So I really like this decision. Not extending him doesn't mean he's gone. It means he gets to prove he's worth keeping around for a year. And if he is, then we're still fine. He's still a restricted FA, and so we'll still mostly be in the driver's seat.

Looking at it, I think we'll be real foolish to trade him. I was on the Trade Evans Parade to but I think we just need to think this through look at the pros and cons for him and the make up of the team then act. I think we should firstly address that viable SF who can do the things we need on this team.

As it stands now we need a SF who can shoot fluidly, defend and rebound. Tyreke is a layup king! We desperately need those easy points that comes through his layups. As we see through these playoff games, PG/SG that are able to get to the cup causes defensive lapses and opens up so many things for your offense.

Lets get that SF we need then see how Tyreke's game opens up. Then and only then should be the judgement day for him.

I just hope they put him back in the backcourt with Thornton this year and give it a fair shot with the right system in place.

I have seen this kind of comment about Marcus from you before and I just don't get it.

It seems like everybody here has an expectation of any guy who gets playing time on the roster to be an all-star.

To me, Marcus is a stronger and somewhat nastier version of JET. The ultimate sixth man who can just light you up in short minutes or play steadily and not hurt you for extended minutes. Better than Bobby Jackson who was a sixth man of the year. These were guys on contenders and championship teams who were among the top three contributors on that team. I could list more, and the fact that he is the ONLY GUY ON THIS TEAM that I don't scream "NO NO NO" when he shoots a jumper besides Isaiah!

As far as Tyreke's extension, let him prove he deserves a big contract by showing that he is trying to improve his game.

I just said he doesn't have superstar potential. You seem to be saying the same thing in saying he should be a supersub. What exactly is the disagreement?

He doesn't deserve an extension.

He needs to prove that he does - and in anyways he's an RFA so we'll just let the market dictate his price and always have the option to qualify, or sign and trade.

I'd actually be furious if he was offered one.

It doesn't make business sense for the Kings to determine his market value. When you look at it from a nobody knows who this kid will turn out to be view why rush to set his value?

That doesn't mean the Kings want to move on.

Since at least 2000 I believe(could be longer), the only Kings rookies to receive extensions before the season was Kevin Martin and Francisco Garcia. I wouldn't read too much into this story other than the Kings feel Evans has not developed as fast as they would have liked.
